I lived in Brisbane for 15 years. It is the best large city I ever lived in or visited. I have been to the US. I prefer here. Free medical, four weeks paid holidays for everyone, long maternity and paternity leave (paid). Of course nowhere is perfect, but Queensland in some places is. 😃

Like many Brits who came to Australia with the help of assisted passage, we say it was the best thing we could have done. I do enjoy that Australia, more than any other country I know, ensures you have time out of work hours to live life.

    I'm in the capital, Canberra.
I subscribed to That Johnston Life just to see how Ross and his family progressed in their journey moving to this country and what they thought of it once they got here. I'm glad they like the place, because I feel blessed living here. I *keep* watching because Ross is hilarious and enthusiastic, although because of Covid he doesn't know the rest of the place yet - it's as big as the contiguous US and very diverse, so where I live is nothing like Brisbane: they get tropical storms in Summer, we occasionally get snow in Winter.
The whole video is not a plug for the migration company: I suspect they approached him after seeing his content and he thought "why not?"🙂
    PS: enjoy Malaysia.

I've noticed that one of the main differences between working in America vs. Australia that does not get mentioned is in Australia we have Leave Loading.
Leave loading is an extra payment that some workers are entitled to receive from their employer while on annual leave, on top of their base rate of pay. Leave loading acts as a top-up to your standard base pay, and is intended to compensate workers for extra expenses incurred during leave.

I’m an Aussie from Melbourne and yes we love our coffee. Coffee dictates which cafe we go to. The food is important too, but coffee and knowing your barista is important. It doesn’t matter where you go in Melbourne and in fact all of Victoria you’ll find great coffee. Usually if it’s a busy cafe, it has excellent coffee. Some people wait 15 - 20 minutes for a coffee.

During World War Two, when a huge proportion of the Australian workforce was in the army and labour was scarce, Commonwealth forces took about 250,000 Italians prisoner in East Africa. A bunch of them were shipped to POW camps in Australia, where, owing to labour shortages, a lot of them were let out to do non-war work. In 1945 they were all repatriated to Italy, where most of them saved up a fare as fast as they could and came back. Not really having liked tea very much, they brought espresso machines with them, and quite a lot opened cafés. It took a while to catch on, but since about 1980 Australia has had a coffee culture based on Italian-style coffee, and since 2000-odd Australia has been second only to Italy in the quality of the coffee in the general run of neighbourhood coffee shops.

Migration Agents help with the processing of the paperwork for a visa. Just make sure to choose one that is registered with MARA (Migration Agents Registration Authority). If you go to the Migration Institute of Australia (MIA), they have a database of registered agents. You can search according to where you are (yes, there are some MARA agents located overseas), if you need one who speaks a specific language etc. The MIA is the peak body for Registered Migration Agents. They lobby the government on legislation relating yo migration, as well as disseminating the information to members & running professional development for agents.

We Aussies need to learn to really appreciate what we have. I have to say, I have never met an American who moved here short term who ever went "home", and I have known a number. Once you are here that tends to be it. To the point where even some who went back temporarily always made sure to be here for their kids to be born Aussies (with Australian partners). I think even Aussies need to leave or at least travel to fully understand we are still the "lucky country". Also I am first generation Australian, my parents came with their parents as young adults. They never felt the need to call any other place home.

Bald Hills is one of the most Northern Suburbs of the City of Brisbane (the State Capital, largest city in the State and top 5 largest cities in the country), it's right on the train line, less than half an hour to the CBD, and a bit over to get to South Brisbane by train, with clear roads 15-20 minutes to most central city parts north of the river (but the roads are never clear so give your self about an hour to account for traffic) but it will cost you more to park than a car load of adults train fairs.

Its crap about the average annual income its more like $50,000-$70,000 unless you are an executive in a large company. Although it may be slightly higher in Queensland and Northern Territory as their wages are a bit higher to the rest of the country.

    • @steelcrown7130
      @steelcrown7130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes I thought that was a bit odd too, but it isn't to do with executives or large companies: the Australian Bureau of Statistics figure for 2021 is about $68,000 if you include part-time workers. For those on a full-time 38-hour week, the average figure really is above $90,000.

Obviously the average wage is affected a lot by the higher wages 😂. The median wage is around 52,000. I’d even be happy to get that 😜

@@steelcrown7130 its really bad here at present the entire housing market has gone nuts. A house sold accross the road from me recently in an average suburb for $430,000 and its not flash very basic and very small. Rents are astonomical too everything went up $50 a week last year and going up another $50 a week this year. Just ridiculous!

most of these types of posts are in brisbane for some reason. i've lived in QLD but at a higher altitude in toowoomba so the weather was similar to my home in perth. brisbane is a humid prick of a place, i dont think you get used to it so much as just dealing with it. worked in the NT for awhile which is much the same but the pub culture makes up for it.

My mum is from the UK and it’s nice to get some insight why my grandparents immigrated so long ago although they were 10 pound tourists. Look that up 🤗

As an Aussie I have seen some of these videos. I have a few points to make:
    1. Most people immigrate to either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. These cities are experiencing stress with rising home prices and expanding urban and suburban areas. Even coastal areas away from the major cities but close to inter-urban transport have skyrocketing prices.
    2. The ethnic makeup is evolving. It is not a bad thing as it is expanding our culture in food and our lives generally, many people still remember when things like the Monty Python Bruce's skit was a literal documentary. The old Australia is still there and the racism and sexism is often exploited by politicians for votes.
    3. People don't realise how much introduced animals have damaged the environment. From rabbit plagues, mouse plagues, foxes, horses, cane toads, wild feral cats and dogs have decimated wildlife and destroyed the land. Where I live in western Sydney you will see wild birds aplenty, but you are more likely see a fox than a possum or koala.
    4. Australia is still great for things like heath care, education and public services, but we are in a transition period where privatisation is proving probmatic but state ownership of services is not popular due to citizens being trained to expect lower taxes.
Australia Australia Australia we love you AMEN! *Crack tube*

What the Pommy bloke never mentioned was - our far better Work/Life balance. Just about every single one of us that works full-time - get a minimum of 4 weeks paid vacation PLUS 17% 'Leave Loading' extra pay on top of our regular wages for those 4 weeks. Depends on your particular Award/Employment Contract, but for nearly everyone it's 4weeks. Some lucky buggers can get 6 to 8 - again it's industry/job dependant. We also have Paid Sick Leave, again industry dependant by usually around 9 days per year - and for some of us, like me, it accumulates ... I have about 9 weeks of Sick Leave up my sleeve). Many industries, particularly Government jobs, will have 'flexi-days' ie one extra paid day off per month. We also have Long Service Leave, which is around 3 months PAID LEAVE once you have worked at your employed for 12 years, but its "Pro-Rata' from 7 years onwards (so you can take smaller chunks of Leave earlier). And yes - that is EXTRA LEAVE on top of Annual Leave. Women are also entitled to Maternity Leave (and again - depending on your industry/contract you can be eligible for quite a number of weeks at full pay after the childbirth, plus up to 18 months unpaid) and their jobs held for their return up to 18 months or so later. Men can now get 2 weeks (I think it is from memory) Paid Paternity Leave so they can spend those precious few early weeks at home with the new child. And then on top of that, there are about 16 odd Paid Publicly Holidays (the number varies according to which state you are in but we are all roughly the same).
So we get all this extra free time to enjoy all those beaches, National Parks, Fishing, watching Footy, BBQing and Beers with mates etc or, if my missus had her way - me mowing, painting and cleaning shit up around the place ...

My work has taken me all over this country and by far the best place to be is up north , The major cities are crowded and dirty full of inconsiderate arrogant people that couldn't care less about the person beside them . If you want to meet good friendly people that would give you the clothes off their back to help you travel through the small coastal and country towns , The scenery is fantastic and the people are too much better quality of life and cleaner . And our average wage is about $23/hour much less than 90k/year that Brit stated .👌

Many people live outside the main cities (approx 100km) and commute via trains

And, you're using too much of the front of you mouth for the accent ( As the typical American accent is very frontal). A typical Aussie accent speaks from that back of the throat and uses the nasal cavity( Almost speaking though your nose). E.g when we say oh yeah going in to a higher pitch, its in the back of the throat near the nose.
