    It was a very sad day when we lost a brilliant music composer when John Lennon was shot and killed in either 1980 or 1981 I came home from school when my brother pulled me aside and told me that John Lennon was shot that day both me and my brother became emotionally numb for a very long time

    Nothing to be ashamed of guys, coming from Liverpool and not having heard much of the Beatles/John Lennon's music, what matters is that moment your heart opens to their greatness. The Beatles & their friend Donovan attempted more than anyone else to open our hearts to LOVE. We'd be in a better position if more of my generation had listened more deeply to their lyrics. The moment we take the courage to join Lennon's 'Imagine' the better for our lives.

    It's to his credit that he survived the madness that was Beatlemania.
    And then he had go on to die that senseless death.
    Reality is goddamn absurd.

    John Lennon, had such a unique voice, that there are hardly any imitators that can imitate his voice effectively. There are imitators that look like him, but the voice is not easy.

Yoko is also responsible for investing the pitence of income John (finally) received after suing Apple for breach of contract, making him very wealthy. And in the art world she has been revered for her fine art; as well as (her music) being a major influence for aspiring new wave and punk singers/musicians during the late 70s and 80s (Debra Harry and Tina Weymouth credit Yoko's influence on their writing AND singing). Yoko possesses a generous and compassionate heart; and her philanthropy work has made a major impact on the issues...the people, and (their) countries affected by war, hunger, environmental changes, domestic abuse, and children's education. Finally...it is Yoko Ono who is responsible for stoking the fires of John's legacy for longtime fans, while enchanting younger generations with his immense and beautiful talent. Any questions?

John didn't do his own songs. It was all about that band. I saw them at Madison Square Garden so because it is so big you would think the screaming would dissipate before it got to my ears but nope. It's nice to see Yoko Ono besides John Lennon in such a loving way opening curtains and Lennon stealing a kiss. But Yoko Ono is not liked by hardcore Beatles fans who blame her for being the main reason in the breaking up of the Beatles from the moment she met John Lennon. She has this toxic effect on Paul McCartney and John Lennon collaborations and it never healed until Lennon was murdered. Plus that Yoko Ono did some terrible terrible cringy songs that everybody hated. Here in the video, she is shown as this peaceful loving woman, but that was a facade.

      @@MsAppassionata Hi. Did hear the Bros mention they're from Liverpool. I live in Los Angeles, CA and it's common to hear dialects from all over the USA in this city. Just as city of Liverpool is integrated with different dialects from all over the UK. There are Scottish "sounds" in the Bros speech. And if you've heard the voices of John. L. Arthur They’re different but I can still hear the similarities, and don’t forget that when The Beatles lived there it was a very long time ago. They also lost a little of their accent when they moved away from there. Younger people tend to speak differently from their elders anyway. I would even be willing to wager that a lot of adults probably can’t even understand everything their own kids say when they’re speaking slang with their friends.

    Beautiful song. Very moving and well written. However, it was written after John Lennon read a book about Karl Marx. The song is about Communism. He says: no one owns anything - no possessions and that there is No God - a main tenant of Communism because it takes away God and religion completely. It hails the "Utopian" ideal of a Socialism that hasn't worked yet while all its adherents claim "It hasn't been applied correctly" Every time it is applied millions of people are exterminated by their own government.
    The funnier thing is that a few years ago some of John Lennon's letters were discovered. In it he states "I was a foolish, ignorant hippie that new nothing. Communism is evil - it has killed millions. I am really attracted to Ronald Reagan. That guy has the right idea."
    So, we have this beautiful song that brings us all to tears - even me knowing what it is about and we have a Lennon that has become wise through time. If he were alive, I think he would lead the world back from the cliff.
    Sadly, the Communist Revolutionaries have joined that movement precisely because of this very song.
    Great job as always guys. History, when you learn it, is the most interesting of all. As the saying goes "The truth is stranger than fiction"

      @laural.enright4780 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But it's hard to think that he "wised up" if he found Reagan attractive. Reagan, the man who started us onto a very dangerous path in this country.
      The fact is that Lennon could be very opinionated, but his opinions often changed with the wind. I believe at the core of his belief was a decency and desire that everyone treat each other differently. And yet, this is the guy who treated his first wife and son pretty lousy. (I had a father like that myself. Everyone will tell you how great they are and all you can think is, "Well where was that guy when he was with me?") Lennon was a complicated person. I think he was always trying to better himself but that can be a very hard thing to do when you had the childhood that he had.
      I do think songwriting is an instinctual thing. Lennon may have been inspired by that book on communism, but his lyrics can be interpreted beyond communism because in his nature these were the beliefs he was striving for most of his life. Beliefs he was trying to stay true to even though he failed often. How do we live together and not hurt each other? The lyrics can actually be interpreted on the level of simple human interaction. And that's where the genius comes in. And why it's a timeless song. Those who want to only hear communism will always only hear communism (and remember, failed as it might have been, communism began from the revolution of an oppressed people. You like history, read up on Russia sometime and see what the average Russian had to experience under the thumbs of both the Czar and the church).
      But Lennon's lyrics are such that those who want to hear more, will hear more.

    I agree that every person has value, but I do not support John Lennon's naive utopian interpretation (tribute) of communism. Song's message is Anti God, Anti Religion, Anti Society and Anti Family. These messages couched in flowery phrases within an enchanted melody. "Propaganda" at its' very best! Idealology that this song disavows is exactly the beliefs and behaviors that will positively effect the manner in which we engage with others. Though beautifully written and performed this song is meant to play our emotions and lead us into "Communism"!. WAKE Up PEOPLE!

    • @fionatsang9353
      @fionatsang9353 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This song is Pro People and Pro Peace though, things that communism very much is not (at least in practice, whatever it might claim in theory). Maybe that was his point: that we need more of that: more regard for other people, more willingness to foster and maintain peace, and less of the other stuff, certainly less politics; less of the stuff that only complicates things and makes us hurt each other.
      As the man said in another song, 'All You Need is Love' 💗🕊

    You didn't notice the hypocrisy of someone owning an outrageously expensive house singing 'imagine no possessions'.

      He was asking us to "Imagine" all those things. It was really just a dream of his. Hopefully some day probably long into the future, we may get there.

      It isn't hypocritical. Is he supposed to live in a shack there's nothing wrong with having things that he earned with hard work. He helped many people. It would be hypocrisy if he was blind to peoples needs

    Good melody, **BUT Do Not Agree with all of his words**** no god.... no religion, no borders....no individuality.... and being one world........ it’s a dangerous notion that leads to one ruler who will decide for everyone. Also didn’t care for most of his solo work. He was washed up after the Beatles, except the last albums he did, which got more attention because he died.

      Well, you're assessment on John is incorrect, but we're all entitled to our opinions.
      As for the lyrics, one has to be more open minded than you apparently are to understand the core concept. You hear those words and start panicking about one world order being created with one ruler (wherever the hell that came from. Theoretically, if we're all living in harmony, then we can all decide together).
      Less reactionary listeners might understand that at the core of that song is simply a plea for us to live in peace with each other. I don't care what god you worship or don't worship. Just treat me decently and I'll return the favor. (And sorry, religion has been very good at sowing dissent among people). No borders, same deal. You can still be proud of your nationality, but I don't plan to judge you based on that. And again I expect the same courtesy. The problem Lennon is addressing is that we don't do that. In other words, when you're dealing to someone, imagine there are no borders between the two of you. Just the shared experience of being human, similarities of which arise no matter what country you're from.
      I can understand why people might think the song a bit naive, but at the core of it the message is quite clear: When you're dealing with that other person, rather than see only the differences between you both, imagine there is no differences and it might be easier to deal with them from a better place. That's hardly a dangerous notion. Again, unless you're instantly ready to panic politically and worry your identity will be taken away.
      Anyone who knows of Lennon's history knows he was hardly a conformist. He'd be the last one to say, "Let's all be drones."

      So it would have been interesting to see what he would have come up with after his long musical hibernation had he had the chance.
      For SC SU to call him "washing up after the Beatles" is negating the popularity of Imagine, #9 Dream, Cold Turkey, Stand By Me (One of the best covers EVER), Whatever Gets You Through the Night, and a song like I'm Losing You which is just pure White Album Lennon. He didn't have the chart toppers that McCartney had, but then I don't think he cared about that. Both McCartney and Lennon did what they did and they did it well.
