Kudos on doing a lot of this work yourselves. There is no better way to learn about how your sailboat is put together than doing much of the work yourself. When you get further out afield you are going to have a tougher time finding qualified marine services and you will need to know as much as you possibly can to not just keep from getting ripped off, but to keep from getting dangerous "repairs" done which could literally put your lives in jeopardy. Jason, Just a wayward comment or two:- @ 13:55 you are installing a diaphragm pump. While they can be mounted anywhere, when mounting vertical, ALL the manufacturers recommend mounting with the pump head down to avoid water ingress to the motor if there is ever a leak. And having over 30 years experience with that type of pump, they WILL leak and you probably won't notice until the motor stops. Also have a couple of service kits on board for every model. Make sure the kit includes a Diaphragm, Valve block, wobble plate AND a shaft seal. A spare pressure switch is also good to have in the spare parts box. Good effort showing all the little jobs that need attending to while doing a minor refit of systems. Looking forward to further adventures...maybe a Panama transit and off to the big water heading west??? Cheers Brad

And benefits of being able to sail anywhere you want, plus sunsets/sunrises - priceless! Yeah it's a little pricy, but over a 10-15 year period compared to owning a house & a car over the same period. I'll bet the boat isn't that much more...
14:58 through 15:03 Looking at the coax cables you had vs what you get I am astunned if what you had is the original coax for your VHF antenna. If so, it really speaks of how little the OEM of the boat knows about the things they install. The white original coax cable looks to be RG58, or should be. Since it is white it could even be RG59 which is regular 75 Ohm tv cable. It should be 50 Ohm as that is the Ohmnage of your radio and your antenna. Now, if it is RG-58 cable it is a really really lossy cable for VHF, well really anything with longer runs above the HF (Shortwave bands) and even there one should be carefull of using it with longer runs unless you are down on say below 4MHz as it will not take so much power. Now with 25 Watts only it is no problem to take the power. I dont know how long run you have from the antenna, through the mast, into the boat, over and under and inside any cuboards and floorings but let us just imagine you have 30 meters or 100 feet of coax....... The Marine VHF band is starting at 155MHz and goes up, the higher the frequency the more the loss in the cable. A RG-58 has a loss of about 6.2 db at 150MHz and the higher you go - the more the loss. So what is 6.2db equal to? Well, the db loss is logaritmic and in short one can say that 3db represents a halfation of power. This means transmitting 25W into the coax towards the antenna would give you only 12.5w that radiates from the antenna and that is if you have a good effective antenna (Marine VHF antennas are very broadbanded to cover all the channels and hence not very effective). On the receiving end the 3db loss would represent 1 unit on the S-meter or half the strenght or your reception - this could be the difference between hearing that Mayday of a neighbouring boat, or not at all. Now, the RG-58 has a loss of 6.2 db at 150MHz on 100 feed / 30m which represents a loss of about 75%of your transmitted power - 25 Watts becomes 6,25 Watts only and your reception is equally as poor. Now, your new cable could be a veriety of different cables but the most likely is that it is RG-213 as it looks very similar to it. If this is RG-213 it has a loss at 150MHz of 2.8db on a 30m / 100 feet run. This means you will have a transmit power out of the antenna of about 13 Watts our of your 25 instead of 6,25. You will also hear opposite stations far better. I know it is too late but if I were you I would had gone for something even better or even roof mount the antenna instead of mast mount it as the loss you get by the long run is sometimes worse than the height you get from having the not so effective marine broadbanded vertical in the mast top. Another advice - try run the cable as short as possible, if you have an extra length over by the radio then dont wind it up in a coil but cut it and solder (always solder coax and other electrical connectors) a new connector. If you dont want to do that then have the extra lenght by the antenna and wind it up in a coil just befor the connector to the antenna - this would act as a RF-choke, a form of a balun which will help to prevent the power which is not effectivly transmitting from your antenna to walk back to your radio (Standing Waves). This is common on non-effective antennas which all broadband antennas are. And this reflected power can cause problem with your other electronic equipment and in worst case even damage them. Perhaps you have heard from folks who have problem watching TV when their neighbour has been using their CB or Ham-station? This is one problem that can cause just that. Fair winds and thank you for giving us pleasure to watch another great episode. Cheers from SWEDEN

Although the prices for the rigging seem like they would choke a horse when the payment comes due, at least the maintenance is good for another 10 - 15 years. When you look at it cost out for 10 - 15 years, the annual cost is easier to take. Especially if you aren't planning on owning this boat for more than 10 years.

I did a small gig at a rope manufacturer, the reason for the cost is apparently sourcing the natural and petro-chem materials needed to make the rope. Apparently natural tree sap is used somehow and that is expensive.

Hey guys, great work. Just have one small point. Fresh water pumps should be mounted with the pump head down and the motor up in case the pump head leaks it doesn't run down into the motor and cause problems. Glad to see all the work being completed.

I have a three blade feathering prop just like the ones you installed. It makes one heck of a difference in speed and it also works well in reverse. You will love them! I would like to know how the yellowish coating works out keeping the barnacles off.

Wow thats one hellava tune up job. The boat looks great, I cant wait to see the underwater lights in action. The new rigging is expensive but what a great way to spend your money, the piece of mind you'll have with all new rigging is worth the cost alone, not to mention the insurance deal that Nikki talked about. Cant believe how many bottles of booze was in that box LOL.
Those underwater lights are going to look SOOO GOOD in drone footage!

I have a three blade feathering prop just like the ones you installed. It makes one heck of a difference in speed and it also works well in reverse. You will love them! I would like to know how the yellowish coating works out keeping the barnacles off.
Rigging on a Cat takes more stress than a Mono hull for sure! A Mono will heel in high wind where the Cat will not!
