Fantastic video, can you please tell me which pens you use for the writing please? Any I've ever bought have never worked once they've touched the fondant
Hi Julie! Make sure you're using gumpaste and not fondant. We use the AmeriColor Food Writer edible markers. Make sure whatever you are writing on is completely hardened and dry. Hope that helps. :)
you both are hilarious😂 as a mentioned before, but that only ads to the vlog and the viewers to 'stick around'👍 Great tutorial, easy to follow. Love from the Netherlands X.
Glad you discovered and thanks for watching our videos! The chalks we use on some decorations are "non-toxic" and are only meant for coloring decorations that will be kept as keepsakes. They are not made for consumption (like a lot of petal dusts, glitters, colors made to decorate) but it a particle of the chalk accidentally does get on the cake, there is no harm as it is non-toxic. We know in advance when a client will be keeping something as a keepsake so only use our chalks on those items. Hope that helps. :)
Good question Tiffany! If our gumpaste is too dry when first kneading it, we spritz it with a tiny bit of water to soften. This keeps it nice and pliable but not "mushy". It all has to do with how much tylose you add to your fondant as well when turning it into gumpaste. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out our tutorial on how we make our gumpaste using Wilton fondant. It always works great for us. :)
Hi Kim! Thank you for your great question. All of the modeling steps are done one after the other. We don't wait at all. Hi Tammy, Thank you for watching our video and for your question. The only difference between gumpaste and fondant is that gumpaste is actually fondant but it just has tylose powder added to it. Hi Naomi, You "can" use fondant but in my opinion it won't work as well as gumpaste. You'll have a tougher time getting it to hold/keep its shape. Is gum paste different than roll out icing? (as we call it in the uk) I recently made a garden cake and all of the vegetables took me a while to make as the icing was so squishy and hard not to damage when handling. Do you refrigerate as you make these?
Hi Zoe! Gumpaste is fondant mixed with tylose powder which is a drying agent. It really "firms up" and makes the fondant pliable, strong, and easy to work with. Not squishy at all. For that very reason we don't like to create with only fondant. We never refrigerate our 3D handmade decorations. I hope that helps Zoe! :)
