Thats was my first and only Barbie, the Barbie western 1980s, I have her, but in 2007 a River destroid my house and my dear western barbie, I lost her, I miss so much her
I have both Western and my Dusty doll from my childhood that my mom saved! I never like Dusty not even as a child, I much preferred Western Barbie and she is here with me in her original droopy eye and western regalia. I even have my childhood Western Ken and their horses Dallas and Midnight. Love that you showcased them! Poor dolls get hammered all the time! 😄 Thank you Christopher and Rachel for sharing this fun nostalgia moment!! 💖Catalina
Great program! I have the winking eye Barbie, the poor little thing, the program almost makes me want to get a Dusty to add to my collection. I did say almost, lol
The Western Star Barbie was my favorite of all time! I wanted to be Dolly Parton and I made Barbie’s hair bigger than it came! After I got her that Christmas I got the camper for her. Best Christmas ever! Love seeing all your dolls! 🥰
I got the Western Barbie as a child when it came out in 1980 loved everything about it I still have all my barbies from childhood will have to search for it to see what her eyes look like now. At the time it was fun to have her eye winking and her outfit and accessories were made of very good quality.. I also got the Kissing Barbie which many also think is a creepy looking doll but I still prefer these barbies over what they make now.
My first Barbie doll! Except it wasn't that one! ^^ As a little French girl I got the European edition with beautiful superstar face! No wink here! Wonderful memories. Forgot to say, lovely vintage Barbies too!
It's always amusing to hear the younger collectors talking about those two dolls. There are so many dolls that you wonder what was the doll company thinking when they put this thing out? LOL I don't think the winking Barbie is attractive, though I have the doll in my collection along with the Western Ken and their horses. Who could pass them up in flea markets and thrift stores right? But I am old enough (dating myself here,) to remember the Dusty commercial playing on the old color TV in the middle 70's. When I saw the doll's bright happy smile and that white/blond very shiny hair, I really did think it was a beautiful doll. And I got one and enjoyed the action play aspect too. Back then that hairstyle wasn't called a mullet, it was called a "long shag cut." Everyone remembers Mrs. Brady of "The Brady Bunch," and her iconic short blond shag cut. Well Dusty's is the long version of that cut style. I don't know why that particular cut was called a "shag cut?" Perhaps after the carpet of the same name that was popular at that time? I doubt it was named after the British naughty slang word, but I could be wrong. 😉 So I don't see Dusty the way others do, since my first reaction was to think it a pretty doll. It was bright, cheerful, tanned, like a ray of sunshine, and looked like it actually was outdoorsy and active. I was that kind of child, very active, played in nature every day, and so I felt a connection with a doll that represented that. It was fun that it could swing a golf club or tennis racket. Which even more so today kids should be inspired to get outside and play tennis and golf or whatever gets them active, like the doll did. It was a doll that made me very happy to get and looks-wise it's very much of it's time. But I still really like Dusty and truly think it a pretty doll. Not creepy at all to me, just sweet and of another era that I really enjoyed growing up in.🌻
Haha I have 2 winking western Barbie’s . I actually removed her eyelids in an effort the repair the Barbie’s face with some facial reconstruction, and clay . Let s just say I have it didn’t work out so well . …. Then there is Dusty . I like her for the sheer craziness of her weird clown face smile .
Hahaha😂 This was fun😍. I didn't play much with Barbies but oh yes! I remember both these dolls! Thankfully, only my friends owned them 😉😉😉 The McDonald's reference was spot on! Great video 🥰😄
I never would have found your channel if it wasn't for my search for western winking barbie who I had once upon a time. I wasn't going to try to find her after your review but I did find a doll that stood the test of time over the other dolls. She's with me now with her Dallas. I truly adore you Christopher and Rachel and it's because of my child hood barbie I have found and I really enjoy this channel. ❤
That's such a heartwarming story, and we're so delighted that your search led you to us! Reuniting with a cherished doll from the past is a special kind of joy, and we're thrilled that our channel could play a part in your journey. It's amazing how dolls can hold so many memories and stand the test of time. We're honored to have you in our community and to share in the love of dolls that connect us to our past and each other. Christopher and I send our deepest thanks for your support and love. Welcome to the family! ❤️
Dawn dolls by Topper, can have that melting issue, especially with their clear plastic stand. You have to be careful when displaying the doll, also when storing -- no touchie.
Rachel, I really LOVE both Dusty💖💖 and Western Winking Barbie🤠🤠💖💖!! I never owned either Doll, but even though Western Winking Barbie looks like she has an eye condition due to the melting of the chemicals and Dusty has a "oatmeal" like stain, they are both pretty💖💖😊😊. I like Dusty's smile a lot and I really like Skipper like Dolls!! And Western Barbie's outfit, I so agree looks like Elvis's outfit😃😃!!! And I so LOVE Christopher's Barbie performers collection😍😍💖💖💖💖💖!! Also, I really LOVE the locket that Christopher is wearing😊😊💛💛!! Is Christopher's locket a Barbie locket? Besides Dolls and Teddy Bears, I really LOVE locket pendants!! Thank you Rachel and Christopher for sharing Dusty, Western Winking Barbie, and a preview of Christopher's collection of performing Barbies😃😃👍👍!!
I wonder if Dusty was made from the same recipe of material farrah faucette and xher dolls were made from because they too have had melting reactions. it was something called vinyl rot or vinyl decay I believe. from what i read the vinyl was different to mattels recipe and depending on the room tempture over time as these dolls aged the material would weaken and we have the melting issue happening which is not only sad for the doll but her wardrobe as well because it will do what it did on dusty's swim suit in this video absorb into the fabric. i saw a farrah doll that had it really bad her entire stomach and lower area had melted into her outfit.
I didn't have her but I had 80s kissing Barbie (I think I still have her but clothes & stamp were lost). You put this little lips shaped stamp on her lips & push a similar back button but it only moves her head, pushes her chin out more for a kiss motion. Dusty is so cool! I wonder how I never heard of her, I was born in the 70s & my dad worked in the toy business my whole life..
Western Barbie is my favorite she was also my first Barbie. My original had a very rough life but I found one to replace her in her original outfit and hat I had to buy her iconic white boots.
Don't get me wrong but what I find realy touching is the voice of Christopher! Such nice and smooth sound. I think with this magic voice you can convince people to do anything or to make audio books. This is a gift. And of cause Christopher is a wonderful person too. So don t get me wrong ; ) Thanks for the Video.
Hi! Love your videos! Really educational. Thank you for sharing your experiences! Just in case, do you know why is the melting of dolls like Mego dolls? I have a Wonder Woman1976 tha almost loosed an arm due to I removed it to clean the doll, after was almost impossible to put it back as the base on shoulder was too soft (not like the rest of the torso wich is hard). Any quemical reaction? Will keep watching. Thank you again!
Hi there! Thank you for the kind words! Dolls, especially older ones like the Mego dolls, can sometimes have materials that deteriorate over time. For Mego dolls and many similar vintage dolls, the plasticizers used in the manufacturing process can break down, causing the vinyl to become brittle or, in some cases, softer and "melty." There's a possibility that exposure to certain environmental factors like heat, sunlight, or moisture can accelerate the deterioration. The softening you experienced with the arm base of your Wonder Woman doll might be due to this breakdown of plasticizers over the years. To prevent further damage, it's a good idea to store your dolls in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. And always handle vintage dolls with care, as the materials can be more fragile than they appear. Glad you're enjoying the videos and hope this info helps!
@@RachelHoffmanDolls Thank you A LOT for your answer. I really appreciate your words and the time you took to write. Will keep on watching your videos 💟
Ha, I had Dusty and her horse Nugget. I still have her somewhere, and probably Nugget too. Nugget lost a lot of his flocking. Dusty was kind big to ride Nugget with his wobbly legs. I think she has a cowboy hat and a Western saddle somewhere too. I seem to recall she had big flat feet and maybe she had cowboy boots as well.
I found the winking Barbie a few years ago. She is so unusual, kind of creepy, that I had to add her to my collection. I really didn’t know anything about her and now I do!
Nice job Christopher, I enjoyed this and look forward to your full presentation. I love your outfit, hair, and jewelry. Those dolls are a little disturbing lol. I think Dusty's open smile with white lips and mullet makes her more strange, but the concept for an athletic doll is cool. See you all at the virtual convention, can't wait!
One of these days I'm going to figure out a way to replace the melted eyelashes of Western Barbie dolls. I think it's just a matter of 3D printing new pieces and disassembling the mechanism to integrate the new components. Easier said than done. I have to say, if you want the real Western Barbie experience, the outfit looks great on regular SuperStar Barbie dolls, either original or repro.
dont dis dusty i love her i have her and skye theres some pretty lovely make overs of dusty and so much cuter, dusty was under denys fisher toys in the uk he was a reputable scientist i believe ,fun fact barbies friendship that big airoplane was also dustys playset too as it was also big jims airoplane too, dusty also had a friend tie in a little friend called jenny also by denys fisher she was a brownie an english girl adventure and knowledge movement for little girls so jenny had an authentic girls guide outfit
Christopher was fun! Bring him back again on your show.😀
We will!!

Fabulous! Such a great era for Barbie! Dusty is such a snapshot of the 70's.

Growing up, I loved Barbies. I even had Barbie wallpaper in my room. I also had a Dusty doll.
Love this video and can totally relate to how being athletic sounds boring 😆 that's me all day long
I am now a Dusty collector I think!!! 😂😂😂 See you tomorrow, that’s so crazy to say.

I came across my aunts old Dusty doll at my grandmas house as a child in the 90’s. I was absolutely horrified and disgusted.
We will take her!
At least Western Barbie is still glam with that outfit and snatched waist, but Dusty…🥶
Lol! Love this comment. Thanks for watching!!
I love Dusty! She is very easy to find here in the UK x
You’re lucky, I guess! Just kidding, Dusty is so fun!!

The problem is finding one that isn't melting. Some of the outfits though are way more difficult to find in Europe.

How to contact him?
