  • In this video, I will share some tips and tricks for editing high dynamic range images in Lightroom to hopefully give you some ideas for your own workflow. I will edit a photo I took of an RAF A400M at Birmingham Airport in July 2020.
    Please comment with feedback about the video or with questions relating to the tips I have described. Also follow me on Instagram @anthony_fogarty_aviation

    Glad to see someone else who uses the Adobe Landscape profile on airplane photos. I found it gives me a head start on recovering the shadow and highlights details. It does add a bit of a color shift, which isn't so noticeable on this black airplane but whites can turn a little cyan with it. Interesting use of dehaze. If you preprocess with DxO PureRaw or Lightroom's Enhance, noise should be almost a non-issue.

    I usually start with the tone curve just to find a good basis for editing. I never thought about optimizing the "dehaze" feature before, just once in a while. Thanks for the advice!

      @Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries. I am less accurate with the tone curve personally, but it can yield some fantastic results!

    very informative video, which is exactly what i have been trying to find for so long. most of the editing tutorials for aviation photography out there are 40+ minutes, which isnt easy to sit through. this was very helpful and quick thank you!

    I wish you could move the panels up
    or down within LR, such as the Lens Correction panel. Thanks for the great tips.

    great. but cant find the "Range Mask: Luminance" on my current LR13 version. but probably due to the new masking tools (select subject), i dont need that "range mask luminace feature" anymore, as the subject will be masked automatically.
    would love to see a similar edit of a picture when there is a background to the aircraft or it the aircraft is on the ground with a runway/taxiway/grass in the background. thanks

    Interesting to watch an aviation photo development tutorial.
    I think from memory, the Adobe landscape colour profile tends to favour the blues and the greens and there's none of that in your picture. Perhaps some mention could have been made to the histogram in that it was underexposed bu about a stop due to it being a sky-shot and the cameras metering exposed for the brighter sky at the expense of the Atlas.
    Still I enjoyed watching your video.

    Cracking video pal. I've always wondered how you do your edits. I use tge other version of light room instead of classic. Do you think classic is better as most photographers seem use it?

    • @Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation
      @Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks very much! I think it comes down to personal preference really, all the versions have mostly similar functionality, I am just most comfortable with classic.

    Just caught this video. Had never thought of adding (negative) dehaze and then removing it (Positive) dehaze. Thanks for sharing your workflow. IN the 2 years since you posted this video, has your workflow changed?

    • @Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation
      @Anthony_Fogarty_Aviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much. Yes slightly, I still make use of many of the techniques I described in this video. However, the upgraded selection tool suite in LR and the amazing Denoise feature have shortened my workflow considerably.

      It will work on JPEG’s but to a lesser extent as the JPEG won’t hold as much information.
