    Interesting how an assumption I made many many years ago has served to confuse me for the rest of my pool career. At a young age, I "assumed", incorrectly, that new cloth has MORE grab due to how much easier it is to draw a ball. So more draw means more grab right?......well, clearly wrong. It draws easier because it doesn't lose as much spin on its way to the object ball. But that assumption altered by ability to understand SLIDE on the rails as well. This is why your videos on basic "invisible stuff" is so important....incorrect assumptions like mine at a young age can hold you back for a lifetime. Great video Niels!!! Thanks

    Fanatatic video!! I have a brand new table (6 months ago) and love it. However I couldn't figure out the rails and now makes total sense why the corner to corner 3 rail kick goes a diamond long! Wasn't sure if my new table was out of whack. Also, can't wait to try less speed to get more travel off the rail. Much appreciated!

    Niels, really awesome job to make a teaching moment out of something most of us don't have enough experience with. When tables are covered in our local room, we get to play with the new cloth a little but it breaks in pretty quickly being played everyday by multiple people. We don't get the level of exposure you do going from tournament to tournament. In your experience, how much playing time does it take before the behavior of the the cloth starts to change? What shots do you try to test a table? What kind of cloth did you have installed?

      @@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen make a video about how to adapt to wet/humid conditions. Out of all the changes on table conditions really humid/raining is the toughest for me to adapt to. My style of play is stunning around the angles when possible which works great on normal conditions and brand new conditions if you know how to adapt, but it seems like on wet conditions the balls throw a whole lot more than expected, the cushions sometimes are extra bouncy if it’s cold outside too and shooting shots all the way down the rail are almost impossible.

Can you also shed some light on how to compensate for new balls (polished) vs unpolished or older balls. Humidity and ball cleanliness are also big factors but it never seems to be nearly as big as that new cloth LOL. I also find it more difficult to play with a harder tip on new cloth because the speeds are generally slower for position or you're trying to do more of those drag shots which in turn cause you to miss you more often with a hard tip which can be frustrating. I think this is why a lot of the kamui super soft and soft tips are popular with the tournament players because of the new felt and fast table conditions.

    Out of curiosity Niels, in example 7, how often would you choose the initial route you mentioned? No matter how I look at that shot I always prefer your two solutions mentioned after, using right or the bank. Both of these options seem far greater percentage shots or that may just be my personal bias coming in for those type of shots.

    For Shot #8, my first instinct was to just roll the cue ball a bit harder and maybe with a bit of right to avoid the 3/7 (can't tell whether it's necessary), and end up near the leftmost diamond on the bottom short rail for the 8 in the same pocket as the stripe. That way I'm coming more into the line of the position window. Is there a particular reason why you preferred the shots you showed over this option?

      @@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen if it's good then it's great news ;) there is one table in our pool hall which has new cloth and most shots are just a nightmare still. So at least if I get hooked during a tournament I know I can send the CB flying ;)

    Awesome lessons … When you aim at a diamond do you aim at the actual diamond or the point on the cushion it lines up with ?… cheers

      Yes, Mladan. It's a lot different. In the video you will find tips on how to adjust and what to be aware of👌👊

    Wow! Great stuff Neils. Thanks. Just a question, how do you really determine "new" vs "old and ready to be refelted" cloth?

    • @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen
      @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I gues the wear and tear really starts to show and it reacts slower and slower

    the shot at 8:59, couldn't you also play it with high right and only play the cueball 3 rails?

    very interesting... how many racks does it take until a new cloth is behaving more "naturally" again?

    • @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen
      @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm I would say in rotation games where you use the full table
      More than one pocket and 14.1 for example, a few days I would say.

    Love all the shots and the comparison were fair enough. But the strength you've used on the 9th shot is very different, see 21:08 vs 21:30

      @NielsTheTerminatorFeijen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you ever done a study of the first generation cyclops cue ball? One place I play at has 6 tables and 3 of them have the original cyclops cue ball. I've heard that even the pros have problems with that, and have refused to use it again.

    New cloth is new for how long? At the beginning of a tournament if the cloth is new. By the second round or third does the cloth change?
