I am gong through this video minute by minute. Pat is alleviating my fears of this new and complicated machine! 😊My old Singer (over 45 years old) stopped working in the middle of a big project. I am looking forward to getting it back on track with Pat's help!
Pat did an AMAZING job in this tutorial. I haven't sewn in years and just purchased the Brother PS500. I felt a bit nervous, considering my old machine is well over 20 years old, but this has me confident that I can jump back in no problem!
A great tutorial. I have a different Brother model, but this was still helpful to me. I never knew what that screw on Foot J was! Thanks, Pat, for taking the time to make these instructional videos.
I just bought this machine and love it, its has the best features and the needle threader is awesome. I have not had any issues with it. I love the foot pedal speed control as well.
I have two of these machines and never tried to use most of the features that you have covered here. Thank you, sooooo much for all of this information with demonstrations!
Hi, I’m watching your video on the brother pacesetter PS 500 and my question is can the double needle be used on a walking foot for Quilting a quilt? thank you
I just received this machine today. Is there a way to adjust stitch width and length for decorative stitches? My cheaper brother machines can but I can’t figure it out on this one.
Does the needle need to be in the center position? I notice that the needle in the video is in the left position. Can it be in either way? I do know that it must be at its highest point. Thank you.
Hi there, are you referring to when you thread the needle? If you are threading your needle it needs to be in the highest position and in the center. We hope this helps.
Yes, I was referring to when you are using the automatic needle threader. I just got this machine and have read the manual entries but did not see this specified other than needle must be at highest point. It certainly is different from my other older machines. But it does make nice stitches. It IS important to read the manual. There are a few things that one needs to figure out just what they mean! I have sewn for a long time, but this is first computerized machine. I have two older machines, in particular, a workhorse Pfaff with servo motor and also a Kenmore. They all do some things very well. In general, the Brother has good feed. I used some specialty stitches to make a newborn gown. Beautiful! I am probably not interested or have room for a serger, preferring to concentrate on good older school techniques. Thank you.
Hi Mike, It sounds like you are talking about the lever for the buttonhole foot. Like Liane had said, you pull it down when you are using the buttonhole foot. We hope this helps.
Ive had a brother ps500 for about 5 months. Projects take 3 times as long with brother ps500 because of mistakes. Having to fuss with machine takes my attention away from the sewing . Also the fed dogs wobble sometimes at high speed. Also I cant change the needle position. Also I have to take out the manual each and everytime I sew because its very tricky. Ive become so stressed out using the machine Ive started hand sewing which actually goes faster and more accurate than using the Brother which says a lot about the quality of the machine. Id like to get my money back. Before I had an old 1970s Singer I bought for $30 at a garage sale. I was able to work faster and more accurate on that old Singer the Brother ps500 was very expensive and not worth the $30 my old machine cost!
Hi there! The more you use your machine, the more comfortable you will get with it. Pat goes over how to change the starting point of the needle position beginning at approximately 20:48 time marker. If you watch through the whole video she shows you how to select different stitches that will move your needle in different positions. If you want to just move your needle left and right while you are sewing with a straight stitch, you could simply touch the + or - where you change your stitch width. We encourage you to watch the whole video, as we think some of the things you are struggling with are explained in depth by Pat. We love the Brother PS500 and stock our classrooms with this model because of how reliable it is! We also encourage you to go and see your local Brother dealer because we are here to help you, that's why we are here! We hope this helps, Happy Sewing!
Sounds like you want to do it all, all at once. I've found learning a few things at a time works for me. i gradually add & learn additional features as i go as a better way to remember it all. there are so many great features which allow improved techniques and ease of use.
@@sewingstudiofl I use it everyday unfortunately. It is a horrible machine made by a horrible company who seek to rip off home sewers. I HATE Brother now and they will NEVER get another cent from me.
Very nice to see actual instructions that will help me in my other machines and 2 brothers . Thank you so much.

THANK YOU. CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE FONT?
?? monograming: can you or how to do lower case & how to create a space between words. Thank you for any assistance.
Enchanting Rosemary has a video that explains that procedure.
So, how do I raise and lower the feed dogs?
Does this machine do a 4 hole button?

Hi. trying to find out what the level behind the needle shaft is for its labled 42A
That’s for the buttonhole foot. U have to pull it down when using that foot

When I press the width control button my light turns red and I can't make the zigzag go wider and narrower. What am I doing wrong?
Button holder only uses small buttons????
The bobbin thread does not come up after it is cut with the cutter. The bobbin thread becomes tangled. The project cannot sew with no bobbin thread.
Where is the basting button?
My. Button hole keeps giving me an error
R u pulling the lever down and making sure it’s in the right place when u do
Camera angles made it hard to see.

@@lindapayne5116 Ok. Great. I'd love to.

I suspect the majority of these comments are shills. I have the Brother PS500 and it is HORRIBLE.
What’s wrong with it?
