I had a 37' Springer and a 33' butty and when they couldn't be breasted-up and I was towing with crossed straps, I was amazed by how the butty, usually, very obediently followed the motor boat. Even at right angle turns like into the Paddington Arm at Bull's Bridge or the Hertford Union, off the Regent's Canal, for example.
