Just the change exhibited in the locker room last season convinced me we got one hell of a coach and some great individuals on this team. Media can doubt all they want. I am a life long Vikings fan and I have seen great teams that have had early playoffs exists. This team hasn't put up back to back "great" seasons in a while. So I will curtail my enthusiasm until about week 8 when we know who they are. The season is long and it's a grind, if they stay healthy, I expect great things from them.

It’s cause Minnesota has a fan base that consists of Minnesota north and South Dakota. One of the smallest markets out there. Detroit is huge compared to Minnesota

Being real the offense will be good, but the running back room is questionable. The defense is the biggest question we will see if the new young players can step up

I've watched and played sports long enough to know that getting "lucky" in those close games just doesn't happen 11 freakin' times like that. Maybe a few games, but nah, not 11. ESPN’s lazy approach to analytics loves to ignore that we struggled last year when JJ was doubled/tripled and nobody else could get open. We replaced the weakest link, Thielen, with Addison, and suddenly people want to suggest we will be worst? Granted, we didn’t add superstars to the defense but we replaced the insanely awful DC with Brian freaking Flores! Even if the entire defensive unit doesn’t take a huge step forward year 1, a marginal improvement will be very noticeable since we at least will make some plays once in a god damn while. Maybe every other week can be a win decided with 7-8 minutes left and not in the final 7-8 seconds. Plus, second year HC and this team have the fire in their hearts from last year and this level of being under the radar. Maybe they don’t hit 13 wins, but they will be a very good team. They didn’t get worse!

Im biased but semi realistic here. Vikings will be a better team than last year (they've pretty much upgraded or stayed the same at every position apart from d line but will have a much better scheme). That said, they will probably have a slightly worse record due to the randomness of 1 score games. Last year was an all time anomaly winning all those close games. Even if the vikings go under .500 in close games, they should still have double digit wins as they should be in less close games overall. 10-11 wins seems realistic and hopefully they can make some noise once in the playoffs.

It is very difficult to consistently come out on top in those games season over season. Teams that have finished with that kind of one score win success have never come close to replicating it the following season. Plus, point differential has always had a strong correlation with record, an area where the Vikings are extreme outliers. And outliers are subject to regression to the mean.

As a Vikings fan, I have them 9-8 at best and being 2nd in the North. The Vikings defense is TERRIBLE. 11 of their 13 wins was by a touchdown or less meaning that 13-4 record could've easily been a 4-13 record.

You mention Mattison several times and never say anything about him other than "he's been waiting on his opportunity", as if that's supposed to hype him up? He's had lots of opportunities and there's a reason he remained a backup: he's not good. He has poor vision and doesn't do anything particularly well. A serviceable backup that is not worth mentioning in a conversation about why you think the Vikings will be good. Similarly, saying listing Jordan Hicks and Marcus Davenport as exciting pieces for Flores to utilize? It feels like you just said the Vikings are going to be good, mentioned some players' names with no real explanations, and said to like and subscribe.
We *might* have had more respect if we hadn’t traded away Thielen. Lol. I don’t understand the details enough to know what’s right and wrong, but I guess it’s probably necessary to trade away productive players for a better opportunity (draft picks, other players, free up cap space). Only time will tell if the offense has improved with the absence of guys like Thielen and Cook, although they will likely be productive members of their new teams.
This team is full of players that are built for yards after the catch yards. Running game will be brutal on opponents. The defense will have a high interception and sack percentage. I'm ready for wonderland in Minnesota.
The Vikings aren't a good football team, they're a good football offense, OK special teams but that defense is very bad. They also have zero depth at some very key positions that the starters have injury reputations. I still think they will get 10 wins this season, but it will be because they win shootouts.

The lack of respect in the NFL is getting out of control, I think it is mainly for ratings because controversy sells. 13 wins in a season is no joke…Vikes wear the NFC North crown and therefore they should automatically be at the top. Our defense, undoubtedly got better, there really is no way for it to have gotten worse. I understand that every team has made improvements and that the lions definitely balled out towards the end of the season but that was after the season was more or less lost… it’s one thing to play, aggressive and loose with nothing to lose. It is a completely different game to play, aggressive and loose with a title on the line. Every team made changes in the off-season but there wasn’t one team that made significant changes to the point crowning them over the Vikes… our biggest weakness was the defense and besides Aaron Rodgers leaving the division, Flores entering the division is probably the most significant change. Football is played on the field. You never know whether the chemistry of great players will translate to complementary football.
Offense should be the definition of pick your poison. I actually think Mattison is a better fit than Dalvin at RB just because he's more downhill and this is an offense that needs to stay on schedule. Defensively if they're more aggressive that should help the secondary. What I don't understand is how somehow the Packers are somehow better without Rodgers while at the same time the Jets are now contenders with him.
Offence driven vs defence driven league is an irrelevant argument. Yeah, sure, offences get more leeway now, and score more points, but a good vs bad defence is still the same dynamic... good defence means that opponent scores half the points as if they had a bad defence... The key factor is that recievers are more important players now than they were historically, and the Vikings are stacked full of pass catchers with a good QB.
The Vikings record might regress, but they're probably going to be a better team. They'll have a much better chance to make a run in the playoffs this season.

It’s always math. People are just stupid. Lost cook for Mattison, slight loss. They lost Theilen for Addison, HUGE improvement. They lost Kendricks for pace, upgrade. Added Davenport for Zadarious. Even. Added Murphy, huge improvement. Oliver, Huge. Roy NT, improvement. Biggest impact, DEF Coord. Flores was THE biggest upgrade the Nfm had. Last year their DC was non existent with good players. Bend did break, ALWAYS.

Detroit hasn't won the division since 1993 when it was the NFC Central. The team the Vikings play in week 1, Tampa Bay Bucs, won the NFC Central more recently than the Lions. The Vikings are going to win the NFC North.
lets see what Detroit does vs KC in the season opener.. to see if they measure up to all that preseason hype.. Vikes did well last year with i think was just a flat-out bad D... so even if they just go from bad to less-bad on D, the O is significantly upgraded imo, so to me, the sky is the limit.. but the window won't stay open long (with aging hitman Harry and Danielle not so young either). Main concern after watching vikes preseason is their depth sucks in many positions, so staying healthy is huge.
Soft shell to moving parts and disguised blitzes and coverages? The scheme change alone improves the defense. Add Flores 's mind and ability to adjust to the game and his own personal, this could be a 15-18 unit right now. If they are, that's a few more stops a game. Just a few more stops a game removes the point differential and close games all together.
the point differential should have outliers taken into account so eliminate the widest loss and victory and than compare the PD. IT Was -3 for all 17 games if you take out the biggest loss it becomes +34 if you do the same with the biggest victory becomes +18.

After watching the Netflix QB documentary with Cousins it became apparent. Winning a Superbowl is not his highest value. His highest value is his family. Next is his longevity. He is viewing his time in the NFL as a career. On the surface this would sound reasonable and respectable to most people. But unless your NFL QB’s highest value is winning a SB, you’ll never create a dynasty like Tom Brady.

I agree for the most part but our Achilles heal wasn't necessary the defense it was the inconsistent drives and all the 3 and outs which were mainly caused by very poor interior line play. Especially verse good defensive tackles. That's the main reason I believe we'll be one and done at best. You just can't win championships or dominate games with a guy like Turdbary anchoring your o-line.

They just are not a good team. The offensive line is horrendous, our corners bad, and play calling average. We have a QB that can’t extend plays and checks down as soon as a play breaks down. This is not anywhere close to a contending team.

As a Vikings fan, I have them 9-8 at best and being 2nd in the North. The Vikings defense is TERRIBLE. 11 of their 13 wins was by a touchdown or less meaning that 13-4 record could've easily been a 4-13 record.
People are saying they won't be good because they won't win a record 11 one score games again. Well, I've got really bed news. The Vikings are a better team this year. They won't need to win 11 one score games because there will only be 4 or 5. Any beyond that will be playoff games. Prediction 13-4 or BETTER.

He's had lots of opportunities and there's a reason he remained a backup: he's not good. He has poor vision and doesn't do anything particularly well. A serviceable backup that is not worth mentioning in a conversation about why you think the Vikings will be good.

We *might* have had more respect if we hadn’t traded away Thielen. Lol. I don’t understand the details enough to know what’s right and wrong, but I guess it’s probably necessary to trade away productive players for a better opportunity (draft picks, other players, free up cap space). Only time will tell if the offense has improved with the absence of guys like Thielen and Cook, although they will likely be productive members of their new teams.
This team is full of players that are built for yards after the catch yards. Running game will be brutal on opponents. The defense will have a high interception and sack percentage. I'm ready for wonderland in Minnesota.

The Vikings aren't a good football team, they're a good football offense, OK special teams but that defense is very bad. They also have zero depth at some very key positions that the starters have injury reputations. I still think they will get 10 wins this season, but it will be because they win shootouts.

The lack of respect in the NFL is getting out of control, I think it is mainly for ratings because controversy sells. 13 wins in a season is no joke…Vikes wear the NFC North crown and therefore they should automatically be at the top. Our defense, undoubtedly got better, there really is no way for it to have gotten worse. I understand that every team has made improvements and that the lions definitely balled out towards the end of the season but that was after the season was more or less lost… it’s one thing to play, aggressive and loose with nothing to lose. It is a completely different game to play, aggressive and loose with a title on the line. Every team made changes in the off-season but there wasn’t one team that made significant changes to the point crowning them over the Vikes… our biggest weakness was the defense and besides Aaron Rodgers leaving the division, Flores entering the division is probably the most significant change. Football is played on the field. You never know whether the chemistry of great players will translate to complementary football.
Offense should be the definition of pick your poison. I actually think Mattison is a better fit than Dalvin at RB just because he's more downhill and this is an offense that needs to stay on schedule. Defensively if they're more aggressive that should help the secondary. What I don't understand is how somehow the Packers are somehow better without Rodgers while at the same time the Jets are now contenders with him.
Offence driven vs defence driven league is an irrelevant argument. Yeah, sure, offences get more leeway now, and score more points, but a good vs bad defence is still the same dynamic... good defence means that opponent scores half the points as if they had a bad defence... The key factor is that recievers are more important players now than they were historically, and the Vikings are stacked full of pass catchers with a good QB.

Minnesota has a very tough schedule and the O-Line that was one of the worst in the league last year hasn’t seen much improvement. Given what should be a great offense, I expect to see ten wins as well, but being the Vikings, it’s gonna be ten the hard way.

It’s always math. People are just stupid. Lost cook for Mattison, slight loss. They lost Theilen for Addison, HUGE improvement. They lost Kendricks for pace, upgrade. Added Davenport for Zadarious. Even. Added Murphy, huge improvement. Oliver, Huge. Roy NT, improvement. Biggest impact, DEF Coord. Flores was THE biggest upgrade the Nfm had. Last year their DC was non existent with good players. Bend did break, ALWAYS.

Being that they play a much tougher schedule and last years D is probably what they are mostly considering as they rank the Vikings. The keys to me will be how Oliver and Addison are used.

Detroit hasn't won the division since 1993 when it was the NFC Central. The team the Vikings play in week 1, Tampa Bay Bucs, won the NFC Central more recently than the Lions. The Vikings are going to win the NFC North.

lets see what Detroit does vs KC in the season opener.. to see if they measure up to all that preseason hype.. Vikes did well last year with i think was just a flat-out bad D... so even if they just go from bad to less-bad on D, the O is significantly upgraded imo, so to me, the sky is the limit.. but the window won't stay open long (with aging hitman Harry and Danielle not so young either). Main concern after watching vikes preseason is their depth sucks in many positions, so staying healthy is huge.

The scheme change alone improves the defense. Add Flores 's mind and ability to adjust to the game and his own personal, this could be a 15-18 unit right now.

the point differential should have outliers taken into account so eliminate the widest loss and victory and than compare the PD. IT Was -3 for all 17 games if you take out the biggest loss it becomes +34 if you do the same with the biggest victory becomes +18.
On one hand Lions fans have been in the trenches for a long time just like us Vikings fans have so it would be cool for them to finally have a great season. After watching the Netflix QB documentary with Cousins it became apparent. Winning a Superbowl is not his highest value. His highest value is his family. Next is his longevity. He is viewing his time in the NFL as a career. On the surface this would sound reasonable and respectable to most people.
But unless your NFL QB’s highest value is winning a SB, you’ll never create a dynasty like Tom Brady.

I agree for the most part but our Achilles heal wasn't necessary the defense it was the inconsistent drives and all the 3 and outs which were mainly caused by very poor interior line play. Especially verse good defensive tackles. That's the main reason I believe we'll be one and done at best. You just can't win championships or dominate games with a guy like Turdbary anchoring your o-line.
i think part of it is the fact that the Vikings haven't won a preseason game in a number of years, and they never play any starters, so it's hard to build up hype leading into the season just based on watching practice drills... but you know when a Packers' fan is noticing this, it is pretty bad... plus, i think the word from their management is the dreaded 'competitive rebuild' which I think is why the media has discounted them so consistently.
