  • This was a Special Seminar in Foshan 2009 with Grand Master Ip Ching and Grand Master Samuel Kwok. Master Kwok was the translator for Master Ip Ching for this Seminar. Cesar Cesar Olavarria from New Jersey Hoboken was the Special Guest Trainee for this Seminar also a Student of Master Kwok. It was a very Hot day but was worth the training and the education from The Grand Master Ip Ching.
    Enjoy the video.

I am lucky enough to train occasionally with Sifu Kwok, as he sometimes teaches at my university wing chun club (he lives nearby). As well as being a master of his art, he is a gentleman and a great teacher.

It’s such sad news Grand master Ip Ching has passed away a day after Chinese New Year 2020. I had the honour on training and filming him. May he rest in peace and now he can chi sau with his father up in the heavens.

Master IP Chin was a childhood friend and co student of Bruce Lee under IP Man. It was he who brought Bruce Lee to IP Man to learn Wing Chun. He was also looking at Bruce Lee as his hero and was a bodyguard to Bruce Lee in Hong Kong. All this he had narrated in one of his interview. 🙏💐

Amazing to see this, I'm not a Wingchuner, but from a Tai Chi perspective what I see here is that Master Ip Ching is much more relaxed than the student in front of him, he is reading the intention of the attack very easily. He doesn't anticipate, rather he feels something coming and relaxes into it, he's "listening" to the space and the interaction of the two. His contact is light and sticky, but penetrates into the other person without them being aware.
I can see he's also showing specific techniques or at least how they might be used. What makes it work so easily for him is his deep relaxation and sensitive alertness. He can perceive the student's moves but the student, being less relaxed and maybe in awe of the teacher, is unable to connect and feel things in advance, so his reactions are late or non-existent. I'm sure the student is an excellent practitioner, but up against a top master there would be a huge difference in level of skill and experience.

Yip sifu's specialty is his yil-ma. In this clip, he's actually revealing part of his training method to bring this attribute out.
If you know what to look for, and how to train it, your yil-lik will come out quick.
I would agree, probably one of Yip sifu's best clips

    • @TheAnsonysc
      @TheAnsonysc 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Very disappointed to hear the translation yil-ma directly from Cantonese 腰馬,腰is the waist & 馬is stances(馬步),which are applied during practice & learning like what the master had mentioned again & again in the video. With the help of the waist & stances, attacks & blocking will be much more effectively.

He is speaking Cantonese and he gave alot of lessons, but Samuek Kwok only interpreted barely 20% often just the last phrase and missing the main points. I wish someone could subtitle this video with his original speech fully translated.
Wing Chun is a fun style, not necessarily the best style for MMA sports but fun to practice and beautiful to watch. Ground fighting and grappling submission wrestling are really ugly even if they are effective.

ip chun said it himself: he practiced wing chun not to pick fights or trash people, he did it for health and for self-defence. this is why mma people fail to understand the beauty of eastern martial arts. they're not for beating people up, they're for attaining inner peace and longevity. the ip brothers are 90 and can still move as fast as a 20 year old. i think that's testament to wing chun's prowess

    • @TheAnsonysc

Cheah Wen Chong Not just Ip Chun, but every grand master; the students and even the discipline of the Okinawa Karate do not & expect to have a fight. In the ancient times and even now, a responsible grand master would not and should not accept a student with no respect; low or no morality with poor conduct. So we should not & do not expect to have a street fighting at all. MMA is new and it is taught how to fight. It's different from traditional martial arts. Only a fool would compare MMA with traditional martial arts just like to compare an orange with an apple!

@Yuro Tahe Theres a difference between sports that has rules (like f.e. MMA, Boxing, etc...) and self defense MAs (like Krav Maga, Ving Tsun, etc....) that has no rules.
The one is made for competitions, the other to defend your life & health on the streets.
Ofc pure Ving Tsun probably would lose in a MMA fight with rules bcs half of the movements are not allowed (hits to the throath, stabing eyes, etc....) but on the other side its inredibly strong in street fight encounter where you have to protect your life & health.
Bcs its not written on your head that you practice Ving Tsun most encounter on the street dont respect you as enemy......1 fast counter, 1 hit to the throat...street fight is over after 1-2 seconds and thats the main purpose of MAs like Ving Tsun.
Its like to say Kali sucks bcs it cant compete in MMA....ofc it cant compete bcs, guess what, knives are not allowed in MMA. ;)
And sorry to say, but MMA is not "real fight"...its a competition.....real fights happen on the street.
I know both sides, practiced 9 years MMA by myself before Ving Tsun...those are 2 completely different worlds for 2 completely different purposes.

Again here we see the palm covering the wrist -- it's wrong and prevents proper training and use of the drill. ChiSao is not fighting it's an exercise and as such it has rules and limits.. If you don't understand that it's why your training doesn't translate to skill building... Ip's top students didn't play this kind of crap ChiSao the palms never cover the wrists on the roll, it's a clear sign the players are either cheating or don't know what they're doing and you will NEVER see Ip Man doing it anywhere....
