    Ali calls his opponent, Joe Frazier, "ugly".
    The boy is related to Joe Frazier.
    Then
    "This boy is pretty. This boy ain't ugly". Muhammad purposefully called him pretty (like he calls himself) so no students (even the kids who are fans of Ali) can possibly make fun of the boy's looks.
    Ali called Joe ugly and did not want the kid to feel bad and be ridiculed by classmates.
    That is just one reason why he is "The Greatest."

      You gotta be crazy if you think kids in school wouldn't make fun of Frazier's nephew after Ali calls his uncle ugly. You don't know kids.
      That is why Muhammad purposefully said the boy is good looking. He was being nice and didn't want the kid to feel bad and did not want other kids to make fun of him about Ali saying his uncle is ugly. Or do you think Ali likes little boys? LOL. You are being crazy and foolish about this.
      Why do you think he said the kid is pretty?
      I will tell you why; because Ali called Joe ugly and did not want the kid to feel bad and be ridiculed by classmates. He purposefully called him pretty in front of all the students.

    Muhammad admired Joe. His comments on Joe Frazier were NEVER meant to be hurtful in any way. The audience reacted the way it did because some KNEW that Frazier's nephew was in the audience. Frazier's nephew also obviously knew Ali was not being serious. He's all smiles and laughing.

      Sorry but this has to be a joke; Ali set out to hurt Frazier as much as he could. If he didn't wish to be hurtful he could have stopped once he realised how much his words hurt the man but he kept going and it got worse with time. In the lead up to their fight his insults were disgraceful. I am an Ali fan but I don't feel I have to defend everything he did.

      Muhammed ali did this to everybody, Sonny Liston, Foreman any oppenent he faced. In an interview between Dick cavett and Howard Cosell where they talk about each other in 1971 (after Ali Frazier 1) Ali said he had nothing against Joe Frazier. Obviously, Frazier talked back, he named him Cassius Clay wich Ali didn't like and in return he called him an uncle Tom. Now its easy to make Frazier angry, and thats Ali's plan, to hurt his focus. But i don't think Ali ment to heart his feelings, but rather, as i said, to hurt his focus, to get frustrated. Anyone who would've gotten such trash talk would want to kill that person, 1st round ofcourse, that's where Ali's intelligence Comes to play, let Frazier get frustrated, angry and going for that KO. That's how Ali won all his UD'S against Frazier. If you get what i mean, its all mentally and i've said this before, Ali whas always 1 step ahead of the game mentally. Frazier whas a very sensitive man, and Ali played him on that.

    • @jasona9
      @jasona9 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Young Marvis Frazier had to go to school and defend his father against students calling his father, "Uncle Tom", because that's what Ali called him. Ali ALWAYS went too far! Even after Joe Frazier knocked him down and beat him decisively Ali wouldn't shut-up. You can't re-write history....

    @francisapple 8 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    Think about how the entirety of the school probably picked on this poor kid pretty incessantly, I might add. Ali, was indeed, the people's champ. And this was definitely so with respect to black america, the divide was so stark, that if you supported Joe Frazier you were looked upon as the "uncle tom." Ali's constant attacks on Joe's looks probably made this kid the bud of jokes...but, when Ali said "he's pretty-- he ain't ugly" it probably made the kid feel like a million bucks, and uplifted his whole spirit. Ali, though, mean spirited at times to Joe.. was so kind for saying that.

    • @nycinstyle
      @nycinstyle 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That is why Ali said it. He had just called Joe Frazier ugly on that stage in front of the kids as he often did back then to unravel Joe, make his opponent mad (Joe was a grown man making millions just like Ali), so the first thing he says about the boy is - that boy is pretty. Muhammad was a class act. All the kids in the school knew that Muhammad called him pretty (just like Ali called himself), no way for the school kids now to be able to insult the boy about his looks because he is a Frazier nephew, anymore, ever. Ali was a class act - and a sweetheart, on top of being a killer in the boxing ring.

    Ali had sportsmanship plus humane quality,he loved everybody, he was boxings master salesman, he succeed and he is the founder of it, today the world is deprived for there is no Mohammed Ali like around, if it was what a fun it would have been! Love you sir, rest in peace, God bless your near and dear one.

    I got to see Ali at an appearance in the late 90s. He still at that age and condition had the gleam and charisma. Long story but he even did the Ali shuffle on stage and I couldn't believe I was seeing it. I'll never forget it.

    I love all this old footage. I said it 40 years ago and I still say it today, there has never been a heavyweight champ like Ali and likely never will be. His presence was just extraordinary. He is so revered and loved the world over. This man did so much more than being a boxer... He helped heal the world. Sadly we're going backwards again now with the US military complex seeking wars every where and anywhere. We miss you Champ. You are the GOAT.
