The songs were made for the show, so they didn't have to pay any licensing fees to play published material. You'll have a job finding out who done them. Good luck!
I can add a bit more. The songs and music used in Brookside were made in-house, and the writer of the theme tune, Steve Wright, composed and performed most of the songs. Channel 4 and Mersey TV could not, initially, afford to pay the Performing Right Society the licences to use real recorded music in Brookside, which meant that all you ever heard for 17 years was the same generic "musak" played on radios and in the bar, etc, over and over again. Eventually, in 1999, Phil Redmond made a deal with PRS, and suddenly, every radio was playing real songs, and the bar played proper club music. It made a huge difference because I found the in-house music really awful and sometimes inappropriate for a scene, leaving you wondering why they even bothered with it at all.
Not quite - these episodes were made in 1996, whereas Sunset Beach started the following year. It's a thinly disguised nod to Australian soap, Home and Away, in which the actor playing Greg - Richard Norton - had been in for a year in the early 1990s.
Seriously, was that Vernon Kay as the stage star taking Katie out? if so, he doesnt want us to know Ive tried googling him and it doesnt come up he was ever in Brookside. 😅Pretty sure its him though
The actors name is Richard Norton, and he is an Australian actor who'd already appeared as a regular in two Aussie soaps, Neighbours, and, Home & Away, both of which which were extremely popular at the time these episodes were broadcast in the UK, as they were, at that time, shown on BBC1 and ITV. The many references to "Greg" being in a serial called "Sunset Bay" are thinly disguised digs at Home & Away, where his character surfed a LOT !

The amount of ads now is ridiculous!!😡
Gary looks like he’s in his early twenties while Lindsey could easily pass for early forties. They never did look matched🫤

Rosie was going to let Lee take the blame, knowing his record
Jimmy mentions a fictional soap called 'Sunset Bay' which is surely based on the American soap 'Sunset Beach. '
