    Baby soap/water and a spray bottle works for this too. Try to find a baby soap that is fragrance free and spray that buddy down. It will slide in much easier. Don’t use oil as it may react with the seal and will never go away. We use the same soap for tint work too. Just don’t get it near leather...
    Just got a ‘72 cj5 that was missing it’s windshield completely. Thanks for telling me about rock auto; didn’t know about it. Google failed me!

    Good video,thanks - once i figure out how to get the adjusting plates back in place,then ill install my windshield - might have to cut out the corners on the inside just to reach in with my fingers or a tool to get the plates in place so i can get the bolts in for the brackets

      These frame are badly made and pieces of crap - my inner adjusting bracket had fallen off and i had to cut large holes in the backside corners to get them back in place - mine also arrived dented like yours and all the sticky foam glue took FOREVER to remove - and trying to get the windshield seal in is a real problem

    I've never seen anyone drill a hole like that. You must go thru a ton of drill bits. Bro, are you an IT guy or something? Because you should never drill a hole in anything like that again.
    You definitely should pay someone to do your work and watch them and their technics for cutting steel.
    I do appreciate the effort that you made and for posting this. Please don't put a lot of stock in this comment. I've been accused of being OCD. So, in short.... Good that you're learning and you will improve a lot if you keep working it.
    It's all just $$$$. But the experience is priceless.

      Thanks for the info. I get free drill bits and know how to sharpen them so they don't matter much to me. Glad you enjoyed the video and found it entertaining and not too stressful. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video! Is the seal water tight? The Jeep CJ factory shop manual recommends using a 3M sealer in the flange cavity of the rubber seal, and working silicone grease between the glass and rubber. They tell you to use a wood or fiber wand to pry the lip of the seal...sounds like I'd break it doing it that way. Rope sounds easier, but would not work with the sealer, I'd think. Years ago I had a glass shop install a windshield in my stainless bodied jeep and it leaked. They reused the old seal but i didn't care as the windshield frame and tub can't rust. I did eventually use silicone around it. I'm planning to install a glass and seal in a new frame on another CJ7. My dad replaced the rusted out OEM frame with a Taiwan one, it is rotted out, so I was unable to get any more stainless ones so I bought a couple MD Juan ones when I visited the factory in the Philippines a couple years ago. Hoping the quality is slightly better but there were no defrost holes in these frames, had to cut my own. also, pins on the oem door hinges don't fit the upper door hinge portion of the MD Juan windshield hinges I bought. Cost as much to ship the windshield frames home as I paid for them, lol! I've heard some aftermarket seals are too thick. The one I got off Amazon is stiffer than the original.

    We are trying to do a '73 CJ5 right now.... but the rubber is too stiff to make the corners. THIS SUCKS !!! I am going to put the rubber in the Oven for a few minutes and see if that helps.

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      good luck with it. the heat should make the rubber more pliable.

      Hi there ! ... I have the same issue ... at the workshop they gave up doing it .... I don't know what to do, did you heat the seal ? How did it go ? it works ? .... any suggestion ? Thanks dude...

      @@fango4x4 OK....did it by hand. Used Micro Mist to lube it up a little....sore fingers but got it in. Don't forget to put your little rubber grommet in it as well so the Windshield expands out. Otherwise windshield will blow out when you are on the highway. Used Micro Mist again and it went right in, but sore fingers again too.
      Good luck

      @@fango4x4 you don't have to heat the rubbber..... just start in the middle of one side and start pushing in with your fingers. Then put the windshield in and start. Lube helps alot. then put your rubber grommet in with lube and you are set

    you must have bought that piece of crap from the same place i got mine - arrived dented in the same place as yours and also now my adjustable inner plates have both fallen down inside the windshield frame - i dont know what to do to get them in place even if possible - what held them in place before

    • @MaxAC
      @MaxAC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I can tell probably some metal tabs would hold those plates in place. good luck with that. I am not impressed with the quality at all however the poor quality saved me some money so Im not complaining too much . But it was a lot of extra work to prep for install.

    • @SAXONWARLORD1000AD
      @SAXONWARLORD1000AD 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MaxAC yeah,i cut out the double walled lnside corners to reveal 2 bent tabs which hold the adjustment plate and stop it from moving side to side too much and 2 other fixed stops to prevent too much up and down movement,the problem was the 2 bent tabs were'nt bent enough to hold the plate in place,so i put the plates back in position and pushed the tabs down tighter,now it appears to be good,i just have 2 good size triangle access holes inside but no big deal,doesnt affect the integrity of the frame
