I think the problem is the way people now interpret "submission." It's taken very sexually, as well as a slavery and without rights. Historically women have been in that position so the word can be frightening, as well as historically people have weaponized the word to perpetuate abuse. But biblical submission I think is not worldly submission and Christ's submission was in free-will, not intimidation or fear. I think a relationship needs to be safe enough for a woman to be able to choose submission, and clearly Ruth felt safe with Boaz and Naomi to choose it.
