Great news for Brian, Ashita No Joe is getting an English release at the end of this year from Vertical! Already have mine pre-ordered since I've been watching the show and I tell ya it really is phenomenal
I love Tezuka. I used the work in Takadanobaba, where he used to live and you can see his artwork display around the city. Another of my favorites would be the Lone Wolf and Cub series. I’m sure a master book of that manga would look amazing!
5:13 This is the first time I've seen scans of pages from Ashita no Joe. I'm surprised that there is such well-preserved material from that time, but at the same time, knowing that in Japan there was never a market for buying and selling originals by the authors, it makes sense that so much material is preserved, which would surely be archived in some repository. Here in Argentina, the first volume in Spanish has just been published this month for the first time. It's a manga that I've been waiting for all my life since I saw the anime.
Enjoyed those artist editions. I just bought the original art for an almost complete Gekiga manga (around 130 pages) by Yoshito Tsukimiya from the 60s and now need to track down the actual manga! I think it was called Spider Woman.
You and Bryan have tremendous chemistry, maybe you could find a way to do this same format via livestreams when he's back in America! Either way very much appreciate this content, the internet can be a cold place, but stuff like this makes it all worthwhile!
35:22 This is ガナパの手 Ganapa No Te by Keita Amemiya. "Keita Amemiya is a Japanese film and television director, screenwriter and character designer from Urayasu, Chiba. He directed the films Mirai Ninja, Zeiram, Kamen Rider ZO, and Kamen Rider J, and created the tokusatsu franchise Garo in 2005." - Wiki
51:10 I need to read more Ishinomori because I thought this was Chikae Ide for a second. I bet she was influenced by Ishinomori, but this book instantly reminded me of her manga about a woman who bowls to pay for he little bother's surgery.
He went to school (Asagaya College of Art and Design) with Masakazu Katsura, Katsuya Terada, Takayuki Takeya and Nirasawa Yasushi. And they all seem to be really cool with Shin-Ichi Hiromoto. All great artists.
great video. It looks like Ashita no Joe Perfect Reproduction Book Series is sold out. Is there any volumes of that or the Tezuka Reproduction Books available?? anywhere😪????💔
Ganapa No Te is by Keita Amemiya. He worked on Kamen Rider Black RX and created/character designed/directed Zeiram, Kamen Rider ZO and J, and Garo, just to name a few.
I believe Ashita no Joe have gotten an English translation and release, i think it was suppose to be released about now. I loved the old Anime of Ashita no Joe, but it´s been many decades ago since i last saw it. That Dororo book is amazing, seeing the raw pages is really adding a lot, i have the manga and read it many times so seeing the orignal pages in this form adds and expands your admiration and appreciation for the artist and the manga but also the process. I have the swedish release of that Alien comic, picked it up some years back. You gotta have it, everything Otomo! That is a nice Takashi Obata piece, wish i could have gone to that exhibition. It's hard to get anywhere as an artist in todays world but it is nice to see people don't give up and always keep on going. Ishinomori was gold! Long live Ed!
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

Oh! You know the JP title? 蜘蛛女? I'd be interested in tracking it down out of curiosity!
@japanbookhunter yeah, that matches the kanji on the photo of the cover i have. It was published by Tokyo Top-sha.

Awesome finds! In a crazy coincidence, I emailed you about the guy doing the Otomo companions way back in June.
Oh dang, I'm always so busy it's hard to keep up with side quests. haha. Those companions are lit though!
@japanbookhunter yeah man, just trying to send some good info your way. Glad you found them!

You guys should continue these bounty battles!
The death of Tohru Rikiishi was a culture event in Japan back when it happened.
I love fighting, but hate the damage people take. Such a sad thing to see great fighters lose it all.
THE COLLAB WE NEEDED!!
Been toooo long!
LOVE THE BACKGROUND! I'm a manga collector as well! I have 3,000+ volumes in my manga library!
love these talks between big manga fans
We love sharing our love with all of y’all!
Oh boy, that Tatari Takayama looks like so much fun!
He was an amazing artist. Such a shame we lost him so early.... :(

Mr. T was in DC Cab. Not Taxi Driver.
