this podcast can't be SO relatable. I'm from Argentina, we are living a terrible economic crisis. I'm graduated as a graphic designer and I've been working in UX/UI for 4 years because it's the area where you can earn the most money. I'm looking for a new job and I'm sick of the rigidity and monotony of UX/UI design, of companies and their horrible interview processes, and very low salaries. I just want to be freelance and enjoy what I do... Thanks for this, I needed to hear a lot of things🥺💙

Do "Web Design", maybe. Watch "Bont" (he is from Argentina, and he does incredible web design).
Yeah, completely opposite to these graphic design girls (who I love and have been watching for probably 6 years, don't get me wrong :) I even think we UI/UX might be half of their audience, as half graphic designers become UI now a days). Obviously "Web Design" or "UX/UI Design" is way more rigid than just "Graphic Design" (I mean, we gotta code those designs for real digital media after all). It's specially very different to "Graphic Design" in the music industry, which is awesome!!! but is obviously not what normal or most "Graphic Designers" do either.
My point... between "Web Design" & "UI Design" (and specially "UX Design"), "Web Design" is way less rigid! Just look at "Awwwards" websites and the cool stuff people do.

As a UI/UX Designer (a figma person) I can confirm it is super methodical. I often find that I can't get extremely creative due to the rigid guidelines. I'm a strong believer that UI needs to become more fun and quirky! Love the pod guys, keep it up! 💜

Can confirm about the foot thing. Had a heavy bench fall on my foot in elementary school and then grew up to be a graphic designer

As a U/Web designer the reason we get so fixated is cause we don't have enough to do. hahaha. We want to make our selves feel more important then we are.

Another interesting take on the industry, thank you for sharing. Would love to hear your thoughts on packaging design in the future.

God I miss the days of lockdown design, everyone getting super creative and inspired, carving new design trends. Pre video priority on instagram, pre AI. Design discord channels and share pages popping off. Such a strong community. I made my best work in those times. A golden era for sure

Unfortunately design tests are still a very common thing (they shouldn’t be) 😪 its like telling a designer that maybe what they have on their portfolio is not their work. They’re insinuating that you’re lying to them. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I actually have a friend that works with RH and there were several cases of people lying in their resumes and portfolio. She told me that they are only able to notice with tests. I only use my own work on my portfolio of course but there are very shady people out there

The colorguard side bar at the end, reminded me of when I did a horizontal toss with my flag and the stopper was broken… it smacked me in the face and cut my cornea💀

As a blender guy, yes, the community can be intense, but it really depends on what sub genre of the community you're talking to.😅 The generalists are the best.

I did a motion design "test" where I had to animate a company's logo for a remote job back in 2022, which I kind of understand because most of their unpaid interns' work didn't match up to their portfolios... but also they were unpaid so who knows if they were even trying. Thankfully I got the job and it paid me well but it was only for 3 months :/
Edit: Can someone tell me who Julia is? ._.
