  • Here's the second video in the Recreational Barrel Works. Andy shows how to properly fit a harness on a 60 litre and a 30 litre barrel.

I just read your article in Paddling Magazine about amateur bushcraft at campsites. I could not agree with you more. There may be places (like private land) where building a bushcraft style shelter may make some sense, but the reality is that a simple tent is usually the best solution. Building "forts" in the woods was fun when we were young, but it is totally inappropriate on public lands where leave no trace is the absolutely the way to go. Leaving camp furniture, nails in trees, and other "improvement" just spoils the sense of wilderness for everyone else. Thanks for your article!

Glad to see the barrel and barrel harness business alive and well here in Ontario!

I had an old, old backpack that was not worth anything anymore except the shoulder straps were still in good shape. I took them, 8 fender washers, some sealer (don't remember what ... maybe Ace Hardware rope caulk), and four screws and nuts and mounted the straps and hip belt to a 60L?? barrel. It worked great for us and really cost nothing but the barrel cost. Never really dumped it out of the canoe but never had a problem. Wish I still had it.

I have the 60 full kit on my wish list, if I'm really good I will see it before ice out, so I can practice with it. the 30 l doesn't have a cooler pack?

I think I just had a flashback to Dan Cooke's tarp workshop! In the best way. I think I could get the hang of the harness. Is outside pouch waterproof? Have considered trying 30L for solo trips.

Who needs so many paddles? Wish barrels came in a nicer color. Blue attracts bugs. Andy is a handy friend.

I presume it could be painted, and the scratches after will just add to it.

Maybe the bugs will bite the barrel instead of you

Kevin is definitely tired of me always telling him that his blue canoe attracts bugs. And I am getting closer to his paddle count. More than shown, but he has more in backyard.

Are those barrels bear proof or just water proof?
