- Same day, same flight session planned for both Mike and JD. Crosswinds make everything more complex, but both the lads did a great job even though the pair of them had never practiced crosswind landings before. Not everything was perfect, but it's not meant to be at first.

One thing I love about your CFI "bedside manner" is the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the cockpit. We all know where you want to go in this industry, but when you are with your students we can all see there is no place you'd rather be. I've seen enough CFI's looking at the future and couldn't care less about the student sitting next to them. You never ever have that "time builder" vibe.
Thanks man. Throughout my training I had MANY different instructors that sucked the life out of the cockpit and made things very tense. I never wanted to be that type of CFI. I want to have fun while I 'work', while maintaining standards and helping my people achieve their dream of being a pilot. I have the time, I don't need to build hours. I genuinely enjoy what I do and I'm glad that shows in the videos! Thank you for your kind words man.
@@LewDixAviation I have CFI’s who come into my work (I work at a flight school) and I tell you what do we have so much fun. They have good laughs with students and that’s what needs to happen. We always have a smile on our faces, and always cracking funny jokes. That’s how a flight school should be
Love it! I really need to work on my crosswind landings and flying on windy days. I’ve really limited myself to fair weather flying.
Dude, I love the shit eating grin you get when a student is starting the transition and you just know it's going to be a great landing. Hilarious! I think that's what makes you a GREAT instructor is the pure sense of enjoyment you have when your students succeed.

There was a student at the flight school I study at, who about half a year ago, made the same mistake as at 18:14 on his first solo and couldn’t correct it, so he unfortunately broke the nose gear. I wasn’t there as it happened about 2-3 weeks before I started flying, but people told me that instead of calling for help from the ops of the school on the radio, he ran back to the hangars because he was so much in shock. So when it came time for me to learn traffic pattern, my instructor made sure I knew what to do, it’s a situation relatively easy to handle, but it’s easy to mess it up as well. Nice to see your quick reactions and the decision to go around too

Hi Lewis. I had a shocking cross wind circuit lesson last weekend. Thank you for the videos they are really helping me. I feel its easier to understand your mistakes by watching videos like this when you are away from the plane and the pressure is off.

I love my CFI as well, but I feel like when someone makes it fun while still maintaining complete awareness of every situation helps to take so much of some of the stress from learning to fly! 18:14 did the same thing solo a few days ago, bounced 3 times and went around. (bad decision should have gone around straight away) but now I know how did it thanks to you, transitioned too late.

Oh man this gets me nervous for my IFR checkride on Nov 2nd. I am pretty good with everything, maybe a bit meh on holds but they do fine. I guess it's always just the jitters with a big exam coming up!

I generally love the fun rapor you have with your students but can't help thinking JD would get on better and concentrate more if he took it a little bit more seriously and the cockpit was a little more sterile.
Must be a Continent-Thing......here in Europe/Switzerland we learn to T/O with flaps stay as it is after landing, during touch and go, and retract them while climbing.
In The Netherlands, we learn to do touch-and-go's exactly as Lewis teaches: after touchdown first retract the flaps, then add full power. We land with 30 to 40 degrees of flaps, which produces significant drag. Taking off with 40 degrees flaps is a no-go.
Do an A/B of crosswind landing training in a Cessna vs Piper....the float will keep things interesting!

Personally I enjoy flying crosswinds (in a taildragger) more than calm weather, dont know why but it feels like im more in control of the plane . Anyone else experience the same feeling?

It's just me or anybody else thinks that both students holding yoke with a "death grip"?
I mean - look at LewDix at 17:48 how he holds the yoke.
There is some difference, isn't it?
My instructor always had me use 2 fingers to apply a light touch instead of the death grip.
Presume you were taxiing in - neither student had a hand anywhere hear the yoke... Need winnd correction held in, and changing with each turn, all the way to parking. And no, we don’t use the yoke for steering on the ground on roll out/take off!
