Carl Sagan was an amazing physicist, my professor said he once went for a seminar taken by Carl, and the next thing he remembered is watching the wristwatch and realising that he spent 5 hours listening him.

@@Harshgupta3po Is it blindly following though?
How can forces and particles just pop into existence and make the universe?
A creationist chooses to believe in a greater power rather than inanimate forces and particles impossibly coming into existence and making what we see around us today.
The reason people prefer to believe in the inanimate over a greater power is because, in their minds, it would no longer make them an 'intellectual' if they believe in what creationists believe in. 'An afterlife is a fairytale designed to make you less scared to die', 'Who made the greater power?', 'Why create evil and suffering?'. Questions that push them to believe in the inanimate. An animate power is, by default, the more logical and rational answer in respect of origins. It's everything subsequently associated with the greater power that proves too much of a barrier for them.

Was able to shake this man's hand in the early 80's. He was working at Cornell University doing research for NASA. I was helping a company move offices around. Realized who it was and asked if I could shake his hand. When asked why , I told him that I had watched COSMOS, 5 minutes of his time is why I still look up today and wonder. A great and humble man.

He seems to have had amazing insight and prescience. I got to work with him on #4 in the mid '80s with Stanley Miller as well and what struck me the most about both of them was their humility; It's hard to describe how much more present that was in them than any other sign of brilliance though I came to see those two qualities to be interrelated in them. That and their interest in students; understanding them and encouraging them; truly acting as if each generation is a stepping stone and they were merely doing their part.

I remember watching Cosmos for the first time- it was, like, on in the background and a friend said I should watch it. And honestly, I REGRET to say, I was only half paying attention- I was distracted with some sort of household chore and then- THEN I heard it: 'Hooow llllovely trees are'. And I turned over to my laptop screen and I had to reply: 'ya...ya Bruh...trees are pretty Trippee' And I was hooked man. Now I'm in college doing Genetics- ALL because I watched Cosmos. Hell of a thing. I would really really recommend watching Anne Druyan's sequels, especially 'Cosmos: Possible Worlds'. The series are simply wonderful and touching and fascinating and- honestly- the best screen writing done in any documentary. Period. Thank you for this video- it was a JOY to watch:D

2021 really started with a BINGBABUM, didn't it? It looks like 2021 is gonna be my year in astrophysics! I can't wait for my forthcoming experiments, writings and competitions in astrophysics!
I've adored Carl Sagan since reading Cosmos, and everytime I see the book, I just feel a very deep connection not only to the book itself but to the universe, humanity and Carl Sagan. It felt that he poured his heart out, on his wishes for the furtherance of humankind and science in the book!
I just have the urge to cry at the loss of such a wonderful human being and at his very comforting voice. But I guess we should rather be joyous that he was alive! We should always look on the bright side, right??
So Tibees, thank you for this out-of-this-world video and the ones before, for it has inspired my love for maths, science and most of all, physics. Thank you Tibees, for following Carl's footstep to continue to inspire and light a fire under all of the curious like myself 🎊💙🎆 and of course, bonne annee!

During his time at the University of Chicago Carl did work at the Yerkes 40" refractor in Delevan Wisconsin. The odd this about the Yerkes telescope is that the telescope is stationary and the floor moves up and down. There is a gouge in the floor where reportedly Sagan and some other students accidentally rammed the floor up into the eyepiece assembly. Alcohol was suspected.

For all of the established public persona of Sagan, everybody forgets that he was a vocal advocate of detonating a nuclear bomb on the moon, he vociferously supported USAF efforts to deflect any public discussion of the UFO phenomenon - to the point of attempting to recruit other scientists and astronauts to declare that nothing existed, and he was a strong supporter of at least two scientific disinformation programs that had been created by Yuri Andropov and the KGB in the 1970s and 80s. Sagan's virtuous portrayal via Public Broadcasting in the US, was designed to inflate his image in the effort to create government-supported perceptions of science. It was substantially successful and even today he is worshiped by a younger generation that has been kept in the dark. Love you Tibee and Happy New Year.
