For the curious, this was filmed in 2012. At least the B-roll was. At 2:13 the City AM headline reads "Watchdog in Last-Ditch Bid to Save Libor", which corresponds to a September 27, 2012 article: www.cityam.com/watchdog-last-ditch-bid-save-libor/
Funny how in the beginning he bemoans the incredible hassle of getting through all the traffic and such to get to work, so there's gadgets to help. And here in 2020 we realize the answer is to just work from home.
In Vancouver you can catch a "Sea bus" which is simply a large passenger boat that's as cheap as the normal bus but takes you across huge amounts of water skipping traffic
i was in japan when the epson eyewear came out... they came out with a version 2 which looked much better... but they were super expensive and i never saw anyone wear them in the 8 years i lived there. One thing i loved from epson from around that time was an e-ink watch... they had many of them for different anime, Disney, Starwars etc... the battery lasts a long time and it just refreshes every minute - you can choose different backgrounds... it was something different at the time and before proper smart watches... sadly they are discontinued but i was surprised that epson in japan made a variety of tech - not just printers and projectors
They don't show that amphicab getting out of the water. Getting in they roll in to the water and start the propeller. To get out you have to engage the rear wheels and drive up a wet slimy ramp. TH-cam is full out "boat fail" videos where someone backs their boat trailer in with the pickup truck, then the truck just keeps sliding until it's under water.
Always amazed that people think electric vehicles are pollution free. Where do they think the electricity comes from? The creation of electricity is rarely pollution free.
I feel like this show is such a great match for Mr Fry too. Even on QI you could see how excited he would get around the odd little doodad theyd have on every now and then. You just get the feeling he'd be doing all this stuff whether he was doing this show or not 😊
3:40 OKAY SO NOW I NEED YOU TO FALL OVER! I know Stephen. That's why it's a stupid gadget. If you were to follow me cycling around from now on, you'll spend the rest of your days documenting what a stupid gadget this is. You need me to deliberately fall over, to put an end to the stupidity.
It's a great gadget because it offers better protection than a regular helmet (stops your head from turning and protects your neck). And even the manufacturer of regular helmets say you shouldnt use their product beyond one fall because they cant guarentee the safety of the helmet anymore. It's also a one time product. Of course people dont know or care about this but its the truth. "Cant be arsed" is not a valid argument.
SF: "You go and have lunch and I am off to drive a cab into the water."
JR: "Has it come to that?"
LOL
I love Stephen Fry could watch him all day long
"If it goes wrong, I shall be mildly moist, to say the least" LOL

Or you could just read the description lol
Callum Jeffcock Ba ha ha ha! Why do it the _easy_ way though?
Mr. Ross's thorough testing of that umbrella was quite amusing, seems it wasn't up to snuff.

Theses are brilliant Fry needs to collaborate with Adam savage and make a show like this
Why?.. It's still a show that is going on to this day, just with Richard Ayoade instead of Stephen. Most people prefer Richard anyway.
Love the Raiders music tribute in the early segment.
04:33 - he for sure fell right after they cut.
and unfortunately the helmet/airbag didn't deploy..
@@nathanrowland1918 RIP, he will be missed.
"Mmmm, tasty"
As he's clearly disgusted lol. Everyone knows he only drinks out of copper kettles and the finest china.
Stephen Fry really is a beautiful man isn't he.
That Yike Bike looks Fcukin’ lethal! 😆
A pure delight
Four coms of daily life:
.com
compete
compute and worst of all commute 👏🏽
I feel like this is a major underrated show. How does jack paul get millions of subscribers and viewers and this great content gets so few viewers.
He needs to shave
“It’s the Renoo twhizy.”
10:55 - It’s Peter Griffin! 😆
I admit, I laughed at "...beavering away in the shed".
"Hövding" is Swedish brand and the name is a wordplay of the word "hövding", meaning chieftain. "Hövd" is derived from "huvud" meaning "head".
Yess. Give us MoREEEE
I wonder if that in-car espresso machine will froth milk as well... I do so enjoy a good foamy cappuccino when commuting.
Isn't this man from V for Vendetta?
Deitrich

22:44 the Icon A5 has that covered.
The goatee is on fleek
I love how we went from large brick shaped phones to ipads large than a hand. Sure ipads are thinner but the point is to go smaller I would imagine.
You look healthy. I'm glad you got through.

Colinfurze should be the one that gets to make the Taxi boat.
What happened to Richard?

strutter gear had personal bubble... oh that was a show

We need to find a wamp
They did a better underwater car in rackaracka
i always thought they were the same person
I thought you were supposed to make something new. amphibious vehicles are already a thing.
is modern tuk tuk
richard might have gadget man copyrighted by now ;)

Electricity comes from the sun and sea, it can be pollution free if you use the right source.
@@TimTams_64 'If' being the operative word. Most electricity does NOT come from sun or sea.
@@johnforensicman6179 yes it does.
Regardless of the source it's still a significantly smaller amount of pollution
@@NotCallum With renewable energy there is no pollution.
he lost some weight
this is from 2012
Its just not good without richard...
A gadget man that doesn’t have a smart watch
Well to be fair this is from 2012
Only steven Fry can succeed Richard Ayoade. Also the only person who can complain about the noise of someone's headphones
