I use the original saxholder but I have added a short "endless": elastic chord at the backside so that the saxholder stays in place. Works like a dream. No new version saxholder needed!

I purchased the Vandoren harness based on your recommendation. I found it uncomfortable and digging into my shoulder blades. I returned it for a full refund.
I also, notice in most of your videos you wear a different holder. What you wear in your videos is by far the best recommendation... :) Thanks for all your great content!

Sorry that the Vandoren din't work out for you. Did you adjust the Vandoren harness before you returned it? You have to adjust the back portion so that it doesn't pinch your shoulder blades.
I like the Vandoren and the Saxholder Pro

Hello, thank you for your videos, always interesting!
I tried a lot of Harness type for the baritone.
a small question: I play mainly baritone, with some neck pain and shoulder, almost erased now, thanks to the SaxHolder for 2 years!
but the shoulder strap on the left and the ventral axis are too much off - center when you wear the saxophone a little side, as is the case with the baritone. (on the other hand super for the other type of saxophone.)
The disadvantage is that I have not found better now except the Vandoren FNH 100, but under a jacket that gives a look Robocop, with a skeleton exo, not at all aesthetic;) ...
so I would like to have your opinion on the Balam Classic, would it be more comfortable than the SaxHolder, does not it decenter? Is this solid enough and comfortable for the sax bar!
Thank you in advance and good luck!
    Hugo from FRANCE

The new version of the SaxHolder is out and they fixed that problem of the strap moving when seated. I would recommend that you check that out. For me, the Vandoren is the most comfortable, but I understand what you mean about wearing it under a jacket.

@@DonnaSchwartz Thank you for your prompt response!
I bought a few weeks ago the latest version of SAxHolder.
Indeed, there is a good evolution, wider fins on the straps that improve comfort, and a higher position of the base of the cord which improves the balance!
Nevertheless, for the baritone, for me in any case, I do not find it comfortable enough. The support too strong on the left shoulder strap (logical compared to the weight of the baritone saxophone carried a little more to the right than the other sax), but especially it is the ventral axis that shifts far too much to the left, it decentre the constant position of the harness.
      good to you.
      Good evening

I just wish the thing would fit in an alto case. That's my only gripe about it. Yeah, I know alto is light enough for most people to use a regular neck strap, but I have back problems that prevent me from doing that.

    Hi, Again Donna…

Well, with my accident caused injuries to my neck and back, I’m always on the lookout for “THE” neckstrap…

I can’t use a harness for 2 reasons: #1, I like the freedom to move my horn when I play and I feel quite a restriction of movement with a harness. #2. I have a Pacemaker and a lot of regular straps, as well as harnesses, rub that area.

First of all, My MAIN TIP for using either the saxHolder OR Balam is to have SOMEONE ELSE adjust the backside for you…
I have the first saxHolder and, at NAMM, had the originator of it adjust it for me… and never had a problem with slipping off.

And when I was in Boston, Jack was nice enough to adjust the Balam.

When I saw BSS talk about the Balam, I KNEW it had to be my answer… and it was… except…

It’s nice that they put a bit of clear hose on the hook… BUT, it tends to slip and allow metal-to-metal… the reason I don’t use metal hooks…

I also couldn’t get it to work on all three of my saxes… Soprano, Alto, and Tenor.

My solution was to get a hook and line from Jazzlab and modify the Balam…

I kept the Balam’s spreader (which you need) and added the saxHolder line and hook (which I think is the BEST hook out there) and it now works with all my saxes.

The other thing I added was foam at the ends of the Aluminum bar that you pointed out…

Both the Balam and saxHolder fit in the bell of my Tenor… however, neither will fit the Alto…

For myself, both the saxHolder AND Balam are the way to go… to ease back and neck strain…

Great video - thanks for these reviews! One question though - in 50+ years of playing I have never had a sax fall off a hook so I don't get the fascination with "really secure" hooks. They seem like a nuisance for doublers like me who pick up and put down the horn a lot.

Do you have the Pro version? I think that may be better for you because the hook in the front is extended out a little more, keeping the horn more off your body. I'll do a review of this one in a month. Contact JazzLab and tell them your situation.
