Despite failing to qualify for Italia ‘90 by a solitary point, the Strike Squad will forever be the most loved national team outfit of all time…..That qualifying campaign, theme songs and national unity during such,is still unmatched to this day….Such was the euphoria at the time, the government of the day granted us a public holiday in advance, prior to the final match-day as all were confident that there was no way we couldn’t qualify….We all know now the eventual outcome, but we were still happy to part of a historic sporting and social time in our existence as a nation. What a time to have been alive…❤😢
Give thanks for this song, and this moment! Easily the closest we came to the World Cup before Germany, and after the fiasco in Haiti years before, which my father told me about. But this was the first song to bring us together on the road, the journey to Italy 1990, and it coined for posterity a numbers of expressions we ended up using and had been using before; bois!, StrikeSquad, KaiSocaSoccer! Give thanks to Lancelot Layne, and the Strike Squad for this beautiful bitter-SWEET moment in Trinidad and Tobago's history
Great song that recorded a bit of Trinbago's sporting history! Thank you Lancelot Lane... I am always proud our Strike Squad! Good am I but great are we!
I believe Lancelot Layne recorded "Strike Squad" in 1989 and also did this music video which was very popular on local T&T television during our 1990 World Cup Qualification "Road to Italy" campaign.
I remember seeing this many many years ago. It was a big thing. As it played, I started to sing along. Nice memories of a simpler, more wholesome time in TnT. Thanks Desi, keep'em coming ;-)
I still remember the unity and passion of those days.. We needed a single point against the USA to qualify for italia90. I still recall the agony as USA scored 'that goal'. We got our revenge years later. And we eventually qualified for the world Cup. But I wonder what would haVe happened to our beautiful country if we had got that point.

Wow those children all grown up now. I was in primary school
I had literally forgotten all about this. Good times.
2017 we finally got revenge on USA soccer team by taking them out of the world cup.

I wonder to. We might had more unity today
I think our unity died after 1990
