7 1/2 Days in a Road Train - Part 1 of 5

  • Part 1 is the first installment of a 5 part series of videos that shows the detour I had to take in February 2022 to transport freight in a triple Road Train from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory.
    The Government had granted triple Road Trains supplementary access for 28 days to the Northern Territory via Burra in South Australia through New South Wales coming out at the bottom of Queensland. This was only ever a double Road Train route, triple Road Trains were not normally allowed on these roads.
    I have taken my camera gear along with me on this seven and a half day road trip in a triple Road Train to film as much of the floods and journey that I thought might be of some interest to anyone. At the time of leaving Adelaide in South Australia, it was still raining along some of the roads that I would travel on causing road closures along the way. As I moved from State to State, I could only hope that these temporary road closures would not cause me to sit stationary waiting for areas to dry out so that I could continue.
    Music in the video is available from EPIDEMIC SOUND https

However, watching your very entertaining and informative videos gives me a greater appreciation of the sort of difficulties you encounter, such as oncoming motorists not giving you room when they can see you are doing a turn. Things got a bit quiet at work with no diesel getting passed Glendambo. It’s amazing how green it is out here at the moment (East of Coober Pedy). Great video, Mick. It must have been nice flying solo for a change.

      I found it amazing to travel so far around Australia and to see it green for the majority of the trip. It just illustrated how far and wide the rain has been. Solo is certainly different to being 2-up, been a while since I have done a trip on my own.

    Thanks for showing Yunta. I did my apprenticeship at what was then A E (Alby) Sherriff's BP Oasis Garage, It is now the Ampol Truck Stop and the last building on the left as you head out of town en route to the "Hill". My Late parents and brother had what was the then Mannahill Store .. This was in the 60's and gee it brought a tear to my eyes.

    Another great video, I'm now a happy subscriber!
    One thing I thought was that now that it's possible to post long videos to TH-cam (10 hours or more), it would be great to film the front view of the truck during a long journey- I don't know if you're aware of the fairly recent advent of 'slow tv'- SBS did a series on trains- the Indian Pacific, The Ghan etc. You'd obviously edit out your breaks and any private moments, haha, but I find the effect really hypnotic.
    Anyway, it's just a thought. Loving the videos- both with road trains and caravan adventures. Cheers

      @justcruisinwithmicksally837  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to watch some of the SBS train trip but found it too long and uneventful to keep me interested. We all have different likes in what we would like to watch though.
      There is so much I would like to film if I was permitted to do so as well as having the time during the trips to set up for the filming. My employer has been great allowing me to do what I do but there are so many restrictions from freight receivers along my trip which is fair enough.
