If these people can get around 700 even after 15 years without using them, then they could get almost full score if they were in high school for sure. It is certainly misleading using this score to represent Chinese students.

I think this is because maybe they study almost everyday? I think their childhood filled with cram schools and stuff, so they like carved the formulas hard into their brain LOL.
These people are not high school students. They have forgotten some stuff. Even then, the 670 average is a lot higher than the national average of 528 as you have claimed. This is more than 1 standard deviation from the mean, and almost 2 standard deviations. I would think this concludes that Chinese people are on average, good in SAT Maths, instead of looking at a fixed cut-off score of 700 and concluding that they are not that good.

6:22 Are you sure this is the SAT level? For most of the problems, I can just calculate in mind without using pen and paper. For example, the P36, this is just the problem of calculating the root for Y**2 + 4Y + 4 = 0. So Y is -2, and then x is 3.
Try the Singapore A levels H2 paper set in line with Cambridge, or Math papers from top junior colleges (E.g Hwachong) in Singapore. They'd be in for a treat.
SAT 根本不能跟中国高考相同并论,SAT 是考美国高中必须学的Algebra II 考(也就是最低要求)因为每个人的数学可以在不同程度,而中国大家学的都一样,难度自然而然可以比较高。而且现在大多数美国高中学生在高中都学到calculus,可是这个不概括在SAT 里面,只有AP 或 SAT II 考的到。

I m a Singaporean Chinese n I hold a Bachelor Degree in Economics from University of London. My Gweilo lecturer has said “The Asians have done embarrassing well in the Maths paper”. Not surprising, I done A-Maths to 3 years of engineering mathematics b4: Calculus is fun, determinants vs matrices, conditional probabilities to Bayes Probabilities r mind intriguing. Hmmmmn ~ 🙌 I m 63, I still can remember C^2=A^2+B^2-2ABcosC, law of inertia, definition of Force, Principle of Flotation, Boyles/Charles Law n 3 principles of lever. I m just “grilled” in Maths,Science n English.

Why did y'all take that SAT in Shanghai? Also it can be deceptive, there's a reason the girl got a 780 and the guy a 700 even though they are both perfectly capable of 800. Very easy to make simple, stupid mistakes that end up being quite punishing. Here in the US middle schoolers do learn a good amount of algebra so it isn't tremendously different from our own harder middle school math tests tbh, but it depends on your exact school and whether you were in an honor's class or something
@@HuckleberryHim taking SAT=applying for colleges in the US; No, even if you make stupid mistakes you won’t go all the way down to like 700. We are/were mature high schoolers, not kindergarteners. That’s why our average was 780+. You need to pay extra attention on your basic math fundamentals if you really score below that. There are indeed many good local students that do really/extremely well in terms of math or STEM. But in general, as I’ve been teaching in a US top4 STEM university, and a good amount of the local students do not have good fundamentals in math and sciences, which is barely the case among international students (especially Chinese high school graduates imo). Not trying to belittle anyone, as local students outperforms us in many other aspects. But just for this specific topic, it is just the case.
@@yerong1223 You absolutely will, that's why the guy in the video, who is Chinese and was educated in China (and just graduated from a prestigious university (not high school) last year, and got a 130+ on the GaoKao.......), scored 700. I was a year out of HS when I took it and I thought I got 100% on the math because it was easy but I got a 730. I have no idea what I got wrong but it's those slight things you overlook that get you, the weird grading system makes it incredibly easy to lose points from 800. It could be that attention to detail is more drilled into the average Chinese student via the education system of China (although I don't know if every single Chinese kid gets that same education, though I know it's a lot). But that really isn't a great indicator of mathematical ability. It is of course very important not to make mistakes when solving problems or writing proofs etc, but it feels less reflective of overall acumen than actually understanding the concepts, the logic, and executing the right steps (which is why partial credit is a thing). Of course Chinese students far outperform American students in math. No one can debate that. It is just a matter of educational policy and priorities though, Americans could do the same if this country started to value these things more.
@@HuckleberryHim I don’t know any friend who made mistakes and got below 780 tbh. I made mistakes too, but we all got 790-800 since there’s a tolerance in grading system that allows you make small mistakes occasionally and still score 800. I have absolutely no idea what the guy in the video was doing, may just be an exception lmao. I don’t think its because we care more on the details-it is just too easy to make mistake honestly. Only mistake I can imagine is to get confused with some wordings, I guess? The fundamentals we’ve been practicing about the concepts, the logics, the methodologies, and etc. just allow us to not making mistakes. If you would like to experience what I meant, feel free to look up a GaoKao test and try it - it is another world. I do agree on the education system part, and that is also why institutions in the US are attracting an overwhelming amount of scholars from all over the world.
The probably with SAT is that they mostly have multiple choice questions, which is different from math courses we take in school. Most formatives and summative in school are not based on multiple choice questions. More logical thinking and the ability to observe the pattern are needed.
Which group of people can learn Chinese in Chinese and which group of people better learn Chinese in English. I remember there was an English learning program called " Follow Me" when I was growing up, it had a Chinese host and a British host.

SAT數學的難度相當於台灣國中生1,2年級的程度,
大學生畢業的時候,差不多有10幾年沒碰,尤其很多人大學專業沒有選數學。這不是很公平的選擇。

SAT數學有分基本級,和專項版。

应该找高中生来考,众所周知,中国非数学专业的学生,数学做题能力的峰值水平在高三。应该拿大学都毕业很多年的美国学生跟大学毕业很多年的美国学生比、中国高三学生和美国高三(四)学生比,这样才算公平。

我家小朋友数学不错,才八年级,SAT就可以考700分以上。最近做了深国交(深圳国际学校)的(同级)入学考试题,一道也不会做。哭的很痛。
我知道高考比台灣的難很多,但就這份考卷,我覺得台灣的高中生來做也覺得很簡單

剛剛看了其中兩條multiple choice題目 (發現都很簡單,都能10~15秒內心算出來,現在才知道SAT的試題這麼簡單。記得38年前剛念高中的時候,考試題目比這些艱深。
剛剛再多看兩題,發現只有香港的初中程度,而且初中的試題都比他們的深,我念中二的兒子的試題都比這些複雜。

作为SAT老师吧,我觉得可能刚上手会有一些问题,和我们的方式不一样,主要还是思维为主。成年读过大学的,稍微训练一下,基本不会低于750.留美的孩子如果不到800,学生会想死的。基本初三,偶尔高一水平的考试。SAT目前比较难的就是词汇而已。其他语法阅读越来越简单了。
SAT非常簡單,大多數有在唸書的華人都可以考高分甚至滿分. 我一個同學在台灣排中等,去考SAT滿分
但最后世界伟大的数学家中国人大概也就几个邱成桐,有趣么?中国人sat很高,但最后人才寥寥

来我们大河北体验一下。10年前全国一卷的水平现在的题太简单了。我感觉就数学而言你们80%都达不到及格分数线。如果你学的理综我觉得90%都上不了本科。

這些是基本的應用數學,亞洲人成績較好是因為學習階段大量的練習,所以在基本理論及反應上強過一般西方人。但是談到高深數學人才,如物理或天文方面的分析,優勢便不是那麼明顯了。

@@tcdwu 哦哦,这个是暂时现象的,西方好多高手都是年纪大的,他们的成就是建立在国家经济实力保证下的良好教育上的,上次科学声音这个号的主讲人说了,我国的诺奖的爆发期大概在2035年左右,那个时候教育普及就该开花结果了,同理数学那个时候会有一些成就,不过, 我国在数学上的培养确实力度不如物理化学这些。另外歪个楼,你有没有发现中国的运动员颜值越来越高了, 这个也是经济好了,营养和保养跟上累计到现在导致,这个会比较体现,毕竟长大到运动员只要20年。

对普通中国人来说,英文数学题题本身其实不是难点,题干读不懂才是难点(来自一个被选修数学课题目整疯的人)

I m 63, I still can remember C^2=A^2+B^2-2ABcosC, law of inertia, definition of Force, Principle of Flotation, Boyles/Charles Law n 3 principles of lever. I m just “grilled” in Maths,Science n English.
Bruh I’m from a below average high school in Shanghai but our average SAT math score was 780+ from hundreds of students smh. This college exam is much easier than our midterms back in junior high ong 😂😂 stop playing with me with da 670 average lmao
Why did y'all take that SAT in Shanghai? Also it can be deceptive, there's a reason the girl got a 780 and the guy a 700 even though they are both perfectly capable of 800. Very easy to make simple, stupid mistakes that end up being quite punishing.
Here in the US middle schoolers do learn a good amount of algebra so it isn't tremendously different from our own harder middle school math tests tbh, but it depends on your exact school and whether you were in an honor's class or something

No, even if you make stupid mistakes you won’t go all the way down to like 700. We are/were mature high schoolers, not kindergarteners. That’s why our average was 780+. You need to pay extra attention on your basic math fundamentals if you really score below that.
There are indeed many good local students that do really/extremely well in terms of math or STEM. But in general, as I’ve been teaching in a US top4 STEM university, and a good amount of the local students do not have good fundamentals in math and sciences, which is barely the case among international students (especially Chinese high school graduates imo). Not trying to belittle anyone, as local students outperforms us in many other aspects. But just for this specific topic, it is just the case.
@@yerong1223 You absolutely will, that's why the guy in the video, who is Chinese and was educated in China (and just graduated from a prestigious university (not high school) last year, and got a 130+ on the GaoKao.......), scored 700. I was a year out of HS when I took it and I thought I got 100% on the math because it was easy but I got a 730. I have no idea what I got wrong but it's those slight things you overlook that get you, the weird grading system makes it incredibly easy to lose points from 800.
It could be that attention to detail is more drilled into the average Chinese student via the education system of China (although I don't know if every single Chinese kid gets that same education, though I know it's a lot). But that really isn't a great indicator of mathematical ability. It is of course very important not to make mistakes when solving problems or writing proofs etc, but it feels less reflective of overall acumen than actually understanding the concepts, the logic, and executing the right steps (which is why partial credit is a thing).
Of course Chinese students far outperform American students in math. No one can debate that. It is just a matter of educational policy and priorities though, Americans could do the same if this country started to value these things more.
@@HuckleberryHim I don’t know any friend who made mistakes and got below 780 tbh. I made mistakes too, but we all got 790-800 since there’s a tolerance in grading system that allows you make small mistakes occasionally and still score 800.

I don’t think its because we care more on the details-it is just too easy to make mistake honestly. Only mistake I can imagine is to get confused with some wordings, I guess? The fundamentals we’ve been practicing about the concepts, the logics, the methodologies, and etc. just allow us to not making mistakes. If you would like to experience what I meant, feel free to look up a GaoKao test and try it - it is another world.
I do agree on the education system part, and that is also why institutions in the US are attracting an overwhelming amount of scholars from all over the world.

中国应试能力肯定是没得说的,不过大部分学生在高中甚至初中已经过早透支掉了学习能力和学习的热情。
以我學習經驗,不是透支,是學習方法錯誤,沒切中方法,所以提不起興趣
我就是上初中来的美国。当我高中毕业我都才感觉我的数学刚刚跟我初中学的差不多。当然我初中没学几何。但是几何那玩意把公式记住了就没啥了
The probably with SAT is that they mostly have multiple choice questions, which is different from math courses we take in school. Most formatives and summative in school are not based on multiple choice questions. More logical thinking and the ability to observe the pattern are needed.

SAT在美国大学录取里占比不是像中国高考那样是100%,估计只有30-40%吧。其他的像GPA,推荐信,essay,课外经历也很重要,国际生还有语言成绩要求

沒有,其實真的大部分都是台灣的國中範圍,還是出的偏比較基礎的,我自己就是教數學的。
大四上学期寒假,一个同学在家乡城市的一所省重点高中应聘数学教师。校方为了测试他的数学能力,拿了一份高考模拟试卷给我同学和高三年的学生一起做。
试卷时间2小时,但考试时间只给1小时。我同学1小时之内完成,满分。所有高三学生没有一个能在1个小时内完成,最后只有2,3个及格。
我佩服得五体投地,因为我自己确实属于高考之后一年让我再考一次高考数学根本考不及格的那种,公式,定理大多数都已经想不起来了🤣

可以这么理解,西方人会把很多那些国内高中的课程放到大学里,所以为什么说在国外上大学难,在国内上高中难,很多人国内辛苦上了高中,到国外留学,发现学习的还是类似的东西,所以极度崩溃,还有就是国内很多大学的课程更像是搞形式主义的学术研究。我就想说绝大多数的大学课程在现实中实用性并不大,起码2000年以前是这样
我跟着娃开始了解美国数学的教学理念,我个人觉得还是很不错的。就教材而言还是喜欢美国式的,真的是引导你去理解数学架构本身而不是死记和过于练题。国内上过初高中的,很多高分基本就是操练题出来的,当然极少数天才不在此类。
@@lifeofalexis8509 數理科前半部要靠理解,推導公式,證明定理,這極大部分要靠老師帶or參考書要寫得好,後半部就是練習解題,這要靠用功,可見老師師資質不行

@@jason34007 新加坡真的..蛮难的,新加坡的中学比中国的要难一些。我在国内是在一所全国前十的中学读书,来新加坡后继续中学学习,新加坡的中学教育比中国稍微教的要更广一些。高中的话学的会更精,但要想考好大学确实比国内容易,主要看考什么专业了

没有一直盯着字幕,偶尔看到的字幕发现两个小错,一个是数学术语翻译,此复数非彼复数,it's complex rather than plural,一个是8x=16(英文字幕打成了26),再一个考题里面,i应该是√-1,以及那位拒绝计算器却算错数的男同学,那就是二元一次方程组,不是鸡兔同笼啊喂,最后建议再做一个企划,找初高中在读生来做,尤其初中要是600+就很有意思了

@@hhaa7907 linear regression 这单词很熟悉 ,calculo 和algebra肯定是基础 我们第一年就这几门课 微积分 algebra geometry ,math analisis 我也不知道英文是不是叫这 毕竟我不是英语国家. 但是这些跟大学数学真没什么关系 就好像你会背唐诗总不能说中文专业的就背得比较好吧… 我们都被拓扑学 各种分析虐的死去活来了….基本我觉得一个数学系毕业的 做得出高中考卷 只是这个人记忆力比较好而已. 我反正觉得数学第一年跟噩梦似的就是因为基本上就是希腊哲学体系下的各种验证axiom 根本就不是高中知识的下一阶段 他是直接给你另外开哲学课
@@calatravas2664 国外并不是,国外是大一大二基础数学,大三大四选择分支,比如statistics,偏微分方程,real analysis这种。大学里的确用不到高中那种知识,但我觉得数学主要是给我培养的是一个思维模式,这个东西对于文科生来说是学不到的。还有就是你单纯的去看看SAt这种题目,根本运用不到国内高中知识,too easy了
@@hhaa7907 问题是你把自己高中知识拿掉纯运用大学数学根本就不可能比一个高中生死记硬背那几个方程式来的快速解题,这就好比我记得以前看到的一个笑话,一个数学系回家买菜钱被找错了,他妈说他大学4年数学白学了. 而且你这回答有点鸡头牛尾的…你这科普还错了,至少欧洲数学 大一是全基础,大二分为必修和 基础 至少我们大四才可以选修和加一个TFM
