100 % agree, I started charging more when I moved from just editing to actually producing content. Get a couple of cameras, a couple o lenses, lights, mics and put yourself out there. My agency now produces content for local businesses and edit videos for people outside my country. Cheers from Latin America!

That is what I started doing, currently I just play video games, then I have pop ups of unknown information (such as dev talk or some coding/programming stuff) about the game, usually something computer science related. Since I'[m currently in school for it. I have just started this venture, but I'm having fun showing off my computer science and media arts and animation skills.

Video editing is my passion I love creating videos and transforming ordinal videos into great ones. I really had high hopes when I started editing for TH-camrs, it was great at the start and I made decent money but along the line I noticed most weren't serious and they could just wake up one day and decide to quit TH-cam so there's no job security. The ones who were serious did almost nothing and I realized I was doing most of the work for them while they pay me peanuts and my videos make them thousands of dollars (mostly faceless channels) that was when I decided to start my own faceless channels instead of doing the work for someone and getting almost nothing, now I edit for myself and get paid, it's fun.

Oh my god Tray. This video was eye-opening. I don't have many words, all I can say is that this deserves more views then all those TH-camrs who make videos that give barely any value. This could be life-changing for me, thank you so much and god bless you.

This is so enlightening. I just transitioned from audio mixing/mastering to video editing not long ago ago and my impression has been that there is too much hassle around here cos all editors seem to be focused on a single point of interest. I really appreciate your idea of commercial editing though I am yet to figure how to work that out for myself, I am definitely encouraged that i could follow a more rounded and rewarding path simply by getting some more valuable skills to enhance my present editing skills.

    Some valid points man.
However, if your work is being compared to the value of a new editor, that seems less like an editor issue, but rather quality issue.
It’s possible to make $1,000+ from TH-cam videos, rather than going through the strategist/commercial route

I’m trying to get away from the TH-cam scene as well. I have one client rn that pays decent, but it’s not enough work. I’ve worked with Lankybox, iFerg, Aperture, Icydeluxe, and a few more TH-camrs. All of them had more than a million subscribers and all payed less than minimum wage lol. Hey man! Loved the values you shared. I am currently deeply stuck in the youtuber black hole working on video which pay close to nothing. I usually close clients because I believe I put the extra effort of adding animations. But end of the day I am aware of the fact that working for youtubers surely does not aid to my growth as an editor. I currently reside in India and mostly a bedroom editor. You mentioned networking with propective clients to bag them, but I do struggle to find the right platform to reach such people. I know this is a very repetitive question most beginners might ask you, but where exactly do you get started to make yourself visible to such high ticket clients which make my service worth working for?
