I’m in my early 70. Newly interested in a trumpet. Coming from a family where music was king. Father plying violin and piano. But nearly disenchanted by Trumpets. Even if dad’s brother had a sax and many other instrument. He pushed me hard in pianos and violins guitars but nearly forbade me with trumpets. For him was too complicated to express musics. Father’s gone and now retired but finally hold in my hands a good one. Moreover I found your video sesssions .Thanks

After 35 years on alto saxophone, last year I branched into trumpet. I have given up on written music. I can "cover" half a dozen songs by ear. 6 or 7 pitches. FUN!

I didn't know you could play scales
on the upper register without pressing a valve. From my experience , a high D could be played with open valves

I love the simplistic approach you have towards music. As a side, the volume for you voice on this video is not in the best upper registry my friend. 👍

Mr Jim first off I have to say thank you for helping people learn this. But with all due respect I have noticed that you tend to salivate quite often like swallow on a dry mouth. This is not meant to be disrespectful but is that a consequence of the many years of doing this? Does your mouth over time gets dry? I’m sorry it’s just very obvious so I wanted to ask that. Again, thank you!
