  • What happens when we die? I chat with Raymond Moody, the man who coined the term 'Near Death Experience', about life after death.
A doctor of philosophy, Raymond is one of the world authorities on this subject and has studied thousands of NDE cases. He features in the film, The Secret, and many films on the topic of life after death.

Nice interview. The issue of not remembering much about the afterlife experience and its symbolic aspects indicates that we access the afterlife through the unconscious mind. Abrahamic scriptures also speak of the afterlife in metaphors because our minds cannot comprehend it fully. The process of learning is indeed eternal according to these religious sources too. It's good to know that the afterlife is like when a person wakes up (hypnagogic) or I would add is even about to fall asleep (hypnopompic ) between conscious and unconscious states. It's a wonderful state to wake up from this material life dream into real life. No doubt creativity is ignited in these states. I think it also happens when a person is completely in the flow of thinking with no direction like a lost balloon or kite. I think this also sounds similar to Dr. Moody's concept of 'nonsense'. One of the times I accessed this state was back in 2010 when I slept on the floor in a big unfurnished room with a blindfold and earplugs in a sleeping bag. It triggered out-of-body experiences. Upon waking up I found myself shifted from one end of the room to another. I was in a free-flow state of thinking.

My father had such an NDE whilst having a cardiac in 1980 so I am a believer. I think Dr. Moody is intelligent, articulate and interesting.

Susie - Thank you for these interviews. They are helping me navigate a difficult time. I keep having the thought you need to meet David Ditchfield in the UK. I suspect you’d be friends.

Loved the interview and I was particularly interested in the suggested relationship between the supernatural and creative talent. I believe such a relationship does exist and I believe it can be supported by looking at the lives of creative peeps, especially musicians who have used their talents for great good and for the opposite. It's probably the same with writers but it is likely, especially within the last 60 years, that musicians have influenced behavior more than any particular writer. I also agree that the Lord of the Universe, our Creator, has never stopped creating new and good things.

Whatever the causation of an NDE it seems to me that the sceptics have a question to answer. How is it possible that after the cessation of life functions ( let’s not call it death necessarily ) ie heartbeat, breathing, brain scan data etc. people are still able to give accurate reports of events that their physical body was incapable of experiencing? Isn’t this prima facie evidence at least that consciousness is not entirely dependent on the physical brain for its continuation?

Why can't I get help from spirit, I ask for it, I lost my dear mum in March 2023, its nearly a year since she passed, I am not dealing at all well with my loss. mum maybe is finding it hard to reach me, of all people she would certainly have tried very hard to connect with me.

Lol, I keep looking at that idk what it's called but it looks Chinese and it can act as a divider. I was thinking to myself if he bought that at a swap meet or a little store and if he carried it or put it in a cart then I thought he may have ordered it.
