What makes a bebe a bebe, please? Do they have to be marked as such, or do they just have to be French child dolls? I have a blog and I'm trying to find out the answer to this for my viewrs.
Historically, in France the name for any doll has been poupee. But about 1876 that changed when the classic lady-bodied doll was being replaced in public favor by the newly-popular child-bodied doll. There then began the use of two distinctive terms: one being "poupee" for the adult lady doll, and the other being "bebe" for the child doll. And, to answer your question specifically, no, they are not marked bebe. --Florence
I really love to buy the big dolls with chubby cheeks so cute!
