If u think u can crack the next time, drop one year. But don't sit idle at home. Either u can take upa job or develop skills along with preparing for gate. Sitting idle is lose lose situation. Good luck
depends on your prep if you think that you can make it this time than u can take a drop and it will not be conceded as -ve point during placement if u make it to top 1000 at least but u don't make it to top 1000 than u will be in big trouble you then want to take one more drop but taking more than 1 drop for a exam is definitely not that great because gate is not that difficult exam than during placement they may ask you question regarding drop.

You want him to give up and leave the dream as it is. Problem is there in private also. They make you work like slave. Let people decide what they want to.
demotivating nahi reality bata raha hai there r different types of people giving gate if you are already in top 10 percentile than chances of u cracking increases otherwise i dont think u should prep for gate and one more thing is the discipline and guidance factor if u get good guidance than your chances increases to 95 percentile and if you are discipline than you can be considered among top 97 percentile than the only factor is constructive learning which means whatever you learn should add value to gate prep and it should not be lose after some time i.e. do revision and stick to one plan. At last I would suggest that u should prep for gate if u r in college to test yourself and there is nothing to lose there because prep will improve you percentage in btech but if u didnt prep and not getting atleast 15k to 10k rank than u should not take drop but if you are getting it than u can think about it but i still dont think that u should drop if you get a job. last thing to say is taking drop is the best thing u r doing in your life if you have that potential because if you crack it there is ocean in front of you and even u dont than not a big deal atleast you try and learn from it.
I got air 3000 in 2019 and took drop and got air 973 , I was under so much pressure and was unable to perform upto mark, my test series marks were good but in the end all hard work is destroyed
