Is the Azub Max 700 the best recumbent bike?

    Another great video Tim. I have an Azub Max 26, which looks very similar to your Azub Max 700. It really is an inspired machine, which attracts plenty of attention. The level of comfort is superb, and a bit of mild offloading is no problem at all. I suspect that rival manufacturers might be getting nervous!

    Tim, great review as usual. Not so much related to this bike but I would love to see you do a video on the pros and cons of FWD vs RWD recumbents. Long drive chain vs short, maintaining, learning curve, etc. I know you’ve reviewed both and I see arguments on both sides. I’ve had both, would love to see a non-biased comparison. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    I have Max 26 and i have found it have few weakneses like you need to be quite trained to take some steeper hills because when speed drop to 7kmh its really hard to keep balance and if you put on some road narrow tyre ballance get even harder. 10% climbs are hard but i manage few times 12%, so its not really climbing bike but on nice flat road it fly...

    Hi Bent Revolution - thanks for sharing. Are you aware of any place in Northern California where a dealer might have floor models to try? I love what Azub is doing here, trying to push the boundaries of 'bent design and also incorporate some more modern components (Fox DPS shock, carbon gravel fork). But - this definitely seems like a bike you need to throw your leg over before shelling out $5,000 to see if it can be made to fit. Anyway, lmk if you've heard of anyone offering test rides on this in my region.

    Max 700 stock azub fork fits how wide a tire? Can you switch fork to whiskey 9+? Can one swap wheels in max 700 to smaller ones? How small? Finally, are there other handlebar options? I prefer a wide handlebar for more control and places to fit phones etc

      With disc brakes you can switch to smaller wheels no problem. But you should watch out for the rear derailleur. Usually at 20" it's already really low.

      came here to ask the same thing! Full suspension recumbents are my favorite type, though they quickly get to 40lb builds and the weight can make it hard to keep up on long climbs. This the first recumbent I've seen employ a carbon leaf fork and I'm curious how much that plus carbon wheels can save you vs my HP Velo bikes.

    No way at 5’9” I could get on that bike. As you witnessed when you serviced my HP Velotechnik Gekko, I have a difficult time getting into its seat, so no way I could get onto this Azub.

    The rear rack seems high, any experience putting load back there?

      The rear rack slides inside the rear frame and is very sturdy. Even large bags don't impact the handling.

    Is this road or gravel oriented? It's a bit gimmicky but looks interesting. Probably can't afford anyway.

      This look like pure road version, Sauki frome Velomobil channel test his Max in terein and made video about it.

    Still the unergonomical hand and arms position remain. Feet position good, not high up in the air but as low as possible.

    I have a tea fly X the screw me up. I had have T flat X screw me up. I hope they got screwed their ass. but my T Life is very good.

    The handlebar is less than 4 inches from his belly. His head and teeth aren't much farther. Most recumbents are safe but not that bike. You couldn't wear enough protective gear to make that bike safe. His elbows are completely folded giving no leverage at all for power. Very very poor poor safely.

      I've seen videos of people setting this bike up with "tweener" / Bacchetta style open cockpit bars. That's probably what I would do.

      Chefs tuck their arms in for more leverage and control over their knifes, you rarely see them chicken winging or standing far away reaching for the cutting board.

      I have ridden a max for many years, that bike was too small for him and he said as much. The boom and handlebars are adjustable as is the seat angle. He was in a much more upright position than I ride too. Not sure what you feel is unsafe. After learning how to handle low speeds and clipping in you will ride using mirrors. Caution is necessary at times because you are sitting back , so looking to cross streets is harder than on a diamond frame.
