    I love this movie...seen it a million times. It's one of those movies like Wild Cats, Mask or The Last Dragon that literally played on tv everyday. I was 8 yrs old so I don't remember the backlash. Everyone I knew liked it.

    This was probably one of the funniest reviews I have ever seen from you guys. The sheer outrage throughout the entire review was so hilarious that I'm about to rewatch it as soon as I post this comment. I haven't seen this movie in years; I think I was a preteen when I watched it and it wasn't worth a rewatch. I did read that there was a lot of backlash when it came out (understandable) but I was completely baffled when I read that it was a box office hit. Oh, did you know that after the movie he dated and then married Rae Dawn Chong?😮

      Thank you so much!! This absolutely isn’t worth one more second of your time.
      WTF was Rae thinking?! I guess love really is love. Next time someone argues against gay marriage I’ll be like Rae Dawn Chong married C Thomas…after Soul Man! Clearly you can’t help who you love. 😂

    One comedy that definitely featured a joke on blackface done right (or at least done in such a way that was geniuinely funny), was "Silver Streak" from 1976.
    Richard Pryor's character's reaction to Gene Wilder's attempt to pass for black said it all, "We'll make it past the cops. I just hope we don't see no Muslims."

    I remember when this came out, it wasn’t really considered problematic. I had no idea people were protesting this, but I was 13, so what did I know. I do remember thinking, So tanning pills really have that effect if you take a bunch of them. I was also thinking that he’s basically stealing a scholarship from someone who it was actually intended for, and we’re supposed to be rooting for this guy. I did like the scene where he was being obviously profiled when the cop who pulls him over after following him for a really long time. Since fish out of water comedies were popular during this time, I guess someone thought this would a good idea:)

    Unfortunately, I'll have to watch this now to see if James Earl Jones says anything epic so I can super-impose audio over Darth Vader scenes.

    I exceeded the recommended dosage 💀
    Carol Black went on to write 115 episodes of The Wonder Years and I grew up on that show. This is baffling to me

    • @KisstheReviews
      @KisstheReviews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right?! My guess is a son or bf got rejected at Harvard and this was their response…or she did the Wonder Years bc the 60s-70s were bc still largely segregated so they knew she wouldn’t have to write black characters. 😂 🤷‍♂️

    This movie is funny as fck, idc. Cancel culture will not allow media type people to ever admit to liking this movie. Almost every black person I know liked this movie growing up. This may not be true for this current generation, idk.

    I've never seen tropic thunder and refuse to because of the r word to describe a disabled person that doesn't sit well with me

    • @KisstheReviews
      @KisstheReviews  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get that. Like RDJ in blackface, if you don’t see it, you can’t get the context of why that word was used like that was in that particular conversation. The joke isn’t on disabled people but on the guys saying it. That’s a triggering word though so if it makes people uncomfortable I totally understand.
