    Honestly, I am autistic, so I tend to struggle with the idea that people genuinely think in completely different ways than I do. I always thought that they were just being hyperbolic and overtly raunchy as a sort of in-joke among all men.
    Whenever I see someone attractive, to me it's more of a "goddamn, that person looks really comfy. I want to spend time around that person - I bet they're great at hugs too".

    I came out as panromantic asexual to my grandma casually while we were at the zoo, and as I was explaining it to her she got really excited and said "It has a name?! That's totally me!" • @ameliaredman4564
    @ameliaredman4564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +816

    the one with the grandma realizing she's ace really spoke to me. for the longest time, I thought that I *couldn't* be ace because I felt like I didn't belong. I never had the definitive thought that I was broken, but I did really vibe with the song "Somebody to Love" by Queen. I thought that I *needed* someone to love because they would be my "other half" and that I was just too young and didn't know that much about myself, and then I realized that, 1) romantic and sexual attraction aren't the same thing, 2) It's never too young to know yourself, and 3) I don't need an "other half" because I am a whole person on my own and no one can change that. I don't need somebody to love that isn't myself because I am the only one who will know that, and I'm not just another straight teenager trying to be a special snowflake. Anybod who says otherwise can meet the wrong end of a sword.

Eventually I just realized that doesn't seem like an comprehensive explanation, since I didn't even feel like I missed anything, started to look up "lack of interest" online and finally found AVEN. I was 36 when I finally realized that I am ace. It was a truly freeing moment when I finally understood what I have been feeling my whole life. I look back and think that I really should have known sooner, but back then I didn't understand what asexuality was. And now everything makes so much more sense. I really envy this new generation of kids who get to learn about all the different sexual and romantic orientations at such a young age. When I was a teenager, you were either straight, gay, or bi. Not everyone fits into those boxes. The reason why more teens are coming out as ace now than ever before isn't because it's some kind of trendy new fad. It's because the information is available and accessible now more than it ever has been before.

    Questioning whether asexuals are or are not lgbt is a waste of everyones time. Reducing the lgbt+ experience to sex and sex /alone/ is incredibly gross. You don't get it? That's fine. I didn't understand my own gender for 21 years. It takes very little effort to do your research instead of being cruel to people who need your help. Lashing out against asexuals because you don't understand and feel like they don't belong makes you no better than homophobes and transphobes who mock gay or trans people because they don't understand and don't want to learn.

      Not to mention the hypocritical phrases asexuals get from within the community like "your sexuality isn't a real thing" "you haven't met the right person yet/you're not old enough to know" "your sexuality doesn't make you special" etc. And it gets more than just insults saying aces arent oppressed so they don't deserve to be in the community. The oppression Olympics gotta stop. It is such a weird thing to say to someone who also had to struggle with their identity and needed a community to feel less alone about it..
      I also don't get why people assume ace people don't have any issues when it takes 10 mins of research to find that ace people deal with "corrective" r*pe and conversion therapy and the "debate" of if asexuality is real or a mental disorder. Which sounds pretty similar to other queer experiences to me..

Netflix and..."chill"... ;) means: Come on over to my house so we can bang while the TV happens to be on in the background.
      What if I legit just want to watch a cool show with someone without that also meaning: of course your clothes are also going to come off? We need a phrase that actually means "watch TV and hang out", but with cooler, slangier words. :P

    Almost all teenagers want to feel special, that’s why most of them jump into relationships (at least that’s how it seems to me) but identifying as ace isn’t that same thing. looking for good friends who care about you, looking for fun things to do, and enjoying life are all things that asexual people do to feel special, just like everyone else. They just don’t usually have a sexual (and/or romantic in the case of aromantic people) on the list of things that make them feel special

    This comment is due to a video I just watched from a few months ago, but I wanted to put it here to increase the chance of it being said. You said that you might not have much experience to offer because you are just a straight guy reading memes on the internet, but that doesn't matter. I am gay and when I first came out, there wasn't a great response, but things have gotten better. Just because you have not been through it, that does not mean that you have not had your own experiences, good and bad, that can still be used as teaching moments or experiences for you to use to help others. Everyone has their own experiences and even if they are not the same, they are still valid and can still be used to further understanding of each other and to possibly give you even some sort of insight into what others might be going through.
