This was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST explanation on the color wheel! I bought one Recently and really did not understand what you just explained in a few minutes. Thank you so so much.
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial! I know color wheels should seem simple enough, but the way you explain it is the first time I have ever completely understood it! Your the best! ♥
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have both color wheels and I have several books on the color wheel and could not fully understand how to use it . Today I have learn (especially how to use the numbers on the color wheel) wow. This is why I love TH-cam finding artist like yourself who are willing to share information. I appreciate you as I am sure others do as well. I will be checking out your other videos as well. As they say in life you can never stop learning. I am 68 and I have become obsess with coloring books of all subjects. I am learning everyday how to become a better colorist because of artist like yourself. Again, thank you for taking the time to share.
Thank you so much for this video. I am an acrylic painter who has been working to better develop my understanding of color theory. This video helped so much. I wasn’t aware of the small color wheel prior. That will take my paintings to a whole new level.
Thx u. Brought a pocket color wheel about a month ago. Looked at it for a few moments and put in my coloring case. Took it out for first time when I saw u had a tutorial on them. This is great. You really r here for your viewers or the "people's colorist" I like to call u. Thx u much.
Thank you! I just learnt so much from you. I recently purchased a colour wheel and was a little confused as to how to use it . You explained it perfectly and i feel so much more confident about starting my painting. I had put it off for a while now but now not any longer. Thank you once again!
Man i wish i paid more attention in art class with this color wheel. This was my least favorite subject but it is the most important thing to learn! Lol Now im here trying to learn it...glad u helped us
I Am new to coloring - and was about to GIVE UP - I HAVE NO IDEA how to combine colors -and my coloring looks like a 5 year old coloring book --- but after seeing this video - I think I will continue with this hobby because you have given me HOPE . .Color wheel very very well explained - I need to get one - thank you SO MUCH .
Great video, Erin! Very useful and helpful to those of us who struggle with color selection and your instructions were easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Excellent explanation- such clear, helpful and immediately useful info!! You just took the mystery out of how to use the color wheel sucessfully and helped make my projects work right from the start! Thank you so much for posting!!
oh gosh, just finding this video and soooo needed it. Have the little wheel and could not figure the method to the madness???? Thank you! Best job ever explaining!
I've taken many art classes and color has always been a struggle for me. I have two color wheels (one I made myself in class), and the Pocket Color Wheel that you show in your video. Your video has really helped me see how to use both of them. Thank you!
This is an excellent lesson. I learned a lot, and the Rainbow color wheel will help me so much. I usually end up with a color in the wrong hue compared to the rest of the picture, but with the Rainbow wheel and using 2's, 3's etc, I think my pictures will turn out much better. Thank you.
I have been struggling with my color choices when coloring. I just want to tell you that your demonstration of this little color wheel was extremely helpful with this issue. Your explanation and demonstration of colors really answered my questions! I am looking forward to receiving it as I immediately ordered it after watching your video!! Thank you so much for sharing this very informative video!!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I needed this soooo much! Thank you so very much for sharing and explaining this for us. I remember the art teacher touching base with this but i never truly understood it and this makes it so much easier! I will definitely be getting these!
Awesome!! If you're subscribed, I'll be starting a "course" in just a few days! We're going to learn some really neat basics for making your pages really pop! The first "lesson" will be all about Color Theory, and we're going to talk about the color wheel again, discuss some different terminology, talk about warm vs. cool colors in more depth, and more! Later, we'll talk about some of the different ways to add shadows and highlights, where to put them, how to make things look realistic and 3D.. there's a LOT on my agenda so stick around!
Great video as well thanks you demystified and clarified the color wheel I finally get it after seeing a few tutorials on youtube and they didn't know how to explain the complementary colors on the back very well it sounded abstract and the other shapes for complementary colors.I ordered the color wheel already waiting to receive it but wanted to know how it works and you did that .Thanks!!!

Yay!! So happy to have stumbled upon your VERY helpful video on color theory and the use of color wheels. I often just stare at a coloring page...not having a clue where to begin with my color selections! You did a great job of summarizing what could be a very complicated subject into an easily understandable concept for those of us who have not had any formal art training. Thank you so much, Erin! Amazon, here I come...again!!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I've had a color wheel in my cart on Amazon for a long time. I was never sure exactly what kind I should get, or more importantly, how to use one if I bought it. Your explanation was to easy to understand. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you soooooo much for combining information with visual information. And how many time have I started something with two colors and didn't have a clue where to go next. What helpful information in this video! I have started following you and getting ready to watch your series on prismacolor premier pencils.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You explained so well. I really really appreciate you. If I had to watch another non-helpful video, I was gonna go crazy! Finally! I added to my favorites!
Great color wheel tutorial Erin, I have the large one and have used it a lot, but, I have to really thank you for the Rainbow wheel, that one is fabulous. TYFS.
Great explanation of the color wheel! I have the Rainbow color wheel as well and I love it. I like how I can set it down on my work and match the colors through the little cutout on the wheel. Very handy! Thanks for explaining everything. It can get confusing if you've never used one before! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I knew about color wheels and looked some up before but never came across the Rainbow Color Selector. I am so glad that you introduced me to it and they also sell it at my German Amazon :-)
Perfect Information. Thank you so much for Sharing this Video with us. I ordered my Copy of the dritz colorwheel and have another one. Dritz is available in Amazon.de too. Oh Yes 😁. Thanks a lot and greetings from austria
Thanks so much for the simple instruction on how to use this wheel I bought recently. I am glad to be a subscriber and gave this vid a "LIKE" Have a nice holiday season.
I consider myself a colorist too. I love everything about it. I love color theory too and meanings in different situations. I will do a picture and show you how I do with using Crayola and Crazy Art together. I hope you like it. If you do, it is my gift 🎁 to you
Just need this info...are color wheels still used for color selection...please don't get me wrong...i just wanted to know..what with adobe colors and all that
Ooookay! Hahahahaha! Sorry saw an ad for Art Classes online just before your video. Isn't that a hoot? Having an icky day as I had a bad adverse reaction to Amoxicillin AGAIN! Only this time I stopped before everything that got me a trip to the hospital. So yeah have to stop taking them. I loved this video as I knew the basics of the Colour Wheel but never to this extent or how to actually properly use it. Thank you.
Hi, I have a colour wheel and it seems to be hard to understand it when I read the Instructions on it. Listening to you, you make it easy to understand it. I am new to painting and I can picture something in my mind, but to put in colours, I am totally messed up man. When you were talking about Complementary, Triad, and Tetrad. I'm still trying to get it can you please do the explanation easy for me.
Just got one of these but I really don't understand how a complementary colour is on the opposite side of the wheel and is therefore very contrasting. To me complementary means that they go well together, the complement one another and contrasting colours don't. I love contrasting colours but to me that's what they are, they are the opposite than complementary!
I’ve been trying it use the colour wheel for a while now and my coloured pages still look like a jumble of colours. I tried to reduce the number of colours to improve that, to no avail. It probably has something to do with the amount of times I use each of the colours, as even if the colours work together, not all of them can be used in the same proportion over the page, to avoid this jumble effect. I’m still working on this but until I “get it”, my pages look dreadful.
I recommend you the video "Understanding color" by Blender Guru. He explains a bit this, showing examples of color compositions. Or "How to Choose Colours that Work!" by Sycra, who also explains proportions. Basically just because the color wheel tells you that Blue, Purple, Yellow and Orange go well together doesn't mean that they will go well if you use them in the same proportion. You have to choose one principal color and the rest will be to add details in less percentage
Loati thank you, I’ve already watched Blender Guru’s video on colour but haven’t heard of Sycra before, I’ve now subscribed. Thank you again for your help.
@@loati94 WOW, I really needed these two videos that you suggested. Along with the one you made, I think I am finally grasping this whole color thing. I am going to start some new work so I can practice what I learned. Thank you a million times over!
Thanks for another informative video. Have the rainbow wheel and you helped me learn more about using it. Also I sent in request to join your facebook group, however, it's in my hubby's name: Deano (Gregory) Francis, as I don't have a facebook acct. Also saw another simple art for adults facebook acct. Is that yours also? Thanks for all you do! GInny
I have never had anyone describe the use of the color wheel as well as you just did. Thank you for this amazing tutorial.
