    7:00 That reporter was an idiot. It wasn't a life goal, but it was a huge achievement. Being literally the first person ever to reach the "kill screen" of a video-game that had been out for close to 40 years, is huge. I don't even like Tetris and I was excited for this kids achievement.

    • @X1M43

      @@maurer3d But the hours of practice required to have the skill that made him capable of achieving the feat have to seriously be up there. Not that I'm dissing him or want to minimise his achievement, I think he's awesome, hope he tuned out idiots like that and goes on to achieve the fastest humanly possible time in OG Mario or sth. (iirc they're only like two dozen frames off said time? That community is insane, in a good way)
      And to add on to what you said about it only taking 39 minutes--what is nowadays considered a 'casual' speedrun time for Mario is *five minutes* . As of right now, there's 395 people who've achieved that time, not counting anyone who went a single frame over 5 minutes flat, because yes, it's *that* precise. (notsomuch talking to you as anyone who doesn't know much about speedrunning or challenges like what the guy did with Tetris)

    • @titmusspaultpaul5
      @titmusspaultpaul5 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yeah, she had opinions based on pretty much nothing aside from others saying it (but the context was very different). You can have MANY goals in life from big to very small, and to crush a child's achievement and happiness is wrong. She needs to grow a brain.... and a heart. Good on that kid for a great achievement. It also reminds me of when I was young, scating every day for hours after school at the scate Park (back in the early to mid 80's). I loved scating.... it was my world. It was very hard, exiting and a fantastic way to get fit. I got to a decent level, but wasn't great. If I was then I would have pursued it further as a couple of my friends did. Point being that many adults said it was a waste of time, even with all the obvious benefits. Imagine if someone like Tony Hawk listened to people like those parents, or this stupid reporter (not my parents though). He wouldn't have had an amazing career or made many millions of dollars. He was passionate and saw an end goal and possibly what was to come.... and he just did it. The lesson I would give that kid is to follow your passions and if you are good, try to work in the area you love but most importantly are good at.

With BB videos, you are just as important for the entertainment factor as the other two. Also, as much as I love the meme names at the end (which you should definitely keep doing) it means you aren't actually giving yourself credit, so it would be great if you did so at the beginning along with the others. I remember being at an after work happy hour party, and my raid was about to start. I went to settle my tab and excuse myself then noticed most of the other coworkers were too then realized we’re all in the same raid group and emptied the bar.
    I spent a large amount of time raising my coworkers child at birth because we would play WoW overnight to keep watch over his newborn son. His wife could sleep thru the night and she worked during the day. We worked nights at a restaurant so it worked out well for us. One night, I had to tell the rest of the group to find another dps and I’d switch to heals, so my coworker could tend to his son.

    I used to be very addicted to WOW, it got to the point that my partner who was pregnant and moaning about a tummy ache got ignored while i was leveling. A brand-new expansion had launched and me and friends were marathon running it to the new level cap. (We had planned for weeks to do it had it all planned out with spreadsheets the lot!) Not long after hitting max level my partners tummy ache got worse and i took her to hospital. Turned out she had Eclampsia and her organs were shutting down. Son was born over 9 weeks prem. (he is fine btw as is my partner) I don't think i have ever been exhausted as much in my life at the time my son was born i had been awake for well over 2 days without a single wink of sleep. I quit the game almost immediately after this and not been back since. It was my wakeup call to my addiction that had lasted well over a decade. Game addiction is no joke, i lost a job because i wanted to "raid" also a few years prior to quitting.

    My PS2 experiences with cheaters: Socom (shooter game), heard my team on voice chat saying that the enemy wasn't dying after getting hit by entire clips. I stayed hidden and sneaked to the bomb site the enemy had to go to. My entire team was killed, and i saw the enemies at the bomb site, threw 1 grenade and killed the entire enemy team, apparently their cheats worked on bullets but not grenades. On HOA (Hardware Online Arenas) the Germans hacked the PS2 disc security and made a new disc with cheats included. They had doubble health and armor, and picking up ammo gave them unlimited instead of just 2, and their missiles locked on instantly instead of after 3 sec. Those Germans sticked to their German lobbies, but 2 of them often came in our lobbies. But because they always played with cheats, they were bad at the game, so we used to upload vids of how we messed with them

    When I worked as the Lead Computer Tech at a major computer supplier in Alexandria VA, circa 1991, we often "tested" people's computers by playing video games on them. Anyways, we also would use a software called *PC Tools.* When we would finish playing a video game, all the way to the GAME OVER point, we would write down what the final score was. Using PC Tools, we would then look through the Data Segment, and find the binary equivalent of the final score that we racked-up. Once the position in memory was found, we would rewrite FF FF (hexadecimal) into the memory position, and then reset the IP (instruction pointer) to some Code Segment address that was near the beginning of the code (so as to avoid the initialize-the-score-to-zero code statements.) BAM! The game would restart, with an incredible HIGH SCORE already on the screen!

    Tetris lore is cool. The game itself does not have lore but the players who play it, they make the lore for the game. For example, most professional players play by placing blocks on the left side and leave a one block whole or called well on the right side. However, in a sort of recent Tetris national championship qualification, one player was seen to use the left side as the well which brought it back to use in professional Tetris. With Tetris being an almost complete game i.e. most of the information for the game is known, it is interesting to just watch people make strategies to win. The only truly random part of Tetris is the block order and even that is not completely random.

    I had a friend named Burt M. that played Street Fighter 1 so much that he was able to beat the game blind folded, or even backwards. Backwards being, he faced away from the arcade machine and crossed his arms behind his back, and played that way. He was so good at the game that we used to hustle other kids in the arcade for money, tickets, or even just for fun. He'd not only defeat them all soundly in verses matches, but then we would bet them he could beat the game facing backwards, they would of course say it was impossible and then after the bets were placed he'd do it and we'd buy ourselves hotdogs or get ourselves prizes from the ticket counter with the tickets we won. I remember his strategy for beating the boxer was to get a single strike in at the start of the match and then just block until time ran out. Other than that, I can't describe his strategy because I wasn't very good at the game, even though I enjoyed playing it well enough, I never had much time to play it since he was the one playing to defeat people or win bets that he could do it blind folded.

    FUN FACT: Arcade cabinets also used to have either ambidextrous button layouts or have the joysticks located on the right - after arcade machines started becoming big business and companies started trying to find ways of milking more money out of people, they changed the location to the left (as obviously most people are right-handed) having the most important parts of controlling the games i.e. player movement, be trickier to control. It's a change that has stuck to this day - though not as bad now with dual analogue sticks, where most people favour their right hand for the fine control of the camera over their left hands. Plus many games, and steam allowing you to adjust the layout to swap the sticks. But to most people, now, if you told them to control the character's main movement with their right hands they'd think you were crazy 😅

    World of Warcraft is slowly changing how end-game content can be done. You do not have to join a guild to do end-game content because you can use "raid finder" and "dungeon finder" depending on where you live it may or may not work very well but it's an option. However, I'm also one of those who never gets to end-game content because you have to play with large groups (either in a guild or using raid finder/dungeon finder) and my anxiety will NOT suffer the toxicity of the bullies in the chat of the game when doing a raid or dungeon. However, WoW is working on single players being able to do end game content by themselves. We'll see.
