As a boy, I was inspired by the song, 'April in Paris'. I found it to be so romantic. Fast forward to April, 1982. I'm in the military stationed at NATO HQ with my family in Belgium. On April 24th my wife and I went to Paris. Taking the Paris ring road we parked underground, under the Arch de Triumph, and walked EVERYWHERE. The Arch, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Napoleons Tomb, and of course the Cathedral. We then took the opportunity to explore ruins that had been discovered UNDER the Cathedral, too. AMAZING! But for me, by far the best.... We were walking hand-in-hand together next to the Seine. We had just finished lunch at a curbside market. As we walked, I reached up and plucked a blossom from a tree and put it in her hair, and kissed her passionately. It was Paris. It was April. I was with the love of my life. April in Paris...JUST LIKE THE SONG. 😉🥰🤗
I was lucky enough to be able to take a trip to Paris in late 2018, visiting Notre-Dame mere months before the fire….and even after all these years I still consider myself blessed for having had the chance. 💕
Same. I was able to see it in 2000. We were in a group with our Bishop. I was able to get in the ambulatory behind the main altar, which I think was closed off but didn't really notice.
I visited literally 10 days before the fire!! My friends joke I started the fire myself!!

The bells of Notre Dame de Paris rang for the first time post fire July 26,2024 during the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics
The three hooded spirits are 100% old one cultists.
I already left a comment but my phone won't let me edit it. So first "jesus magic" I laughed so hard at that. Also what is it with humans leaving, losing, and forgetting big stone heads all over the place? Easter island, mayan heads, presidents heads, the heads from the cathedral you just mentioned...we humans are a strange bunch lol
Oh ok phone I can edit this one and not the other sigh I need a new phone 🙃
What about the fact it was never actually completed? Two main towers were suppose to have spires that were never built!
"You don't go to Notre Dame to learn something; you go to Notre Dame to be somebody."
-- Lou Holtz
Much appreciated from both the author and presentation. The historical summary and timeline are impressive!
Yes. Across the board labors skills have deteriorated and sloppy workmanship is universal from construction to engineering to sandwich making. 😢
Love to learn from you guys❤❤❤
Hope you learned something new!
Thanks.
You're welcome
Victor Hugo's Novel 1831 The Hunchback Of Notre Dame The 1996 Disney Version
I have no problem with you guys doing ad reads just maybe a little buffer or intro to it would be cool. Was a bit of a jarring cut to on this one lol otherwise loved the video learned quite a bit of new things 😄 thanks for the new knowledge in a fun way with an excellent host!
It would be odd if netflix locked the US version of "The Office) to the UK beings the original office came from the UK made in the UK. I dont mind ads like this as you can skip past them if you want too (I usually dont if they are well done so they get their sponsers happy as I like geographics. And I like this host but didn't Simon do this channel?
@@mikeyoung9810 long story short Simon had falling out with this channels owner and they parted ways nothing super serious just some poor management during a difficult time so he just does his own channels now. His many many channels lol
17:39 That zoom. I’m dyinnnnnnnng 🤣
This was fascinating - thank you!
I marked a major bucket list item 10 years ago when I visited Paris and saw Notre Dame. I hope to visit Paris at least once more and to see the cathedral again.
One challenge to the reconstruction would have been the dearth of old-growth forests in modern France. The massive trees that were felled for the initial construction simply no longer exist. If the architects were able to use smaller, younger trees to replace the lost timbers, that was a major accomplishment.
Last comment: your French pronunciations are terrible. But we appreciate the effort.
The timing was extremely suspicious especially when the large numbers of other churches being torched in France at the time is considered.
You did pretty well with the French accent, but do remember that the French do not pronounce the final e on words unless it has an accent mark. Specifically, Ile de la Cite' is pronounced more like "eel de la SEE-tay."
The laser mapping survey was done just a few short years before the fire and were a wonderful tool for the cathedral's restoration. BTW, you don't pronounce the final "e" in French, so "ile" is just pronounced "eel" and not "eela".
Though I don't place any faith in "relics" myself, not the best look with "Jesus magic" since nearly ⅓ of the planet claim to follow/believe in him...
Free Speech and all that yes. Go for it. But knowledge is important and this risks driving off some who could definitely use more knowledge...
I'm Catholic, and a priest who is a friend of my family says there are churches all over Europe claiming to have artifacts like these, but none are verified. So even we don't take it at face value. There are some interesting and very old objects, though.
In Aachen Cathedral there is 'the' flagelation belt worn by jesus when he was walking to the cross. It has blood stains on it.
So my suggestion is to take the blood stains a d use rhe DNA to clone jesus. If they make several each flavour of christianity can have their own messiah.
Free speech is important as long as it's respectful to the beliefs of large segments of the population. If you have a popular channel and don't care about this you sort of set yourselves up to having viewers not care either about clicking on your videos.
@@mikeyoung9810 Free speech does not have to be respectful of people's beliefs, otherwise it is not free.
People and channels can choose to be respectful or not. But if your religion or beliefs are too weak to take criticism or jokes, that shows how intolerant and poor it is.
FYI: You don't pronounce the final E in Philippe. Bur very interesting video 😊
Ishmael is the broom that Jacob uses to sweep away Esau/Edom.
The West will not long stand victim to Tikkun Olam.
No, Ishmael is Jacob's uncle. 😂
I'm sure it's been said before, but it bears repeating. Somewhere in Europe, the guy whose cigarette it was that started the 2019 fire knows for a fact that it was his cigarette. Obviously there's no way to know if he feels guilty. What I do know is that he is a very smart laborer, because if he ever came forward with that information, well, you see what the french do to their leaders if they don't like them 😄😄😊
Love it! What an amazing place!
Hey this isnt simon
Title imcomplete guys
Fixed.
Bring back whistle boi
Nice video, oh and 'Île' is pronounced like 'eel'
Wait you’re doing this channel now nice, I missed Science Get
Sorry, script sounds like chat Gpt
Hey so "Jesus magic" ... you all probably think that's funny, but some would consider mocking millions of people's religion pretty shitty.
Christianity ✝️ is the only Theology wherein, as opposed to you doing something for god, it is a relationship based upon what God has done for you. Many of the various‘flavors’ in ‘Christianson’ either omit or add to Scripture: among the enemies of ‘The Church’ were Christians (non Catholic)
Sorry, still don't like Eric
P.I.A. is initials, not a word 👎
It's 'buhk-ing-uh m' NOT buck-ing-ham. As for the rest of your pronunciation, you get 3 out of 10 at most.
Sorry got half way through and couldn't cope with the rest, as per another commenter P.I.A. is an initialism not an acronym. Present another video and I unsubscribe, probably along with many others.
Bye.
Good job you never watched the previous main host, he would have really triggered you.
