    Another reason why Barbarian Invasion is a really good campaign expansion is because...
    Moustaches.
    Everyone (in rtw:bi) wants to show off their fierce 'staches to other people

    I'm aware that the logo in the thumbnail isn't from RTW barbarian invasion, but I couldn't find a large enough picture at the correct resolution of the legit burgundii logo :)
    Also, yeah I did get my east and west a bit confused in this episode lol sorry

      The Burgundii even have similar colors: burgundy and white. It corresponds with Polish White and Red. Historically Polish have used slightly diferent colors instead of red - vermillion and Crismon, which in turn symbolised the wealth and glory of the magnates (upper part of nobility) who actually identified themselves as Sarmatians.

      In the campaign it's probably more/ more upkeep/ more expensive buildings

    • @snowisthebestweather
      @snowisthebestweather 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I did some looking around. The upkeep is 144 vs 134, so that's not significant, but the Golden Band do require a huge city level barracks while the Chosen Axemen only need the large city level barracks, and Golden Band take 2 turns to train while the axemen only take one.

    • @Speederzzz

      @@snowisthebestweather that seems like a huge investment difference

    It seems like your best move would just be to abandon your starting position and go horde mode. That way you can sack the Saxons and some of the cities held by the Western Roman Empire before making your way to Rome. After all, that will quickly solve your income issue as well as give you basically five stacks worth of troops to play with.
    It also means you can sell of all of the stuff in your starting village making it basically worthless to anyone that actually captures it.

    Biggest difference between Chosen Axemen and Golden Band is the source of their defense, in armor and defense skill respectively. Armor can be ignored via the armor piercing trait many units have whereas defense can't be bypassed. Which means that against anything with any amount of armor piercing the Golden Band actually vastly outperform the Chosen Axemen and is part of the reason why they're significantly more expensive.

    15:35 The barbarian noble cavalry, and any similar good stats low charge staying power cav, do actually serve a pretty important role in killing enemy cavalry and denying your opponent the potential of their shock cav. Additionally their stats are good enough to kill an enemy general unit if they can catch them out and have some support.

    • @bigkingkat4537
      @bigkingkat4537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This. Barb Noble Cav is so useful, they are a must have for any army once you can recruit them. They have the speed and mobility of cavalry (not fast moving, but fast enough), plus staying power because of their very high stats. Cavalry is already OP in this game, and these guys take it to a whole new level.

      @@lugotorix6173 isn't your unit roster designed to counter WRE? It is hard to deal with ERE with these units. (No horse archers, no good spearmen, no units with good cav bonus.)
      Not to mention you can expand two ways. Both are very open to invasion.

  • @ukaszzawadka2678

    Thank you for your Overview of this cool faction. I want to play them, because I have read "The legend of Sigurd and Gudrun" by J. R. R. Tolkien, and personally I'm very fond of Migration Period as a historic epoch. It's a great theme - the end of the World and sometimes I think of the deep changes we have today and try to compare it with old WRE and the case of a dying civilisation. Smoehow new peoples emerge an become dominant and they carry their stories and their cultural heroes like Sigurd and Gudrun and life starts a new era. Life finds it's way.

    Chosen archers arent actually a straight upgrade over lombards. They have better melee stats and armor but missile attack is weaker and dont have long range. More expensive too. Id say lombards are better overall but they can come in useful in archer duels or as light infantry when they run outta ammo

  • @snowisthebestweather
    @snowisthebestweather 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't know how they are in BI, but War Dogs are really nice in the base game, mainly because they're an excellent source of free kills as long as you keep the handlers safe. The dogs regenerate 100% at the start of the next battle, so you can send in the dogs and then have the handlers leave the battlefield.
    You can have them go after an important unit like a general's bodyguard, and then have all of your archers shoot at him. It doesn't matter if you kill the dogs because they'll be back for the next fight.
    They're also really handy when you're attacking a settlement. Sic the dogs on a routing enemy that was guarding the walls/gates, and they'll follow that unit all the way back to the plaza and then start attacking the enemies there.

    • @bigkingkat4537

      Both Vanilla and BI War Dogs are fantastic anti-cavalry units. They're shockingly effective at dealing with light cavalry trash and even General's Bodyguards

    I thank you for all these detailed videos about this great game I own and play often. But, what about the Lombards? I recall you saying that their unit roaster is almost if not the exact same as the Burgundii and Alemanni's roaster, and maybe you told that's the reason you didn't make a guide about them, but your strategical guide for them would be very appreciated 😊

  • @dimitriefthymiou974

    I love the series but maybe if you could also say the strengths and weaknesses of each army. For example the Burgundii have good shock troops that cause a lot of fear and rout units quickly but are lightly armored and lack heavy infantry.
    Keep it up

      @@lugotorix6173 while I think that the celts are supposed to represent the natives of Britain as a whole while the Romano brits are just rebels who are so far away from hrome(see what I did) that the have used the native tactics so do you think you can cover the Romano Brits since they are a more elaborate rebel faction since you could code them in as well as the Roman rebels as you can just give them a starter army from the code.

    How to use berserkes:
    Step 1 - Spam lots of berserkers
    Step 2 - Chose the army you want out of your way and attack it
    Step 3 - March your berserkers in front of the enemy army
    Step 4 - Activate berserk
    Step 5 - Wait for the enemy army to rout/die
