    Very simple and easy to do. I was overwhelmed when I first saw the road/street glide fairing hook up.

    Never mind my previous comment! All I needed to do was watch the damn video to the 12 minute mark and my question was answered. It's what I get for being an old geezer who hasn't installed audio in 30 years while suffering from ADD!! Excellent video! Thanks!!!

    In regards to what antenna to use, I just used an old car antenna cable about 6" long and soldered a 2 ft. piece of insulated copper wire to the positive side of it (the center, not the outside if the cable, that is the ground) It's just routed around the inside of the fairing and picks up radio stations from over 60 miles away, so I figure it works pretty well for what it is. There may be better ones out there, but for what I have, it works perfect.

    A better way to splice into the factory wiring would be not to cut the wire. You remove a piece of the wire sheathing, split the wire apart, and run the new wire thru and wrap it around. You then use solder the connection and use water proof wrap tape.

    I mounted a batwing on my VTX 1800c & went with the BOSS marine stereo & speaker system with amp & the head cover, it’s water proof & has a UV protective coating for those days you can’t find any shade to park under. The marine stereo systems I think are better for this type of application simply because you never know when you might hit rain & why take the chance???

    This video is so helpful, thanks! I'm curious though. Wont the stereo bounce around with just that bracket holding it? Seems like maybe a piece of foam or insulation wedged in there to steady it might help. What are your thoughts on that? Again, thanks so much for putting this together.

    One VERY important point not made here is that you have to have SHALLOW speakers because the Batwing does not have much depth and you also need slimline grills. standard gills will extend past the bottom of the Batwing. I have had to do a lot of fabricating on the bottom portion of the speaker to fit.

      Depends on your bikes excess electric abilities. First thing you need to do is find out what size fuses are in your ride and what's not being used. Not all bikes can handle the same demands. It does take some time to learn, but you can and you can do it relatively easy! There's allot of videos that explain everything you'll need to know. And the best part is, once you know this stuff, you'll NEVER be misguided again and pretty much be able to effectively investigate and answer your own questions! Happy adventuring!

    I bought a bat wing for my 2005 Yamaha Rd. star 1700 and the stereo opening is very large. It is 5 inches wide by 9 inches long takes for 4 x 5“ speakers but when I bought a stereo for it the hole in the bat wing is too big. And the speaker holes will not accommodate a 4 x 5” speaker because the holes are about a half inch too big what would you recommend to install a marine stereo with four speakers with 6 inch speakers and what adapters would I need to make the stereo fit a hoe.

    I already have a power supply that is turned on and off by the ignition switch, can I use a matching 2 prong connector and hook the red and yellow wires on the radio together to have power? That power supply powers a CB radio on the bike. How can I use that to power my radio? It is a 2 prong black and red.

    Great video gentlemen. I am looking to add a batwing fairing to my 02 Shadow Spirit 1100. A couple of questions...1. I don't recall any information/comments in regards to an antenna for the radio? Assume you would get very little range without one?2. Can waterproof radios/speakers be purchased...and where?Thanks again.

      +Jeff Hutchins You can find many motorcycle / boat radios and speakers that are weather proof. Tune Trapper makes an antenna that can be hidden inside the fairing. Ride safe & Ride Often!

      Keep in mind marine speakers will have a water proof case around the back of the speaker that covers the magnet & can sometimes be larger than car speakers making them to large for the cut out so if 5.25 is recommended then 5.25 marine speakers will be to big

      When I put a batwing with a radio on my VTX I used a marine dipole antenna, plugged it into the radio then hot glued the legs of the antenna along the inside of the back half of the batwing. So far the radio reception is good and the hot glue has held nicely.
      Search the words AM FM dipole antenna It looks like a capital letter T with a plug for automotive radios. Sold on Amazon or eBay or marine supply stores.

    I've been looking at some marine radios to install... but I'd rather have a traditional radio and traditional speakers if I could. Will the water/ humidity damage the deck? Or speakers?

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, water can ruin standard decks and speakers. We would suggest the marine grade. Ride safe & Ride Often!

      most good speakers are already water resistant...there are few speakers made with paper cone or dust caps...most are now made with poly, metal, or kevlar.

    Great video Ryan and Kevin, question , is there a need for an in line fuse when installing the radio ? Thanks

    • @speedshiftr88
      @speedshiftr88 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most stereos come with small fuse...back of unit itself...good luck bro

    • @RyanUrlacher
      @RyanUrlacher  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike BigEasyRider speedshifter88 is correct. The stereo had a built in fuse. If you installing one that doesn't, I would definitely suggest putting one inline on the constant power.

    • @squidduck
      @squidduck 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a side note, fuse should be as close to the battery as possible. Solder and shrink tube is much better and safer than butt connectors.

      At timing 4:50, how can I find the hot connecting wire for Harley Davidson Dyna?
      At timing 17:00, is it the yellow wire is to provide continue power to the stereo when the bike is switch off? So that when switch on the bike again, the stereo can remember the last setting or the clock timing, is it? Why don't stereo has a small battery similar like the one in the motherboard, or a memory chip, that will remember the last setting? When I change the battery every time, the last memory will be gone too... And does the continue power draw a lot of battery juice when the bike is switch?

      Hot Wire for amp remote power that turns on/off with ignition switch.

  • @jaydee8285
    @jaydee8285 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What threw me off is when you accidentally let go of the positive battery wire and was going to plug to the negative

  • @jackright9638
    @jackright9638 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So this may be a stupid question but I am totally new to this. If you cut the wire and butt splice in the new wire (the wire that goes to the stereo) won't whatever was connected in the first place not work anymore? As in if you disconnect whatever was originally connected on the wire from the battery and use that wire to connect the stereo to the battery, than won't whatever was originally connected to the battery just be disconnected? And therefore unpowered because it's no longer connected to the battery the stereo is. Unless maybe you can put both those wires into the one butt connector so you've got battery power to the butt connector and then power from the butt connector to both the stereo and the original connection. If that's possible and that's what you guys did I must have either missed it or misunderstood.

    • @mistercates9
      @mistercates9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      your last guess is correct, they cut the red wire from the battery then twisted the radio wire to one side then but connected them back together so that red wire from the battery now powers the radio and the original connection.

    • @jaydee8285
      @jaydee8285 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't have an amp ran with your stereo then you won't need the blue wire... the blue wire plugs into the remote outlet on the amp
