Just bought a black 97 850r wagon project for $1800 pretty excited to start working on it (I'm 13 so I'll have lots of time to make it my dream car)

That’s awesome! You’re already way ahead of most of us. That’s gonna be the best first car once you dial it in. By the time you have you’re license you probably will have your dream car. It’s really cool to see younger people like yourself that are into these cars. I’m stoked for you!

Speedo is most likely abs module. No abs or tracs light? Least on s/c/vxc 70 abs module super common. I have an 98 s70 t5 manual with pretty much every upgrade imaginable. Havent made much for videos but can see a 2nd to 3rd gear pull when was 18psi runs 23psi with more timing now. But i did rn swap with a b5234t9 with 60k. Has ttv 11lbs flywheel with sachs 707pp from audi rs2 with stock r disc. 3" catless turbo back, snabb rip kit, inlet, 3.25" maf, snow perf wmi kit, kinugawa td04hl-22t billet 6+6 with 9 blade but waiting on my td06sl2-20g kit. Has 1bar wastegate acutator, ipd hd cbv, ipd hd tcv, all poly mounts, viva front n rear brace, bc racing coilovers, aem x series wideband oil temp and boost gauge in lotek pillar pods, msd coil, ported intake, dw fuel pump dw800 injectors, vas tuned ecu. Made around 350wheel and almost 400ft lbs. These cars are great sleepers new gti evo type r all sleep on u til they get walked.

That’s exactly what I was thinking it was. No abs or tracs light on the dash but it could still be bad. I’m pretty sure it’s super common on the 850s too. That sounds like one hell of a s70! Love that is has a manual transmission, that’s quite rare to see in one. I bet it’s a blast to drive and probably pulls very hard. You weren’t joking when you said every upgrade imaginable, that’s awesome. It’s so true, nobody ever expects the old Volvo to be fast until they get walked. I appreciate the comment! Sorry for the late reply

Welcome to the family You got a great deal...good video. You were fortunate to fine one with a good dash. I would take a rip seat any day than a dash falling a part. I have a 96 850R saloon and Heico wagon.

Thank you! I completely agree, I’ve seen ones with those squeaky curled up dashboard’s so I’m very glad mines in good condition. The rip in the seat should be an easy fix. That’s a great fleet you have! I’m glad other 850R owners are finding and enjoying our videos. We got a lot more 850R content coming!

Loved your 850R post .i am curious to know if you purchased your R in Sacramento for if so it would be the same R that i looked at last year(had a missing headliner). I almost went for it but held back for not really sure reasons . But had i made the purchase i would not been able to purchase a 1995 850R sedan and a 1999 V70 R wagon....the sedan in butter yellow and the wagon in Lazer Blue i was only looking to purchase the wagon not knowing the owner had a 95R sedan my heart sank thinking surely it would not be for sale to my surprise it was and now my focus is on the wagon which i just got back from the repair shop. I purchased the wagon knowing that the timing belt had broke so the repair was costly but worth it and considering i only paid $800 for the R wagon i am still ahead of the ballgame. The 850 R sedan also needing work mostly needing a new transmission. Would love a recommendation for a shop that can do this at a fair price. Again love your car and look forward to your new post. Jim from Cameron Park CA

Thank you Jim! It sure is the one you looked at in Sacramento, the seller did say a few others came to check it out. Definitely ended up working out for you, those are some beautiful Volvos. Both with arguably some of the most desirable colors. That must have been a very exciting day for you taking home both of those legends. $800 for that wagon is more then a steal especially in today’s market. Out of curiosity how much did you end up getting your sedan for? In terms of your transmission I’m not 100% sure of a good shop for that job but I usually take my Volvos to Swedish Auto Service in Novato CA but that’s quite a ways away from Cameron park. I also hear Swedish Volvo Care in Campbell is a good shop that could probably do the job for a fair price. I’ve actually been looking to find a shop that can hopefully do a manual swap on my 850R at some point down the line. I’ll let you know if I do end up finding a good shop for the job. We’ll definitely be having a lot more content with it coming out soon. I really appreciate the comment!

Hello again. Great to see that the younger generation has found the passion for these rare cars...i had a young man in his early 20's buy the set of six rims that came with the car i believe they came of a C70 i had no intent on using them so i sold them to him he has a sweet 98 V70....non R but impressive what he has done so far...i have encouraged him to go R because no matter how much $ you put into it you will not have a R and value wise the 95 to 97 R's will only go up. As for my purchase price i paid $900 bucks....but keeping in mind i need a new transmission and that every fix and part can be very expensive to say the least $5200 bill on the Wagon hopefully find a better shop i waiting 7 months to get it back and i im just starting to work on some of the other stuff that needing fixing. In the end still a amazing car and hopefully trouble free yet the years are against me ...like your sagging headliner are not meant to last forever. Goodluck in your Volvo journey. Jim

@@jimlemus2046 I think Volvos have really started to catch on among my generation. I know quite a few other people my age that also have the passion for these gems. That’s very true that no matter how much you put into a non R it will never live up to what a true R is. Especially the heritage behind them too. Even with the bad transmission that’s definitely still a fair price. Some shops really overcharge like the one you took your wagon too, I’ve had some bad experiences with shops like that in the past. I’m sure it’ll be trouble free in the future, once they’re running reliable they tend to stay that way for a long time. Thank you, good luck to you as well. I hope your Volvos treat you well for years to come. Zev
