  • The Magnificent Seven is a 1960 American Western film directed by John Sturges and starring Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, and Steve McQueen.
    The supporting cast features Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, and Horst Buchholz.
    The film is an Old West-style remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai. Brynner, McQueen, Bronson, Vaughn, Dexter, Coburn, and Buchholz portray the title characters, a group of seven gunfighters hired to protect a small village in Mexico from a group of marauding bandits (whose leader is played by Wallach).
    The film's musical score was composed by Elmer Bernstein.
    In 2013, the film was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

    You have to give credit to Robert Wilke the bad guy. He appeared in hundreds of TV and movie roles. Most always as the villain. Without villains, you do not have a movie. Great actor who never got much acclaim.

      The Vic Tayback, the cook in Alice, the old TV show. Also made a guest appearance in Star Trek, TOS. A very prolific character actor.

    Thanks for this. I love this movie. These guys are the epitome of cool. I love Coburn in this scene, the way he is so completely nonreactive . . . until he needs to be. When the guy says, "Look at me!" and he tilts his hat up with one finger, you get the impression he WAS looking at him already-- THROUGH his hat brim no less. At 1:04 when he rises it's like when a king cobra lifts up before striking.
    He does more acting with his body language in this scene than a lot of people do in their whole career. At 2:36 when the guy kicks his leg he tenses, but as soon as the guy just insults him ("You're a liar.") he pulls his hat down 2:40 again. Insult = not a threat.
    Then the guy has to keep going, almost comically when he says, "You're a COWARD and a liar," like he's double dog daring him or something.

      This is one of the greatest movies of all time NavyMom. The characters and the dialogue are classic and at times profound. Should be required watching at least once a year.

      I stood outside Mr Bernstiens apartment in New York. If you ever visit Manhattan, visit it. The history of that building is unbelevievable, especially where a certain ‘pop star’ is concerned.

    Is this for real? Has there acutely been in real life a dual between a gun slinger and a knife thrower, and the gun slinger lost from being poked to death by a rapidly thrown knife flung from a distance?

    With that kind of accuracy, I'm sure he could have hit him in the arm and avoid killing the guy

    • @notfeedynotlazy
      @notfeedynotlazy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Not he couldn't. That's why he didn't want to do it. The arm moves too fast, when the knife arives the arm might be in a different place than he was aiming for. He HAD to aim somewhere fixed - like the log. Or the chest. The guy was a moron for not realizing that, too.

      1. The torso is a much bigger target so easier to hit
      2. An injured person can still shoot a gun
      3. It's all make believe anyway 😊
