Hi! Can you make a template of your home for people to copy?
@@KayGross-c1r I'm not making templates for Xtiles because im not in the capacity to keep up with it. However, my home dashboard was built with their default templates so it should be easy to replicate!
5 days trying it. Excited since it looked like an all in 1 solution. They keep comparing it to Notion, however, I was able to try both. Notion indeed has a learning curve, but it's a lot more straightforward. Most of the reviews I've seen from XTiles however, increased both my curiosity and my attempts to use it.
Xtiles becomes even more confusing and harder to navigate in case you got some content AROUND the way xTiles works, not your intuition or your knowledge --- unless you've probably spent a month or so giving it a go, realizing that all tutorials are biased and not the way they work (no wonder every tutorial or review I've seen is sponsored and 90% of them, try to give Notion a cheap blow.
Out of he box, it does feel great, it gives you the feeling that now you will be able to work with what you need and find your own content where you need it.
The more you try to find your way into the maze, the more time you waste and your productivity becomes so much worse. Before you know it, you have a mess in what they call "Spaces", then, the mess translates to even more tabs than you would even use in a browser (which is one of the points they try to stress... No wonder, they need you to try hard or you feel simply, stupid... "How come the videos say it's so simple, and I haven't been able to take advantage of this feature? I've watched tutorials that go from 20 minutes to more than an hour... Still, it becomes more confusing than your own file explorer in Windows when you have more than 10 levels on each folder. In Xtiles, not only do you surpass those 10 levels, but you do it horizontally, so, your clutter becomes a lot worse.
The templates are made to look nice - Unless you try to use one, and there are not many to start with.
I hate that Notion's templates have become this micro-transaction place where 80% of creators have half-backed templates ranging from $5 to more than $50 usd each.
Xtiles is heading on that direction: Fast. And even worse, you need a template for: Cards, then you need another one for Pages, then another one for Collections, and another one yet, for your so-called workspace, and considering that's how you're intended to work, making one fit into the other, becomes a nightmare.
It makes you feel like you've become organized... Guess what? You've just become the guy who spends 90% in organizing something for which he needs less than 10% working or being productive.
To sum most of this lengthy text up:
Workspaces... This place where you need to create Pages, where you will need to create Collections, where you will need Cards, and on each, they give you less than 20 options to choose from, an none working together, you need to choose what you will use carefully, otherwise, you're not even able to copy-pase your content.
You have "duplicate" "copy to" or "move to" but each, just to one of those levels, and you would need to work with your content on any other platform to even copy your content manually.
If you are using xTiles, give yourself some time, maybe a month or so of constanty trying to adjust your workflow so it fits... Then, make up your own mind (unless you're using it like a pinterest-like bunch of images you want to drag and drop around and that's the only functionality you need - then, you will feel like xTiles is just your thing.... Until you also wonder, where does all your content go? Where is it stored? Because the more you use it, the longer it takes to load, so, it's not even a lightweight piece of software/platform, but instead every time you add content, well, it takes longer and longer to load, and to move from one card-collection-page-space (not to mention the tabs) it becomes slower and slower.
Overall, a marketing strategy with so many sponsored videos and few places to actually address these issues. And no wonder! All your reviews become scattered in tons of videos with sponsored reviews. ages, seem to do whatever they want and make it hard to navigate. You then move to Collections. It gets worse. You try the options to turn something into something, like a heading and a toggle list, well, you can't create a heading that is a toggle list, you need to choose between one or the other. You want to make fonts bigger or smaller, guess what? You can't. You try the copy paste feature between collections, or try to make them fit into pages, nope, you can't. When you get to the card, collection, page or space, the clipboard is gone. You need to copy something from one page to another, you have no way of even doing it manually... Unless, you get everything you want into either Notion, a google doc, or a text file, and THEN, getting your content into one of their options.
If this text is long and confusing... Well, multiply this confusion by two, and 4 times... And that's pretty much what you get with Xtiles...
I guess to at least provide a little service to the community, I'll need to copy paste this text to maybe 30 sponsored videos, and hoping that someone - who will not become a hater to this comment, which you will see, I'll have more negative comments by people who are sponsored, or who have just scratched the surface of xTiles and still feel like they're being productive.
And you know what? It will be worth it, because at least I will know I've done something that, if it helps someone, I will have been more productive than keep trying to work the way xTiles slowly tricks you to go down the rabbithole.
Great video - I managed to set everything up in a day by watching sponsored videos! Brilliant tool.
xTiles seems like what I've been looking fo, it looks very beginner friendly. I love something that I can aesthetically change with my mood.
That is great! Enjoy testing it out and setting it up 🩷
I've been using xTiles a bit and like it. I would love a step-by-step tutorial on how to make it pretty and how to use the functionality. Would you consider doing a video like that? I love your delivery style! As a fellow ADHDer, you made it easy to follow!
Aaah thank you!!!
Unfortunately I don’t have the capacity to make xtiles tutorial videos. Those take a lot of time to make and even though I love the tool I’m also not expert enough to explain it to other people (yet). I might make this in the future but I also want to be honest about the fact I don’t expect to make it short term 💜
This is the video that convinced me to give xTiles a try. Thanks for the in-depth review
I would definitely love to see an update video of how you and your partner use xTiles together, any difficulties yall ran into and resolutions you found, as well as hidden gems yall found that really help you out. Any additional collaborative use cases yall have added to your xTiles workspace, etc.
So i personally stopped using xtiles for this use case. I still love the tool but I just went back to my Notion and my partner went back to pen and paper. This is mostly because he does not enjoy digital note taking and for me personally Notion works better. Xtiles still holds a lot of power and honestly is a great fit for a lot of people who find notion too complex but still want that extra bit of spice to their note taking. But since we stopped using it I unfortunately cannot give you an answer to this question 😅
@@ExtraTxt Ah okay. Thank you for the update!
I was eagerly waiting for a new video from you. Your Notion Tour helped me a lot. I don't earn so I couldn't buy your template. I made it myself completely based on your system and it's working brilliantly for me. I wanted to thank you and would like to request that you make an updated video on how Notion is working out for you as you have moved all in just this year. Lots of love ❤
Aaah thank you I appreciate that a lot!! I absolutely plan on making a follow up video. Probably in July as then half a year has passed and I can give some good updates on my goals, my systems and things that have changed! Thank you so much for your kind words 🩷
This was super helpful. I've been struggling for months with Notion, (old old visual brain) and I had just watched your 2024 Notion. You do a fabulous job of being authentic, which is what I always looks for vs a sales pitch. Will keep you posted! I'm excited to try.
Aaah thank you that is a huge compliment as I always really try to keep my content genuine even when it’s sponsored! 🩷 Super curious to hear your thoughts on xTiles! 😊
An excellent intro to an interesting piece of software.
I’ve signed up for the free version but am already considering upgrading.
Thank you for your experience! Btw, love your plant-wrapped mic. 🌿
Thank you! 🥰
Great job Ro, top video when I search for xtiles! Looking forward to trying it out.
wait no way!! I love that 😍
used the link in the vid to get started bc this sounds like it'd be super helpful for my household. thanks for sharing queen ❤
Thank you so much for using my link 🥹🩷 I’d love to hear your thoughts on it later!! 🥰
Oh my gosh, thanks! I was looking for a good review on x tiles and also you're dutch too!
Fellow Dutchie lets go!! 👏🏻
just from first glance it seems nearly identical to milanote but with a better balance between creativity and text/organization
Oh I’ve never tried Milanote so I can’t compare it but it’s nice to hear this feels better balance (:
Excellent video. Had me look at Xtiles again. I have my systems in Filemaker Pro and I've been wanting to convert them to Notion where I've spent most of my time. Notion confuses me compared to FMP. My FMP system is pretty flawless.
Xtiles has some cool aspects, but I don't know it well enough. It's fun to play with. I would think your first step would be to duplicate your Notion 2024 and see how far it takes you. I'm guessing there'd be some quick areas that would cause blocks, but who knows? Not me.
I don't plan on moving my Notion set-up to xTiles. Like I mention in this video I've been using it to collaborate with my partner mostly but I don't want to move my entire set-up to xTiles considering Notion has YEARS of content in it for me that I don't want to move or loose. I do think this tool could be amazing for people who feel like Notion is too complicated or overwhelming because it offers perfect middle ground between complex tools and more simpler tools. But it sounds like you also already have a pretty solid system that works for you 😊
@@ExtraTxt Good point, for your use case it's so perfect. I played around with it some more. I can't really tell how capable it might be next to Notion. It's got some nice features for sure. If that sharing idea is scalable it would be interesting. Didn't quite understand that?
@@DrJohnPollard what exactly do you mean with that sharing idea? You mean the fact that I share it with my partner or something else?
@@ExtraTxt Yes, your partner.
@@DrJohnPollard I share it with my partner but I still don't understand what exactly you're asking. What do you mean with scalable? What is the part you don't understand?
X-Tiles works just great for beginners. Thank you for sharing 🤩Also I've been working around the tables, rows and columns...can't seem to delete an extra last column; keeps wanting to add another column. How could I delete the extra columns? 😆
I could just click and delete them 😅 would not know how to fix that to be honest haha
@@ExtraTxt ooh hihi okay. Thanks!
how do you put in the little icons in each tab title? The plane, money bag, etc
Hi, I’m sorry this video was made quite a while ago so I’m not sure what you’re referring to 😅 Could you link to the timestamp in the video where you saw this and then I’ll try and explain how I set that up!
@@ExtraTxt it's all throughout, but you can look at 19:35 for reference. You have tabs at the top, Chores Calendar, Bucket List 2024, Recipes, etc
They all have their own little icon, how'd you add that?
@@tiffjoy128 Ah those! I just add an emoji within the title ;) So just type '✈travel' as a tab title!
I really like your video, you are simple, clear and nice!
I'm an ADHD brain and I'm struggling finding the right app to record and organise my knowledge.
Note taking, tutorials extract, random info about different areas of my life like personal improvement, music, etc.
I'm trying Notion but I feel really overwhelmed because of too many options 😢
Do you think Xtiles would be good for notes manager and knowledge management?
Thanks!
Hi! Thanks!! Glad you like my video 💜 I would say that Xtiles is great for notes and knowledge management yes!! The only reason I would advice using notion over Xtiles for that is if you would like to organize your knowledge in a database structure. But if you just want an intuitive digital notebook Xtiles is great!
@@ExtraTxt thanks for your answer!
I know, Notion is amazing with database but as you probably know learning curve is a big enemy of ADHD brains! 😭
Thanks for your advise!
Every few months, new apps pop up that do something better than existing apps. But I always wonder how long these new start-ups survive ...
All the information that accumulates over a long time, with the risk that the tool will suddenly no longer exist.
Very true! I feel like whenever you want to pick a new app it's always good to keep this in mind. You can either decide to be an early user of a tool with the risk of the tool not making it or you can wait until a tool has built some solid momentum. If you want to be an early user I would always recomend to not immediately move your entire system over but try to use two things at the same time. This allows you to figure out how to move your things once you decide to fully move over and it also gives you that buffer period of trying out a new tool. But of course the risk never fully goes away!
Awesome vid. Gave me ideas/inspo applicable to my workflow. Made sure to use your affiliate, cheers.
Ah thank you!! That is very appreciated!! 😊
Trip to Eftling! I went there as a kid. I loved that place. Do the bins still talk?
They do!! It's such a fun place I love going there 🩷
Thank you so much for this video. I noticed that my free version does not have the option to categorize "select" menu options, the way that you do with your recipes. Do you know of that is a feature in premium or plus? or am I just missing it? Thank you!!
Hiii! I do have a premium subscription but for specific features I’m not entirely sure to be honest 😅 I think the xtiles website itself might have some more insights in that!!
Which is better for adhd? Tick tick or xtiles?
As someone who’s never used tick tick I’m afraid I cannot make this recommendation. However if I compare it to todoist (which is also just a to do list app) I’d say it depends on what you’re trying to do. If you’re just looking for a away to track your to do’s then sometimes keeping it simple and just going for a to do list app makes it easier for ADHD brains to get started. However if you are looking for something that also allows you to write notes, make calendars etc you’d be looking at something like xtiles or notion! :)
@@ExtraTxt tx very much
My ADHD brain wants something like this, but at the same time, I am already too overwhelmed, even before using it 😂
This is a mood honestly 😂 I feel like Xtiles is honestly pretty doable!! Notion however, is a whole other story 😅😅
@@ExtraTxt what are your thoughts on something like Tick Tick, just for a todo list? I think XTiles can be an additional thing, but I might get distracted if the app doesn't have todos and task management as first class objects.
@@hbhavsi I think Tick Tick, or todoist or any to do list app is fantastic if thats all you want to do. If you just want to manage your to do's. But as soon as you want to also manage your study planner, your recipes and more information you quite quickly end up in the realm of productivity tools like Xtiles and Notion. For me personally it doesn't make sense to use a to do list app on top of my productivity app because then I find myself switching between the two all the time which is time consuming. However, there is plenty of people who make it work for their situation to work in two apps. In the end it all comes down to personal preference because all apps are pretty great and have solid unique selling points. I'd recommend trying out a few different things and seeing which one feels the most natural and easy to maintain for you!
ADHD is like "wow a new thing, I wanna try!!" but if you don't have a specific goal in mind for it, it's super easy to get overwhelmed and kinda burnt out. I realized I can't even watch content on productivity bc it causes anxiety spikes... unless I have something in mind! I've had IBS flare ups recently and need a place to store recipes, have a meal plan, and a symptoms tracker, and I move around too much those days to use a notebook, so tools like Xtiles are perfect. As long as I'm at peace with the fact that I may get passionate about this brand new amazing system and abandon it 3 weeks later once the novelty effect has worn off, it's all good!
@@sapiwette This is SO real!!! 😂 ADHD can be such a pain in that way. But I love the insight of having a goal and purpose in mind!
Hi! Are you still using xTiles? Can you give us an update if you still find it useful in your day-to-day? What other use cases have you developed? I've been using it for a week and I sense this tool is a keeper. Thanks!
Hi!
I’m no longer using xTiles. Not because it was not a great tool but because the usecase was not relevant anymore. My partner prefers pen and paper and ended up switching back to offline solutions. Since the rest of my life management is in Notion I did not see a point in keeping double admin. However I still believe xTiles is a great tool and definitely has a solid place amongst productivity tools!! 😊
@@ExtraTxt Thanks for your response! Great channel BTW
could you maybe share the book tracker template in the info box or comments? i cant seem to find it
I don't know how to share the template link outside of Xtiles to be honest but if you click on the + icon to add a page and you select "add creative page" the book tracker should be right there!
What's that clicking in the background?
I'm not sure which cliking sound you are referring to. There is some music in playing in the background could that be it?
@@ExtraTxt 12:49 seems like it might be the music. I was using ear buds, and started to hear clicking.
@@DrJohnPollard Think it's the music indeed! :)
How could I adjust the image size?
You use the adjusters on the image borders!
@@ExtraTxt Yeah, I used, but the image was cut or hidden a little.
how can I get this template ?
I don’t sell/offer my specific templates but the default templates shown in this video are just available within Xtiles! (:
I loved ، thanks❤
Happy to hear that! 🩷
Mossie Station
What?
I just wish is a app not website😢
That is fair, I would love that too! Maybe once enough people use it they will make a desktop app! 😊
What accent is that? 🤔
I’m from the netherlands although I don’t have a specific dutch-english accent haha. But it does give away that i’m not a native speaker 🤭
Bullet Journals aren't meant to be pretty. It's a methodology, not an art project.
Something doesn’t have to be an art project to still look pretty. And something being pretty does not take away from the function or the methodology. It’s like saying buildings are not meant to look pretty cause they need to be functional. These things are not mutually exclusive
