I never knew vending machine repair skills translated so well to airplane mechanic. Very impressive! This whole time I've been waiting for you to roll it out of the hanger, start it up and say that the next step is to get a pilot's license. I been subbed to your channel for your sense of humour, it’s just as warped as my own. This series was a fascinating, I learnt a lot, not that I’ll ever get a plane, I checked to see how much these old girls are 😮 I thought having a boat was expensive…. Keep up the content, it’s very entertaining

Nice landing! And I gained a lot of respect for plane mechanics - if we were as careful with cars, they would never get out of the garage. But then cars can't fall on you. Usually.
Nobody is more careful working on a plane than the guy who puts his butt in there! I've had trouble with planes a few times before, I didn't like it!

I'm pretty serious about the landings and takeoffs we keep a quiet cockpit during those times. The rest of the flight I just wing it.

Retired 747 Cargo Pilot here and you got her pretty high. Did you show her how to Pee on the Wing and air dry it while enroute. That is why flight suits have zippers all the way down. But you can store the Plane in your Bunker for a fast get away if need be. Don't forget the Coke Machine. Butt Butt Butt!!
You flew a small city around! That's amazing. We drink alot of water and have to pee alot so we stop alot along any trip! I tried a bottle a few times, DONT DO THAT IN TURBULENCE!
@@HerbOMatic Harbor Freight sells all types of funnels and clear tubing you can install a Pee Drain front and rear and have it extend 3" out the bottom of the aircraft and at 120 knots it will have suction. BTDT.

Was surprised to see how quickly you retracked the gear! Amazing to see it finally fly again, great work and love your videos!
She climbs way better with the gear up (altitude is safety) and it comes down in 3 seconds if I should need it again!
@@HerbOMaticIt's cool that a plane that size has retractable gear. It just looks really neat on takeoff when those wheels shoot into the fuselage.
All during the build I was wondering what that weird dangling piece of metal was under the cabin, not even thinking that it was for landing gear. Ancient upholstery or not, it's a REALLY cool plane, and it looks like you've done her up right.

I’ve wrenched on a lot of different machines in my 55yrs. Driving crap box cars as a kid and working on a few farms you had to learn how to wrench. Never a plane though. Very entertaining and informative. Question is now Herb. Do you bug out in the Moonie, or lay low in the bomb shelter if things go South?
The plane stuff is exactly like cars, except you don't guess any torques and you triple check everything! The hardware is tough as nails too. This got me thinking if the mooney would fly after an EMP event. I'll bet it would None of it's integrated circuits are essential for flight.

One of my hobbies, other than ripping off old ladies skin tags while waiting in line at the grocery store is collecting used catheters so if you ever need to borrow one or two let me know.
I find the used ones tend to slip in a little easier. We call skin tags "screamin snacks" around here.

In all honesty, I guessed "about $400" for the intake boot. Because that's pretty much the base price of anything aircraft-related, and it didn't look like much, so "$400". Might as well have been a specialty screw, or a bit of hosing - same price.
Also, your Mooney is precisely as old as my wife. Which makes me feel "high"... 😋
She may be old but she's still a bunch of fun (I'm talking about my plane, don't come fighting me!). Yeah they are crazy with the planes, I think $600 is the new base price starting this year!

The camera is just a buddy in the hangar and I enjoy laughing. It's pretty easy! Mechanical things have always been my hobby, so vending and planes were natural paths. Thanks for the love Chris, it makes it worth the numb butt from editing the videos!

Nice work. I'm surprised that the FAA didn't get more mentions (Through gritted teeth, with a snarl and a spit whenever their acronym passes your lips). From what I've heard, they like to make owner/pilot/aero mechanic folk jump through pointless burning hoops when recommissioning an old plane like this. My assumption is that they create intrusive legislation purely to validate charging money to inspect and enforce it. I'm all for air safety but the FAA's and CAA's of this world just seem to meddle with pointless details, while not really doing anything to curb the bigger problems in aviation (Like Boeing's quality control apparently).

My father bought a 67 Citabria floatplane. We restored it, and I learned to fly before I learned to drive.
The nearly immediate gear-up threw me, but you had trust that things would go well. And they did.
How the hell did you mount a camera to the wing so it wouldn't come off?
I'm going to have to go back and see the whole story behind this.
I don't fly anymore, it's too expensive and I already have too many expensive hobbies.

I used to want to be a pilot so bad. Started lessons and all. Then, I got diagnosed with narcolepsy, and I thought, "I should not be piloting."
That's a bummer, you could fly with a pilot and you could do all the phases of flight with them shadowing you on the controls. They would be the official Pilot in Command but you would be legal. If you took an impromptu snooze, they could take-over.
So basically, you waited until you didn't need the rags in the holes, lubed it up, inserted your pipe and took in for a ride, then you ate out and went down on it after a second ride.. then opened it up and she bent over so you could get out of it... 😵💫
But I paid for breakfast so all of that was ok.

Under the supervision of one, I'm building hours of experience to get my license. I don't let anyone work on my bird I've had 4 different mechanics goof it up in DANGEROUS ways.

Aviation stuff you have the times it by 10 if you think something's going to be $50 is going to be more like $500 have you saw that video of the guy in Congress holding a bag of Aviation washers and they cost $90,000
I saw that, the price of that bag in congress is called money laundering. They do it with defense contracts, war on homeless, studies, etc etc. Like when it costs 3 million to build a bathroom. Some of that 90k finds its way into pockets of friends for sure! The mission is to find clever ways to transfer wealth from the schmucks to the connected.
