Chinese Leather Shoe Patcher - How to solve the problems!

  • In this video I go through common issues like top/bottom tension, and needle rod height. I start with a perfectly working machine and make adjustments to mess it all up! showing how it will affect the stitching.
    I also talk really slow, so play back at 1.25 speed if you are in a rush!

    Only someone who has been battling with one of these sewing machines to the point of being sorry to have bought one will know how great a video you have produced. I had the common problem of thread breakage and bobbin alignment and never in a thousand years would have thought the issue was position of the needle shaft! Great job! I'll be looking you up when the next problem arises.

      I second this. These machines have more settings than a table. I thought I knew them all until he lowered the needle shaft.

    The first thing anyone should do after purchasing one of these time bandits is to spend a few hours watching Hightower at mainly acres. He goes through everything in detail, as well as how to file and polish certain parts.
    Adjusting the needle height is not a guessing game. Place the machine in the fully down position, then put a finger over the hole in the bottom and adjust the rod height so you can just barely feel the tip of the needle coming through, then tighten the set screw up top.
    If you run the machine with your finger over the bottom hole again, you should be able to barely sense that the needle point is touching your finger.

    I appreciate this video! I've had my machine for about 5 years, and when I got it there were almost no videos like this online. I had to experiment to get it going, but it still isn't working as as smooth as I would like. This week has been extremely frustrating because I'm making a belt for a client and the thread keeps breaking. I have no idea why and I feel like my only option is to take the machine apart completely (as explained by Harrison Hightower), or give up on it and buy a $3000 machine. I even made a plexiglass cover so I could see the bobbin working to try and figure out why the thread was braking and still couldn't get the answer.
    I had no idea about that adjustment at the top of the shaft you showed here. I really appreciate that!

    Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I’ve seen hours of videos on this machine but not a single one covers thread tensions like this. Running it repeatedly through the same material and thread while individually adjusting top and bottom tensions really helped things “sink in” for me. The process seems less “magical” now. Showing the results of each adjustment made it make sense. You have a talent for explaining things and it shows in this video.

  • @ZappninLLP
    @ZappninLLP 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks, I started by just loosening the lower thread tension on the side all the way out (did not use the upper at all) and tested it. Way too loose, leaving loops on the stitch of the top thread. Tightened the thread tension down first 5 turns then 3 more and finally a total of ten and the stitching was tight but still the upper thread was visible on the bottom, not pulling the bobbin thread tight enough. I loosened the bobbin tension a bit until the thread pulled out of the bobbin more easily. Worked! The stitch is tight and the threads meet in the middle of the leather as should happen. You got to balance the tensions. Thanks for taking the time and helping out this newbie to the Chinese machine.

    Very well demo’d. I understand why you can adjust the tension so much and still have a “decent” stitch. I’ve been sewing vinyl recently, total thickness maybe 1/32”. Wow, the tension is really finicky, because if it isn’t perfect, you can see that thread off center. But with thick material, it can be off center, but still within the layers, and you don’t see it, as long as it isn’t way off. As long as the overall tension is pretty good, the stitches will be tight, but not too tight.
    What’s interesting is that one guy says that the left hand hole in the shuttle (from the top) is the lower tension one, but you say the opposite. I’ve been doing it the way he’s recommended it. But now I’ve tried it your way, and well, it works better.
    Nice shoes, great stitching. It’s nice to see that this cheap machine can do so well when someone who understands it uses it.

    Firstly, I watch almost everything at 2x speed so didn't even notice you talking slow ;)
    secondly, and more importantly, I'd love to see more on cobbling footwear, or some reference material on cobling specific to this machine.
    I recently learned about these machines and have been soaking up as much info as I can about them, thus far I'm confident in my mechanical knowledge of them, but it's the use I'm not super confidant about, my machine should be here at some point next week, and I'm super excited!

    I just wasted 10 yards of thread just for that one little tip about the piston joint. My machine was working fine at first then started Fraying the thread after two stitches. That would then snap the thread. I changed out the needle, bobbin the cradle, and polished everything again. There was just a little bit of give in my connector so it moved just a mm. All it took to mess it up. So glad I found this video . I knew I was missing something simple.

    I spent about 16 hours trying to get this machine to work before giving up and returning it. It seems like most of the machines being shipped are just garbage and cannot be made to work no matter what. Mine had some sharp metal burrs deep inside the needle well that kept cutting my thread and it wasn’t possible to reach it with a file or any other tool. I’m surprised they even sell these machines anymore with so many returns.

  • @wc587
    @wc587 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have heard that to check the proper needle height,put your finger over the hole where the needle would come out if it came down to far. Correctly adjusted you should just be able to feel the needle point but it should not draw blood. Seems to work.

  • @dave5176

    If you file down the teeth on the pressure foot, and lighten up the spring tension on the foot, then it won't leave marks on the top side of the leather. You can also use some liquid tool handle coating on it.

My needles are snapping and the bottom thread from the bobbin is bunching up like crazy! My too thread snaps after two stitches then the wheel to sew gets stuck because of tangled thread... Thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ive read maybe my thread is to thick for the needle? I am using 130/21 needles with 277 T207 840D poly thread. Could that be the issue? Good day. I hope someone can help me. My needle doesn't go into the hole but hits the metal so that after a few stitches the needle breaks. Can I adjust this myself or is my device defective? So far I haven't seen where I could change that. -> All needles pierce against the metal and the rod to which the needle is attached cannot do anything by turning either. I would be grateful for any message.

      Did you fix it? You can adjust the length of the bottom arm to get the hole to line up with the needle.

    I bought my machine 2 years ago. One day it stopped stitching properly. The thread is looping very badly on the top AND bottom. No matter how much I adjust the tension in the bobbin or top stitch it does nothing. It’s been months and I have not been able to figure out why and no videos on TH-cam have helped

    I can't go 3 rotations without my thread popping. After watching a million videos I'm convinced my machine is defective
