The beautiful thing about FRS is that everything is handled expertly, with such a sense of calm, and the knowledge is shared so freely. Love your work!
Oh the beauty of Biltong!! Love that it's become intercontinental, tickles my South African roots deeply. Power food for power people... Big love from South Africa!
Another great video kids, thanks for sharing. Biltong ~ excellent. Next time, dry roast the coriander until you hear it start to pop (do not burn it). Then add it to the grinder. The taste and aroma is amazing.
So I got a few minutes here and came back to watch your biltong making. Eish it looks lekkerrrr. Pascale really showed how she was enjoying it by munching with great gusto. Cheers. See ya in the next video.
An amazing plant. The tea has very good antioxidant properties. An interesting use we put it to on the ranch is in our horse feed. It helps prevent/control mange. It is also used as an ingredient in human skin care products.
Good to see you making good old South African Biltong, and naming it correctly, it's much nicer with venison, kudu, impala, wildebeest make awesome Biltong, awesome channel
Troy , you are truly blessed, a beautiful girl who not only eats Biltong but can make it too ! You’re punching above your weight mate ! Good on you both x
Another cool vid, thank you. As many different ways to make biltong as there are recipes they say. We use a very simple mix; coriander, black pepper, rock salt and malt vinegar only. Layer the vinegar -meat- spices into a plastic container, refrigerate for a few hours, repack into another plastic container so the top meat is now at the bottom, back into the fridge. Hang it directly the following morning first thing, no rinsing or patting dry. It does drip so we lay out newspaper. This hangs in our garage with a dehumidifier running and a fan circulating air. If the fan blows directly onto the biltong it may form a dry outer casing with a too damp inner portion. I understand that biltong is "cured" by the salt and vinegar as opposed to "dehydrated" as jerky is. Don't know much about jerky but will try to make some sometime so that I can offer a more informed opinion. Enjoy your billies, droe-wors next :)
You 2 have got me salivating. I used 2 buy Bitong from South Africaking @ the bottom Toowoomba Toll Bar. YUM Regards Kad. Ps, I really enjoy your work keep it up.
Totally cool people talking about totally practical things. Every time, all the time. I love making bacon and smoked foods- next on my list biltong. Sail on!
Do it with game meat, this is a South African staple. If you want the best recipes I'm sure you will find a lot of SA farmers recipes on Google and you tube
Very mouth watering,I enjoyed the outboard segment,I work on these ,sometimes I put the impeller in the housing with vanes correct and then slide both on the shaft together to the key. Same result just different, great video always informative!
I'm not sure who was losing their minds more............me or the dogs!!!! Thanks again Pascale and Troy...........and thank you Raph...........i'm going to use the recipe!!!!
Thanks for the impeller vid. I reckon it’s worth cutting that as a seperate little vid as no one has done the 3HP Yamaha as far as I can see on TH-cam- thanks again
Thanks for including the beautiful dogs, I can now see why my islander mates love my pooch so. Could almost be their twin. Informative as always, happy days
Pascal returns, swag of lures, biltong, good friends, home brew.....not sure I've seen you smile so much, thanks Raphy for sharing. Duralac or Never Seez (Seize) on the bolts to prevent the inevitable galvanic corrosion? And couldn't help thinking it would be a good a time as any to do a gear box oil change.....while you're staring at. Another fantastic episode, cheers.
The oil got changed but it seemed such a common knowledge thing. The corrosion thing seems under control in those Yamaha engines. Its been running in pretty adverse conditions for quite a few years.
No worries Troy, didn't think you could resist an oil change, I enjoy your DIY stuff and think its is very comprehensive, can't tell you how many times mates have asked for help with seized lower leg bolts. Hope both are well, and the fish are biting, cheers
One of your best video's yet.. For whatever reason, I REALLY enjoy the informative vids you guys do... And you've inspired me to get my old Jerky setup out and make a run.
When making biltong you should also make some thin meat strips as cut for "beef stroganoff". Once dry the snap-sticks are excellent snack foods, perfect for those long night-time watches. You guys will love it here in South Africa where we have whole shops dedicated to selling biltong and dry sausage (droëwors). Many biltong recipes can be found with an easy internet search, as well as for different biltong box designs, from a simple cardboard box with light bulb and fan to real fancy ones. Fair winds... ⛵
I’m currently working on TI driving the pilot boats and just went and said g’day to Raph and checked out the biltong box, looks pretty great so think I’ll have to try it out when I get home from work
I love watching you two and your adventures especially when it comes to the food and the tech bits, such a wealth of knowledge! I reallllly hope you write a book especially with all the recipes so I can take it sailing with me. Keep up the good work x
Gee, as important as that pump impeller is to the wellbeing of the engine....I'd think the factory would have designed an easier way to change them....more like the main diesel water cooling pump. I could almost taste that jerky 'cause my mouth was drooling way over here in the USA! Nice to have friends like Raph show you and us his jerky making techniques. Thanks to all of you!
All outboard water pump impellers are similar to that one. He does a great job of explaining how it works and the repair process. I agree the jerky made me drool... also from USA...Thanks guys for your vidoes. !!!
Troy, I didn't see you pop the SS cup out of the housing, often little bits can get caught in the port. Nice tutorial on both the Impeller change and Biltong making, Might have to give that a try.
Jeeze Troy! For a weekend farmer/yachty up on a lake cruise - I could probably get by pulling the beef out of the freezer, and then storing in a vinegar based marinade without refridgeration for the duration of trip! And pop it on the grill! - and yeah! we ended up buying a 22ft lake boat this summer!
Great stuff you guys !!!!!! Love the jerky and how to replace an impeller in an outboard motor. It sure is a ton of work to make that jerky. 👍👌👊✨🥂✨⛵️⚓️🚣✨
agree with ed rosenberger about that impeller thingy-me-bob. you totally lost me at the re-install :-) now, figure out how we can do that jerky on our boats :-)
The most important thing on re assembly is to turn the impeller in the direction of rotation when inserting. this way the vanes are bending in the right direction.
A note on mechanic things, have you guys down there got Scotch Brite? it's better than steel wool, or sandpaper, or anything. especially on corrosion and grimy bits. it comes in different colours. you want purple or green. get some. Also, the world's best assembly grease, totally salt water proof , is something called Top 2000 Super long time grease. (really, it's called that. greases have weird names. )
Yummmmmmm !! Troy you are a great narrator and natural born Teacher.
I have FAR more respect for the process they go through to make the jerky I buy off the shelf.
I'm going to go to sleep with a recording of Troy's soothing voice, explaining outboard maintenance tonight.
Used this biltong recipe a number of times now over quite a few months and it is excellent!
Seems like you figured out the ancient South African Secret Biltong recipe. Looks amazing
I'm in another world watching you guys. Can't wait to join you there!
The biltong looks good and yes it never last very long (greetings from South Africa) 😊
The beautiful thing about FRS is that everything is handled expertly, with such a sense of calm, and the knowledge is shared so freely. Love your work!
Its unbelievable isn't it!!
Thats 'cause we love you guys.
Oh the beauty of Biltong!! Love that it's become intercontinental, tickles my South African roots deeply. Power food for power people... Big love from South Africa!
Most enjoyable watching, the jerky preparation was an education, many thanks for sharing
These video logs just get better and better. What a privilege it is to watch them. Thank you very much.
It's a great advertisement for that Yamaha outboard ,it just keeps going and going, no matter what you do to it.
It will outlive me I'm sure.
Watching you guys unbox stuff is such fun.
Another great video kids, thanks for sharing.
Biltong ~ excellent. Next time, dry roast the coriander until you hear it start to pop (do not burn it). Then add it to the grinder. The taste and aroma is amazing.
I like to do it that way too.
Nice video. Learned how to make biltong. Wonderful way to inspire people.
So I got a few minutes here and came back to watch your biltong making.
Eish it looks lekkerrrr. Pascale really showed how she was enjoying it by munching with great gusto.
Cheers. See ya in the next video.
You'll be happy to know that Rooibos has pride of place in our pantry also.
An amazing plant. The tea has very good antioxidant properties.

Excellent episode Pascale and Troy. There’s always something new to inform and entertain in each episode. The best sailing channel by far.
Always look forward to your videos. Thanks guys.
v nice compliment to sailing videos, really enjoyed that, learnt something too. Can see changing impeller not difficult
Troy , you are truly blessed, a beautiful girl who not only eats Biltong but can make it too ! You’re punching above your weight mate ! Good on you both x
Keep up the good work! thanks for all the freely shared tips
So good to have wonderful friends like Raph.

I thought biltong would use some exotic spice not worcester sauce! Glad to see Lea and Perrins rules the world. Thanks for two good lessons.
Amazing tutorial both on the food and the outboard. You the professor. Thank you both!.
That looks so yummy. Thanks for another great video.
Great 👍 as always ⛵️⚓️
You were born to do this folks.... btw you need a fur ball too!
I have a dog shaped hole in my heart. Maybe if we get a bigger boat.
You 2 have got me salivating. I used 2 buy Bitong from South Africaking @ the bottom Toowoomba Toll Bar. YUM Regards Kad. Ps, I really enjoy your work keep it up.

Careful about the path you are going down- there is no turning back!
Whoa, Bob's Red Mill! Didn't know they were available in Australia. They're local to me, and they make THE BEST quality stuff!

That looks sooooo delish.. Just love the way you both come up with new ideas for us You Tubers to watch
Great video! That jerky looks great. If you want to make it lasts longer and not get mold vacuum seal them two in a sleeve!
Should have changed the gearbox oil too. Make my own biltong too mate, it's terrific stuff.
We did change it but thought it was such a basic thing that we didn't include it.
I learned something new (always a good day when you learn something new) how to change an impeller and make Jerky (biltong) .... Thanks
Another great vid folks.
As always very entertaining as well as educational.
Biltong looks like a treat.

Hi guys from Venezuela
next we gunna see FRS on a TV cooking channel ,, well done T & P ,,,
Funny as. I was totally watching for Raphi's first reaction to your home brew. I thought this will be a true test..if he squints or something. lol
How do you do it? Every one (ep) a gem. So interesting.
Love making jerky. Nice job.
Raffy and Dr Scott really are great friends and just another of the unexpected benefits we gained from the FRS project.
All outboard water pump impellers are similar to that one. He does a great job of explaining how it works and the repair process. I agree the jerky made me drool... also from USA...Thanks guys for your vidoes. !!!
wow you guys made it look easy to dry that meat. I'm going to give it a try thanks .
good stuff! Loved the outboard repair -
Troy, I didn't see you pop the SS cup out of the housing, often little bits can get caught in the port. Nice tutorial on both the Impeller change and Biltong making, Might have to give that a try.
Good tip fishaholic, thanks.

Wahoo! good for you. Whats her name?
What else......."Symphony" !!!!!
I could smell that all the way here. Them dogs an me were both lickin our chops.
Was nice to see you do the motor
Another episode that rocks from Free Range Sailing! ,,,,,,/),,,,,,
Thanks, the location of the connection set screw at mid-shaft made me wonder if the shaft turned continuously.
I enjoy your videos!
The gear selector shaft is seperate to the drive shaft. I guess we might have illustrated that better.
Nice!
Great stuff you guys !!!!!! Love the jerky and how to replace an impeller in an outboard motor. It sure is a ton of work to make that jerky. 👍👌👊✨🥂✨⛵️⚓️🚣✨
Yes, you calling it by its correct Name Biltong!!!!
Dang that looks GREAT !!!
OUTSTANDING!!!!! Good On ya mates
Dam your makin me hungry. Those cute doggies deserved a treat LOL
I only have one thing to say about this episode ?. Yummo :-)
you want to put a bit of grease on the threads of the bolts also when reassembling the leg ,ally and stainless in contact will seize over time.
maintenance meditation with Troy
All right, I'm Ready to replace the impeller. When do we Overhaul the Engine? Thanks Much, Troy.
agree with ed rosenberger about that impeller thingy-me-bob. you totally lost me at the re-install :-)
