YES, somebody actually making an in depth close up to the psychological and philosophical context of all Persona games lore without forgetting the tips and information present in older ones! Can't say how much I loved this.
well Personas and Shadows ARE the same thing and at the same time opposites... just like two sides of the same coin. If the persona is the part of yourself that you show to the world, or what you pretend to be, the shadow is still the part that you don't show to anybody and pretend NOT to be. In the end the two are manipulations or distortions of your own ego, they are what you want to be and what you don't, respectively, even if it is in an uncounsious level.
A Shadow is a complex in the form of a self-perceived weakness (or negativity associated). A Persona is what it becomes after turning into a positive or strength. Thank you. Love the video 0/
You're welcome. Actually I should thank YOU. See, the story I'm writing is going to be a full on Persona story, and even though it's an MLP fanfiction, I'm trying to take it as seriously as ATLUS take Persona. This video answered a vital question I needed answered, which is going to help me make the characters. Also, I love your accent. It's really cute. *smiles*
I absolutely loved this video!! (and it's so refreshing to see a girl talk about the persona series, sometimes I feel we're a rarity SDJFHDSKJFHKSD); People have pointed this out already and I really hope this isn't taken as mean, but I also found that sometimes the combination of your accent and very fast talking made it a bit hard for me to understand. I think subtitles would be great, not only for that, but for people who are deaf/hard of hearing to be able to enjoy your videos too!
Neni, this is so rad! It's wonderful to see your thoughts in such an organized form. Not that you don't convey yourself well through writing on tumblr, but your analysis backlog is long and the questions you are asked happen in such a random order. It's really, really great to see you making a series about your knowledge of persona/jung in easy to understand, bite-sized clips. I am excite. Just to throw in my thoughts, with everyone else, re: the sound. Personally, I found your accent heavy, but completely clear. There was *one* time I had to listen again. Context: I am an east coast American who speaks and constantly hears Standard American English. And for what it's worth, I find your accent pleasant. Accents that are clear but heavy add a new ring to English that I wouldn't hear otherwise. I do think you talked just a smidgen too fast, though. You are packing a lot of highly interesting, dense information into such a short video -- some of it completely unknown to your audience. Giving just a little more time for the information to sink into their heads (and mine!) by slowing your voice a bit would be immensely beneficial. Yeah, that about wraps it. Rad. Best of luck and I will be watching. Also, did I just make a comment longer than 200 words on youtube? What even --is-- 2015? This has been a *weird* year for me.
You know why I like Persona? It makes me feel like I'm a main character just by being introspective 😁. Being able to say I stand for something, acknowledge something, or accept something as it it hits different.😁
Shadows are like the subconscious part of ourselves, that affects us and our humor without, our "conscious self" acknowledges it. Or are part of yourself that you and all hide from others, "our inner thoughts, ideas and fears", like that episode of "Family guy" when Peter acknowledges by acident that Quagmire loves Lois. While Persona, where the term personality comes from, is what we decide to show to others, about ourselves. The Persona power is being self-aware of your inner thoughts and fears, or basically be true to yourself and others, instead of being false to yourself and others. This how I perceive the persona vs shadow thing of the game. Or can see the shadow as a raw and unfiltered emotion and persona power a controlled form of that raw emotion.
from 6.26 until end i start to cry... 😢 persona 4 is my first playstation game, and it touch me deep... and now i played all series... thanks godness i played persona 4 in first place... 😭
This was very interesting, I feel like a learned a bunch! Your accent is a bit strong sometimes, but it's still perfectly understandable with a little focus, even for people like me who have English as third language. If you're worried about it, making subtitles/CC on TH-cam isn't too hard. Definitely looking forward to seeing/hearing more of your stuff!
I also have to say, thank you for the explanation of how all of the entries ties in together thematically! I think I am starting to get how (at least) 3 and 4 ties in together besides being within the same timeline. I'm currently finishing up 3 Portable, and I'd like to try out 1, 2, and 5. I've subscribed your channel, and I'll be watching your other entries. I've also realised for the first time that one of the ways in summing up the Persona series is how the kids realise their unconcious psychological aspects in life, and how that relates to the collective unconcious in Jung's psychology.
I'm so glad my video made things easier to understand! I agree that the series is oft quite a bit obtuse about it's lore, especially ever since Persona 3. But well, that's what I'm here for!
+mark Ervine (Lizard knight) don't worry, I will be adding subtitles from now on. This episode was mostly a Pilot to test out what works and what doesn't.
+bobosmith101 Yikes, is it still that hard to understand? I had to do a dozen recordings to get it the way it's now... Alright, I might add optional subtitles, I just feel kinda awkward about it to be honest. ^^;
Nenilein Nah, it's not THAT hard to understand. A few places I had to relisten, but generally, I got pretty much everything just fine. Your accent is strong, but it doesn't interfere that much, just a little.
Knowing and acknowledging your shadow is not bad. After acquiring a persona and maxing out the social link, the persona can evolve into a new persona. Also personas can evolve more than once as seen in Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal, and Persona x Detective Naoto. This makes sense since personas reflect parts of their user, and people can change.
This is great! I always enjoy your persona analysys and translations. There is a lot of the series that non-japanese speakers miss out so I can't wait for your next episode. Regarding your accent I can understand it, but I think subtitles are not a bad idea or maybe just write it in the description.
this is really well done! i also like that you didn't forget the persona 1& 2 exist haha especially since their method of using personas is different, what with everyone being able to use multiple personas
Even if P1 and P2's use of the lore differs, it's still very much reconcilable with the newer games, if you know enough background information and think about it for a bit, so leaving them out would be disingenuous! There's no logical reason not to include them.
I hope they don't have their own version of "Tetsuya Nomura" and go for looks over substence. At least persona franchise is rising, while FF is declining and Pokémon is slowly trying to revamp itself.
I would say shadow sound more like the "raw self", your primal instincts and emotion get loose when there is no ethic, moral, standards or boundaries (the ego) that presure it im a more focus maner, letting you use it as a representation of what you are to the world and other (Persona). In the case of P3, a Persona appear in a situation against death, when surviving instincts kick in, so they Persona may be more basic to row shadow power, that would explain why their abits are like overdramatic interpretation of the arcanas (like bad actor): the fool is a wild car presenting all traits and none, that is why the "I don't care" options, Jumpei being the funny man but almost never serious, Yukary as the popular girl love by everyone but to do so change her posture accordingly with what suit her best, Mitzuru being the overly compose and strict mother, etc. They learn that there is more complexity to their roles in the theater that is reality. In P4 is more recognize what you hide to others, but specially yourself, you cant control an animal without knowing it is even there, moreso ignoring it will only cause a pain in the ass sooner or later, this acceptance is to bring balance to your personality and psyc. Their persona are more focus oriented, like heros going to kill the BBEG In P5, is a little backwards on itself, basically you create this mask to live in society, that is the public image of every character, now the Persona is use as a second mask but this time is like an overly dramatic interpretation of their shadow, especially stereotypes and symbols, basically letting their emotion a lot loose for short period of time and meanwhile use an alter ego so to no affect their public image. Like when you get tipsy but not drunk enough and begin to do world shit, only that displaying as someone else because you aren't this shit biting you in the ass later. So this are more sinful and decadent, like your dark edglord face.
Nice video! Good trivia for people who want to know more. But the mic could need some work. The Bs and Ps have that weird...paff after sound. Other than that, maybe make the music a bit lower than the voice. Keep up the good work!
+TheObsidianNoir I dont really have the money to get a better microphone, because they don't sell good stuff anywhere close to me, so I'd have to order one and well... I'm broke. As for the volume of the music, I already turned it as low as I could without it just sounding like slight background noise. ^^; I can try to balance it better next time, but I still need practise I guess.
+Nenilein Here's a hint: Aim the microphone slightly away from your face. the sound there is caused by the air from the P and B going right into the mic.
Do you think that Personas are like a superego? When unawakened they are an ideal the user strives for. When awakened they are the ideal selves of the user.
Jung studied under Freud for a while and the two of them used to be friends until they started fighting over Freud's theories on how psychosexuality works, so a lot of Jung's concepts are directly or indirectly based on Freud's. The superego IS very similar to Jung's concept of the "Persona", but Jung made some alterations to the concept in the details; basically, the Persona is a lot less unequivocally positive than the Superego. The Persona, if shaped in a certain way, can cause people to act in ways that are disadvantageous to their lives and mental health. The Super Ego, meanwhile, is always an ideal.
hey at least Akihiko didn't have Zeus or atlus as a ultimate persona but Zeus would fit in the story with Zeus making Gemini twins castor and polydeuces into... Gemini constellation (side note for the longest time I thought Gemini was Romulus and Remus haha)
As a writer, I actually use most Persona awakening methods. The only one I ignore is the "Be blessed with the Powers" method, thus MC only has her base Persona(whom awakens from her accepting her near death in a demon attack and her being saved by a slightly less rookie Persona User who got her's with the P5 Will of Rebellion method) and her Ultimate Persona awakens when she overcomes her Shadow after she loses said Persona after being Mind Raped(not literal Rape, she got hit with a heavy dose of psychological trauma). In exchange, there are only three Persona Users in the plot(excluding cameos from Naoya, Maya, Tatsuya, Ren and Futaba in the ending) and the other three main characters are an alchemist/Witch, a Cognition like Mona, except this one fights like a normal Shadow does and an artificial demon(like the Devil Summoner games' Zoma).
Ohhh the "Persona 1-5" was the games...I thought it was part 1 of a 5 part thing oh god my brain is not working. Haha. XD Well that makes a lot more sense. XD Anyways great job, again, on the video! 8D Keep up the great work!
Wow, this video was great! I love checking up on your tumblr analysis but don't have a tumblr - having too many SNS accounts stress me out - so I'm happy to say how much I appreciate them, finally. This video is all of that but better, I think, because sound and pictures! Hee hee. Re: subs/captions, those will likely be a lot of work to get the timing down, so why not post a transcript in the description? I believe there's a way for users to edit the captions themselves, so if there's a transcript, some kind person could do it themselves. I'd love to read it myself. I have minor hearing loss in the usual speaking range and have to focus to pick up on all the sounds, so sometimes I miss the point being made if it's new or complicated, like in this case. And I want to know everything! :D
I have read through your analysis of these things more often then i can count, but i am still going to watch this because i can see the effort you put into it. On the topic of accent: The only thing that might be problematic is your "th"-pronounciation. Seems like it is not the way native english speakers want it to be.
Khanh Nguyen Personas are made of pure information and energy, just like Shadows. It takes enormous mental focus and power for them to materialize in the physical world. It's not impossible, just very difficult, and usually happens in adrenaline-filled moments, where the user is full of immediate energy.
No offense, but somebody should really make some subtitles for this video. Your accent can be a little hard to understand. I assume it's German, from your name. ...I think this might be in part thanks to your microphone...
Basically Persona (the controller) are when you acknowledge the Shadow (trait regarding to: accepting mortality, acknowledging faults, or embracing rebellion) with the Ego (you yourself) which brings balance to the system of how you operate your power (Persona) and how you are powered (Shadow) which is all in the hands of the Ego (your conscious self). Hope that makes sense

Wow that was really well done and interesting
Stands but less confusing
How tf is it less confusing
Well what about the plot
No, because stands are fighting essences in a nutshell, you can have a persona but not a stand and vice versa
@@dragonborne089 it's still a punching ghost
@@keyman245 yeah, but you can get 2 punching ghosts at the same time for free

A suggestion, though: Since your accent is heavy, maybe some sort of subtitle or a review section?

Can someone explain to me why can't any of them summon a persona outside of say Midnight Hour?

Yeah, this was the first video I ever did, years ago, so the quality is still so-so.
