Welcome back to our pseudo podcast series: "Strange Resort" the show that uncovers the dark side of otherwise sunny destinations.
Tonight, we are exploring the history of Salem's Lot, focusing on the 1900s, including the Marsten House, Straker & Barlow, and the events documented in the short story "One for the Road..." All brought to you by your ghost-hunting podcaster: George Hatfield...
If you enjoyed this video, you might want to check out the original story: "One for the Road" is featured in the collection NIGHT SHIFT by Stephen King, and it serves as a sequel (or some would say epilogue) to the novel Salem's Lot.

Ralphie Glick becoming a vampire was from the TV miniseries. In the novel, Ralphie was sacrificed by Straker on an altar at the Harmony Hill Cemetery. He was eviscerated and dismembered to consecrate the town and prepare it for Barlow.

The Glick boy tapping on his brother’s window in the production with David Soul and Lance Kerwin…that one scene gave me nightmares for years. Then I became a nurse, and found out that the real monsters are all too human. People brought from the jail, jailed because they killed their own children, looking at you with flat dead eyes, but they still get a crappy gallbladder removed. A man who murdered his girlfriend because she was paying “too much attention” to their new baby. Baby was never found. People who should have been in jail, but were too rich, too influential too connected to those in power. I’ll walk alone at night thru a sea of vampires, it’s humans that cause my nightmares now. At least a vampire murders to eat. Humans do it because they like it.

I'm a therapist, and I know what you mean. My work and avocation is to try and somehow help heal the damage these human monsters do to the people they're closest with, and I would bet that you and I could spend at least a week swapping horror stories that we picked up on the job. I too fear humans far more than I ever could any fictional monster, knowing what my patients have been through... or in some cases, done.

It's interesting how much this story has with Gray Matter- the bar/convenience store (old timers and liquor) the blizzard, the family crisis, turned into monsters. And then your adaptation also elects to add the layer of ambiguity.

Read more "old" Stephen King - he's got a small universe going, where you run across some of characters and locations a few times. Events and people from books are referenced in other books as well. Derry (from It) and Castle Rock (Needful Things) are two other towns. There's also a tv show called "Castle Rock" (sadly, only two seasons. i LOVED it, tho,) that combines many of his characters and locations.
This channel is awesome! I love documentary style. I first read King in 1980 ("Night Shift") - 12yr old me would have been obsessed with these videos. 55yr old me surely is.🤩🤩

So many tales get the idea about vampires having no reflection or photography wrong. Reflections and pictures of them are possible as long as silver is not involved. And if by some crazed chance, vampires were invisible in photos, either all her clothes would be visible, not just her ring. Or none of her would be visible, including the ring. No way would the only thing seen be the piece of jewelry.
Nothing against you for making the video. I know you are using what is in the stories. It just, is not logical or fact.

And "One for the Road" is sort of like a sequel in short-fiction format.
