We are Catholic and we were so blessed to send our son to pre-school at a Jewish Community Center for 2 years. We learned so much about the many Jewish festivals. His favorite was Sukkot!
I'm Catholic as well, & our church invited our neighbors from the synagogue to our parish to share a Seder with us so we could learn more about how G-d's chosen people carry on their traditions. It helped to bring our faith communities closer as neighbors, it helped us understand them better, we were able to share how we, as Catholics, view the Jewish community, & it was a great way to remind ourselves that Jesus was an observant Jew. I think that is forgotten WAAAY to often in the Christian world!

I have had the amazing experience of celebrating Purim, and the finishing of a Torah scroll parties in the orthodox communities. BEST PARTIES! My family had so much fun, felt so blessed and thankful to participate. The joy - simcha- was definitely what was most amazing!
I can testify personally as a non-Jewish person that dancing is SO important, inclusive and fun! It was many years ago, as it was a bat mitzvah I attended for a classmate, and the dancing was the one thing I remember most clearly to this day. I love Jewish parties, and I would love to go to another someday :)

I’ve come back after a couple days to add an additional comment. I keep thinking about the joyful quality of the celebrations you described. So often these days I hear people say they are “shy” or “introverted” or “awkward” as an excuse to refuse to go out and socialize. But at your parties all attendees must “contribute” their attention, their focus, their joy and it enhances the experience of all. The gatherings you describe don’t encourage people to sit back and wait to be entertained. Instead each person brings his or her best self to the event. What a lesson for us all!

Thank you so much for explaining all the details. I use to be a nurse and was wondering how your specific occupation as a doctor flows with your Jewish life and duties? Does it ever clash? Could you maybe do a video on this. I have sephardic ancestry but I am Traditional Catholic. The Secular world always clashes with my faith and time spent toward it when I was in nursing.

I love Jewish party, of course! I am shallow enough to say that using the grogger at a Purim reading is my favorite thing, and a Purim party afterwards is frosting on the cake, as the saying goes.

I love a lot about this video. The one lady dancing with the kids from her seat; "if you can walk you can dance". I also have something for you to say next time someone asks if you feel "oppressed" by being separated from the men: You see your husband every day, you don't always see all your lady friends every day.

Sarah I really enjoy catching up on what I missed growing up in my parents’ mixed non-observant family! Jewish Mom, Italian Dad, us kids - nothing! Purim looks super fun. I am in a rehab recovering after 2 weeks in hospital and survived Sepsis among other things. Bless you for being so generous and the work you do as a physician, and your channel. You, Sonya, Chana, Leah, Frieda and other amazing Jewish TH-cam moms have provided sooo much enrichment. I am turning 60 in July, and you have all inspired me to learn more about my heritage and perhaps explore becoming a proper practicing jewish guy! Israel here I come!!! Thank you Sarah!

Well, my favourite part is always to do with food, so learning about the foods dos and don'ts was very fun! And also about the simcha, which is brilliant! Made me immediately think of Simchat Torah and now I finally get it!! The Joy of Torah! I love it!!!

I’ve come back after a couple days to add an additional comment. I keep thinking about the joyful quality of the celebrations you described. So often these days I hear people say they are “shy” or “introverted” or “awkward” as an excuse to refuse to go out and socialize.
But at your parties all attendees must “contribute” their attention, their focus, their joy and it enhances the experience of all. The gatherings you describe don’t encourage people to sit back and wait to be entertained. Instead each person brings his or her best self to the event.
What a lesson for us all!
