Actual Referee here, couple of corrections on the calls made by you guys. @ 3:00 where banks removes the helmet off his opponent is actually a Gross Misconduct (Canada) / Game misconduct (USA), @8:40 is actually considered fighting because the player removed his gloves Per (USA Hockey) Fighting Major/Game Misconduct as well since the player was the aggressor with his gloves off as defined by instigator rule ( Hockey Canada) which is a Game misconduct.
Ya’ll need to do calls for the second and third movie. Even as a non-hockey player I always thought there were so many horrible calls or missed calls. This was awesome.
Just as a heads up, the blue yetis condensors are at the middle of the microphone, not the top. You should be talking towards the blue logo at the front and cardioid pattern (the third one that looks like a heart) is the best one for audio quality. It'll make you sound considerably less echoe than you are currently and the audio quality will drasticly improve
you fellas gotta remember, this movie came out in 1992. That is well into the era of the "clutch & grab" with a lot of "getting in the way to slow an opponent down" not being an interference call. Pick plays were essentially allowed back then, at least they never got called. While I respect your calls here, you are all thinking in the mindset that they are being reffed with 2020 rulings and not 1992. Great video idea though! love it!
I love how in the early games, they give Bombay this very warning for his kids diving, but not the Hawks for smashing players all over the ice without the puck lol
This was hilarious. You guys NEED to do the other Might Ducks movies. I can't wait to see what you do with the scene in D2 when Dwayne lassos a kid during a game (I believe the on-ice call was "two minutes for roping").
EVERYONE even Duchene knew he was offsides, however he did what he was supposed to and finished the play.... the refs screwed the pooch by not reversing that call.
I hate that expression: "You don't want to decide a game", as if the ref making a correct decision is wrong if it's clutch. BUT, not making the right call at that point IS however deciding the game, in the favor of the side at fault.
In D2, Julie got ejected from the game for pushing two Iceland players and the refs deemed it intent to injure, ok whatever... But after that, Sanderson from Iceland LITERALLY wacked and broke is stick over Adam Bank’s arm and he got 2 minutes for that. Like COME ON!!!
Having watched hockey religiously for the last twenty decades thanks to the Mighty Ducks movies, I can now say that the editing was cringeworthy and had a lot of continuity problems.
Last Month NHL Network had Game 4 of the 92 finals and I was getting mad at a game from 28 years ago for calls not being made. Holding the stick of a player in front of the net for over 5 seconds before a pass went his way and couldn't get a shot off. I hit rewind and counted the seconds. It would probably cause riots now if they let over 10 blatant penalties a game go.
Before the 2000s and the dead puck era, going on for too long, the refs were more lax on calling the obstruction penalties (tripping, hooking, etc) but interference as blatant as some of those would have been called in any era, even in the 3rd period of game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals.
I'm going to say no because she's not stopping gameplay. People can choose to just ignore her. Now if she horded the pick and spun or spun and hit it off the ice, probably.
They missed the Hawks goalie, who had an illegal cateye mask (not legal at this age). Also, the crosscheck on the breakaway couldn't be a two minute (as they give in the film) because he scored (negates the penalty). Unless he called a 2 for crosscheck and 2 for unsportsmanlike (so only 1 penalty would be wiped out, thus he serves one).
*Ducks, throwing footballs in pre-game warmups* Other coach: "come on, ref, this is ridiculous!" (there, I just opened the door for Wolf "The Dentist" in D2)
3:34 i first saw this movie at a friend's house when i was 10. I remember yelling at the TV when Conway gets boarded by Banks, right in front of the refs. Even as an American kid who knew next to zero about hockey, i knew it was BS that Banks didn't get penalized for it. I didn't even feel bad for Banks when he got stretchered towards the end of the movie. 😂
This is what i think an SHL (swedish hockey league) ref would call (i have not seen the movie so i don't know the names of the teams): I'm not a ref or player, just a fan, so please object if you see anything inaccurate. I did not specify who should be penalized in the cases where i think it's obvious. 2:34 2+10 checking to the head. (if you look carefully you will see shoulder to head contact) 3:01 minor roughing 3:13 black 11: minor slashing The hit by black 7: clean hit 3:38 5+GM Checking from behind/boarding+ bench minor unsportsmanlike 4:26 minor interference on alot of players(red 99,red 18*2,yellow(i can't see the number) )+ yellow 7 minor tripping. PP for yellow 4:58 yellow 15 minor interference (nullified by the goal) 5:20 5+GM crosschecking ( in the SHL, a cross check to the face is an almost automatic ejection) 5:58 Match penalty head butting: if you look carefull you will see that his head makes contact with the opponent and it looks like that contact was deliberate. Head butting or attempting to head butt is an automatic match penalty in Sweden. 6:20 5+GM checking to the head 6:30 minor tripping 6:50 5+GM Crosschecking/Checking from behind 7:36 coach:Match penalty unsportsmanlike 7:57 minor interference 8:20 2+2+10 butt ending. (i don't think the stick made contact and according to Swedish rules attempted butt ending carries a double minor+10 minute misconduct ) 8:39 match penalty unsportsmanlike (in Sweden you can't eject someone for roughing and it's not fighting but it's intent to injure) 9:04 of course that's alot of interference and it's a 4 minute 5 on 3 for the black team 9:50 Penalty shot hooking 10:10 minor illegal equipment
Holy shit this came at the perfect time with HBO. SO MANY skaters on the bench getting face time when the next cut they're magically on the ice somehow. And they keep switching RH/LH skaters
Do a partner w/ fans quiz. So you’d have Luca, Corwin, and Jesse probably all with fans. This would be easier to do because of zoom. You’d have to have every duo have a private chat to discuss the answer and then one player would hold up a whiteboard with their teams answer
when are you guys doing a Miracle On Ice quiz? i know it’s USA but it’s one of the greatest hockey movies/moments ever and i think you guys should do it!
This made my day! Loved it! I was curious about the penalties from the other teams the Ducks played against, like their constant dives to the Jets in their 2nd game as District 5. Another big question I have- the Hawks and Ducks are tied 5 to 5 at the end of the championship game when Charlie gets awarded a penalty shot. Why does the film make it seem like if Charlie would have missed the penalty shot, the Hawks would have won the championship? Like, how do you say "The Hawks defeated the Ducks 5 to 5 that year" ? Charlie should not have to risk being pressured for missing a penalty shot that would sustain the tie...
The Blue Yeti is a side address, not a top address, mic. You're gonna wanna stand that up (and switch it to the little heart symbol, as the setting you've got it on is both front and back audio).

We’re long overdue for some new hockey movies (especially hockey comedies) 25 years since the Original Mighty Ducks Movie.
Fun fact: in USA hockey you have to give the coach a warning before assessing a bench minor to the coach.
I love how in the early games, they give Bombay this very warning for his kids diving, but not the Hawks for smashing players all over the ice without the puck lol
In this case I'd say the warning comes when Riley pops his collar.
You guys gotta do more movies, absolutely love it
The best part is the occasional Wes McCaughley cameo
A) That's not how you spell Wes McCauley's name
B) That's not Wes McCauley

It’s so funny how passionate they are about this movie
9:46 I don't know Luca, you're an Avs fan, you've certainly seen the goal Duchene scored after coming in a country mile offsides, right?

@@chrisdietrich8944 Yeah dude. I can't stand Douchene, but to say he's at fault like people were doing is just silly. That was all on the linesman.

You got to remember with the first one that clip takes place in the 70s. So it was a little different back then.
5:23 is just Joe Pavelski in Game 7 vs Vegas last year

With the age of the movie, at the time, those interference calls were not called in the NHL lol
