- This is a remastered version of one of my second videos. In the original version, the sound quality was not very good and the pacing of the video was all wrong. I went through and re-recorded all new dialogue and fixed the pacing. I also added a few New pieces of trivia.

The footage you used for Hit and Run is actually The Simpson’s Road Rage, which came out in 2001, and The Simpsons game came out in 2007.
LeroyThundertruck 0-7741: *worst.response.EVEER.* It’s the truth though about him getting his footage and info wrong, which happens quite a bit.
All we wanted was the arcade game on the home consoles! It would have sold like crazy. I guess the crappy games they gave us in it's place sold like crazy anyways so to them it didn't matter, but it matters to me damn it. Thank god for emulation.
Great channel dude, I've been devouring your content. Good stuff, brings back a lot of memories. Thank you.
Exactly, sure the port would've been inferior to the arcade game but the super Nintendo could have Made it close. Emulation let us play games that we would have never Got a chance to play. Japanese titles, Rare arcade games we never got to see, etc.
Glad you enjoyed my content. Thank you so much for the nice words. Maybe share it around if you get a chance :-)
The C64 version was awesome, I loved it
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries thomas murphy is a german name
It was fucking LJN and those trash games did not actually sell as well as a port of the arcade would have.
the game sucked
I have a 4 player Simpsons and Simpsons bowling in my arcade collection and they both get tons of play when people are over. Definitely two that will never leave.
That's awesome, I would love to hold an original Cabinet
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries too bad the only way you can play the Simpsons arcade game nowadays is if you owned the original arcade cabinet
@@ClassicGamer9044 also emulators
I'm happy they did release it on PSN and Xbox store in 2012. Same with X-Men and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games. I also loved Sunset Riders.
Sunset is an excellent game as well and fits iin perfectly with the konami line of games
Homer was only 35 ???? Wow I feel great as a 37 year old
"The big reveal (Marge as a rabbit) was going to take place on the final episode of the Simpsons but was scrapped due to inconsistencies in the story telling." Yeah, like that's ever stopped them any season of the show after season 10!
You know the series Has dropped in quality quite a bit but I still enjoy watching it on Sunday nights.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries you got that right, i feel they lost soul and purpose for the Simpsons, they weren't Simpsons anymore, just desperate for attention grabbers. And if you watch the new episodes, they're boring because they cut out almost All The music and songs and sound effects. Then watch old ones and you can tell the big differences.
My Dad loved The Simpsons so if we were ever out as a kid I was always able to convince him to give me quarters to play that arcade game. Ah again so much nostalgia.
That's awesome, Glad you enjoyed it
Best Simpson game ever which still remains a cult classic arcade status from Konami. Anything LJN touches for the most part the games will turnout to be a recipe of disaster, even for Marvel comic games and WWF pro wrestling games as well.
I'd say WWF Raw and Maximum Carnage are good games, and I had fun with the Friday the 13th and Karate Kid games, but stuff like X-Men or Roger Rabbit,,shudder
I remember playing this in the arcade. Such a great game. Awesome job with the vid! 👍
Kids today will never know how mind blowing this game was when it came out. The opening alone had me drooling. I actually had the Commodore 64 version. Could never beat it. The jump attack moves were damn near impossible to consistently keep up. Mr. Burns owned me every time. They didn't give enough credits.
I agree, for an eight bit machine no this was a masterpiece in darn near everything From the arcade game was included minus the voices
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Speaking of beat em ups, its a shame the Beavis and Butthead cabinet was canceled.

Hey bud, really sorry for the late reply but been a little under the weather, and haven't been on YT for a good few days.
As to be expected the video was absolutely superb! Like a lot of Gen-X layabouts my two biggest influences growing were videogames and The Simpsons, so this was a full on nostalgia hit!
I love the older series of The Simpsons, so the arcade game brings back great memories of such classics as Troy McClure singing
*"Oh my God, I was wrong, it was earth all along! Yes you finally made a monkey out of me!*
And Homer lamenting his goodbye to Duff by singing *"When I was seventeen I drank some very good beer... Some very good beer I purchased with a fake ID... My name was Brian McGee, I stayed up listening to Queen... When I was seventeen.."*
Keep up the great work man! Your channel is going from strength to strength!! 🇺🇲🇬🇧👍

That's very nice of you to say. I'm glad you are enjoying my content So much. Thanks again
The reason why the PC conversion doesn't have voice samples is because that game only supports up to Ad-Lib sound which only uses the OPL2 FM synthesis chip. You couldn't play back digital samples on that. Given the geographical location of the developer and how the SoundBlaster cards didn't really become the standard for sound on the PC until after 1992 I can see why that happened. I had a copy of that game back in the early 90s and while it was fun it still wasn't quite as good as the arcade game!
Yes I was aware that ad lib only uses the OPL chip Which meant no digitized samples. And no I wasn't as good as the arcade game but for a 1992 conversion it was really well done and surprisingly close
8:20 yet ANOTHER reason to despise LJN.
@Hokum Doodie But LJN stood in the way of home console ports of the best Simpsons game.
LOL, you got that right
I like the presentation on Bart's nightmare but the games were a chore to play through
Thanks, LJN
I'm curious as to how LJN is involved as the way I remember it, the home console games were from Acclaim and, just in case I'm experiencing the "Mandela Effect" (re: remembering things wrong), all the box art for the Nintendo and Super Nintendo Simpsons games say "Acclaim" (the early Sega ports were Flying Edge, which was really just a sublabel of Acclaim).
remember playing this at the Arcade.. much like NBA Jam and TMNT 4 player goodness! recently turned on my PS3 and remember I had purchased this from PSN... played with my wife and kid.. we had a blast.. great video
The Simpson's arcade game did get a re-release digitally for PlayStation network and and Xbox 360 Microsoft store. But however about 1 year later the game was delisted and pulled from digital store's.
On my ps3 I still have the simpsons arcade game which I always thought you could buy it anytime on psn thanks for sharing that information
I found your channel by accident and I'm glad that I did. This kind of stuff has always piqued my interest. I grew up in arcades and it is fun to relive my childhood while getting a history lesson at the same time. Do you think you can do a video about Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II or even Space Ace? I've already subscribed and activated the notifications. Thanks again and keep up the excellent work.
One of my early videos was on dragons lair So check my channel out if you are interested. Thanks for the nice words, glad you enjoy my content
I remember fighting that damn bowling ball, it was my first time fighting a boss that came back stronger.
It was a pain that's for sure
1:33 That was Simpsons Road Rage not Hit and Run.
That's what I Thought... I remember my dumbass friend had Road Rage (I never played THAT or HIT AND RUN- yes obviously I missed out, but when my friend rented Simpsons Wrestling it ruined our weekend!)
Yup. Hit and Run was pretty good and Road Rage was a decent Crazy Taxi clone as well though.
@@KaneRobot so good in fact that Sega tried to sue them Lol 😂🤣
@PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries As always your videos are just pure gold! The feel of nostalgia permeates in every single one of them. I was wondering, since you have covered many of KONAMI's arcade classics from TMNTs and the Simpsons, will you cover ALIENS as well? That one is also a great one from them and quite funny based on the creative liberties it took. Both the Japanese version and the US versions have very little differences, but I would love it if you were to cover that story :)
Thanks for the nice words, I really appreciate them. I will get around to aliens since I always enjoyed it back in the day
The PC Version more looks like vga 16 colors, with an individual palette (not ega 16 colors fixed colorpalette). I actually just count 10 colors used. Also, some colors are made by dithering (10:02), a technique usually not used when having 256 colors but only 16.
I was in the 7th grade when this came out. This was extremely popular in the arcade in 1991 through 1992. I had so much fun playing this! Especially with 3 other friends playing along with me.
Absolutely, four player co-op on this was excellent just like the turtles.
ALWAYS a a favorite of mine and ALWAYS played it at Chuck E Cheese. The ONLY arcade game out of The Ninja Turtles. It's REALLY BEYOND CRIMINAL that it wasn't ported to the NES.
The Simpson's were originally SUPPOSED to be a family of rabbits though.
The NES wouldn't have had a proper conversionBut the super NES would've been perfect for it.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries and maybe a sega genesis game that isn't actually a port of the arcade game, but rather its own adventure
i was on holiday in 1994 and one evening me and my mate were in one of the arcades (just played star wars) and the Simpsons machine was either running for free or had 100 credits racked up on it. this was pretty late in the evening probably around 11.00 and hardly anyone in there. So we obviously played it right the way through for free. would have cost me £30 otherwise. that was a bonus. had that happen a couple of times. ill mention it in one of the other videos in your list that i played for free.
you didnt show the weird dream cloud bit of this game. you showed it in the xmen video.
all the best .
There were a few levels I didn't show, which is why I showed it in the X-Men video. It's amazing how many quarters we put through those machines back in the day. Thanks for sharing your story
I played it the same way with my little brother years ago. The machine said insert coin, but the game was playable even though we didn't put in any tokens.
I would play this when my mom would take me to the department store as a kid.
This game is awesome! NES Simpson's games were trash, it's too bad they couldn't port this to the NES.
TMNT was awesome as well!
Damn! Every game I am thinking of while watching one of your vids u have it!
I still can’t comprehend why Konami wouldn’t have released this for modern consoles. i agree it would sell insanely well. Add in online multiplayer and it’s a guaranteed money maker.
I wish Konami would remaster some of their titles. Most notably 89 Tmnt Arcade game, Simpson’s Arcade and Metal Gear Solid for ps1.
Perhaps the license for The Simpsons is too high? I'm not really sure
Eventually they did release it on XBLA and PSN. Sadly, it was only a temporary license with FOX, and it disappeared rather quickly and quietly. .
I want Bucky O'Hare and Wild West Cow Boys arcade ports dammit!
Small piece of advice: I feel like I’m listening to a school lecture because I can hear the clicking sounds made to transfer to the next screen.
Can’t wait till this game gets an Arcade 1up. It will be worth every penny for the frozen pizza nostalgia of the old school arcade games. Great video Pat.
That would be fantastic. It certainly Is a possibility since we have the turtles Mini. I would love to see a mini version of Tapper or wrestlefest
The Simpsons is the one arcade machine I've always wanted to own. When I heard about Arcade1up, I immediately checked to see if they did this game as it's the one I would buy. Then again, I won't be buying one as they cost twice as much here in the UK (the equivalent of just under $500 per cabinet).
Plus I can't find any basic information on what screens they use, what CRT emulation techniques they use, or even any screenshots, all of which would be essential to know.
And it did! Did you get one? We just did it's great❤
this was one of my favorite arcade games back then.
long live the simpsons.
I agree, hard to believe it's been around for over 30 years
It was the UK government at the time who banned the term "Ninja" and nunchuks because there was a massacre where a man was obsessed with ninjas and nunchuks killed people so the BBC had to change the title
Thanks for the correction
Nunchucks is like one of the worst things to kill someone with.
Nostalgia overload. Turtles Arcade just makes me think of Pizza Hut.
LOL
Thanks Pat for another enjoyable video.
Thanks for the nice words Kevin
I distinctly recall a dual side by side screened arcade cabinet that had The Simpson's, and was changed from a six player X-men machine.
Very cool, I've never seen one like that
Wow Pat thanks! So many memories. I really wish Konami would renew the rights and bring this back to a digital storefront like Switch. I missed out on it back when it was available ten years ago on PS3/360.
As an aside, the giant poster of the population of Springfield that you showed at the beginning of the video is still above my old bed in my old room at my folks' place.
Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you. That's a classic poster that I've got somewhere here in my house as well just not sure where
The MS-DOS was great, it's worst point was that it didn't have the special attack pressing the two buttons.
For those who are going to play the game throught emulation I recommend to play the japanese version of the game. You can find more items, with many of them hidden in several places and you can expand the life bar eating more food.
I could've sworn the MS-DOS version had the special attacks
Love your videos, Pat! Knocked it out of the park as usual. What surprised me was that, with all their success with 4-player beat ‘em ups, Konami never made a 4 player Castlevania arcade! Plenty of ideas there. I’d basically use CV3 as reference. You’d play as Trevor, Alucard, Grant and Sypha against Dracula and his minions in 15th century Transylvania. Just redo the NES stages and enemies in a beat up fashion. Bosses would include Death, Phantom Bat, Medusa and finally Dracula and his many forms. I wonder if it was ever considered. We can only dream. Thanks again for the videos, Pat!
Thanks! That would have been really cool. I don't know how it would've faired in the arcades though. I can definitely see a four player game at home though especially with the longer questS
I have one of these machines. Got it free from work when we closed down. Someone modified the control panel and the marquee. They also painted the sideart. They painted around the original artwork with a similar blue color, but it looks like crap. I plan on restoring it some day. I also have a turtles machine, which i've been meaning to pull out of the garage to fix the screen the last couple of weeks.
Simpsons arcade was an awesome game! Too bad they haven’t rereleased it again due to copyright problems
I Agree, it would be fantastic to have a miniature arcade version of it
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Arcade 1up of Simpsons would be great they could put Sunset Heroes with it.

"Here's a twelve minute video about the history of the Simpson's arcade game except the first six minutes are all about the Ninja Turtles game and the rest of the video is an overview of how of how the Simpsons game plays."
Great, glad you liked it
It's not like the game had an abundance of home conversions to cover, so I don't know what you were expecting.
That was a fun watch, subbed!
Thank you very much :-)
I liked Bart vs the Space Mutants.
Completed it on the Amstrad.
Much better than I ever did, I could never get into the game
Lived in a small town in WV. There was 2 of these in our neighborhood. Iconic
That's hilarious, you guys must love your Simpsons :-)
Good job LJN 👏. You could of helped bring out the best Simpsons game of all time like tmnt on the snes but you clearly don't know what consumer's want. Bravo.
Exactly
I went to arcades a bunch of times when I was a kid. Unfortunately, only one of those arcades had The Simpson's game. That was the one game I could not get to. The line looked like people were waiting to purchase concert tickets. Thank God for Mame. I can play it any time I want. It's good to be a grown up....sometimes.
Wow, I recall there being a big line around the Simpsons in my arcades.
I bought this arcade game for $1100 in good condition brings me back to my childhood
It sure does, sounds like a good price
Also, good comic book guy impression.
LOL Thank you. my wife said I sounded nothing like him.
I've said this before, but I really think Patman sounds like the telephone voiceover guy from Bart of Darkness, who says "If you know the name of the king or queen being murdered, press 1"
I remember the 1st time my friends and i stumbled into the arcade room at the new miniature golf place and came across this and something called street fighter 2 . So much nerd joy.
Hey Patman, you are very well versed in arcade cabinets. I was wondering if you knew the name of one where it was 1st person like punch out but wrestling instead. When you did a powerful move you would have to stop a spinning slot machine to see which move you got. I tried googling every vague description i can think of and havent been able to find this game i remember from my childhood. Figured I would ask an expert.
Wow, where was this located at? USA? England? About what year was this? I'm pretty versed on my wrestling games but Not ringing a bell. I'll check into it because now I'm curious :-)
@@spineknife2386 I think it might have been Wrestle War?
@@Scripture-Man i just looked up some vids of wrestle war and it was not sir. Thank you very much for the reply though
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries it was in the us in the early to mid 90s
Honestly, Acclaim could have just sublicensed the home conversion, and released it under their label. They didn't actually develop any of their own games, much like what happened when they were LJN, so licensing the game from Konami and having some other studio develop it could have been possible. My guess is that they made an exclusivity deal on development of Simpsons games from Beam Software. If they were involved, I don't think we would have got a decent conversion.
Why Konami never even asked Acclaim to port the Simpsons idk
I kept hoping this would get a Genesis/SNES release in the 90's, same as the Xmen game. Turtles in Time had such a great port that I never understood why they didn't port the others. Screw you LJN
They could have done a fantastic job on the super Nintendo or Genesis
Agreed screw 🖕 you LJN Lol 😂🤣
I get mentioning Konami finding success with TMNT as inspiration to tackle The Simpsons, but getting into British censorship of the entire Turtle franchise is getting a bit off track.
No because it's a small piece of trivia And it took up a total of 10 seconds in the video.
You forgot to mention the digital release on PS3. So glad I still have that copy since it’s no longer available.
In Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley Laser Tag has this game, if anyone wants to give it a go. I used to play this at an old restaurant, it's very fun.
Thanks to the tip
My local YMCA still had it in their lounge room as late as the mid 2000s. The last time I found a cabinet was at a barcade.
I downloaded the Arcade game when it was availible for PS3 a few years back. It was eye opening to play thru the game in it's default difficulty. All the Arcades I ever played it at always had the difficulty cranked all the way up. Bosses would be total sacks of HPs and took multiple quarters to fall. (Mr Burns, the Shogun, and the nightmare bowling bowl were all obnoxious on the hardest setting.) Between my lesser skills at age 10 ish when I played and the harder setting I died far more often. I played with just my middle brother on the PS3 version and torn through very quickly as adults on the normal setting. Between our vastly improved skills as veteran gamers and the game being on a lower setting it was a breeze to clear. Mr Burns was anti-climatic as like I remember wailing on this guy for multiple minutes before it was all over. He goes down in a completely reasonable time span on normal. Konami made this, and other beat em ups with a fair difficulty...most of us never got to play the default setting. Arcades always put the difficulty at max level so that's why most of remember these games literally beating our lunch money out of us heh. I'd imagine if they didn't, tons of players would clear these games without spending a multiple dollars to complete them.
Thanks for Sharing your gaming memories, I always love reading them. Certain games the older I got the better I got, other genres? My skill set went way down :-) it makes sense that the arcade owners would crank up the difficulty Just to squeeze that last quarter out of us. I can recall the Bosses being insanely hard Just like ou. I didn't download it on the PlayStation network so I can compare but I have played it quite a bit on Mame. I never thought about going in and lowering the difficulty in the settings. In doing my videos I've talked to a lot of original game designers from the 80s and a lot of them have told me there is a fine line between making a game fun and making it A quarter muncher. They want to get game times down to under five minutes per quarter so they make it as difficult as possible still try to make it fun.
Thanks for the reply
There is an old picture of Galloping Ghost Arcade on this video at the 2:49 mark. Have you ever been to Galloping Ghost Arcade?

My quarters went to this game for sure. At Showbiz Pizza. Love it!
Good old showbiz pizza :-)
Nice video, despite a few hiccups like the few minutes of silence at the end there. Only the four main Simpson family member actors were involved in the recording. Harry as you say wasn't available and Hank Azaria wasn't a permanent cast member till the second season. Also, it wasn't LJN who had the home license for Simpsons games, that was Acclaim who had the home console rights. Not bad otherwise.
