Thanks for this video, just had my tailgate stolen from in front of my house. I didn't know how easy it was to steal it, never had this happen.

Mine just got stolen 2 days ago at Costco. Their security cameras did capture it. Got vehicle description and plates. They said it was fast , just seconds and gone Made report with Sheriff department but I won’t hold my breath they do anything.

Most videos show removing the black tab before installing. I have a 2021 limited. Do I need to pull it out or leave it in? Thanks

I didn't even think to do that.. Believe it or not I traded it in about 2 weeks ago for a different truck! I needed something that was 4wd and a little more cab room
Other videos show pulling the black plastic pin out. Does it need to be removed?
I looked at my 2021 limited but was sure if it was plastic or metal.

Well this install is wrong. The way it’s done here you only have it locked on the plastic tab. You need to break the black plastic tab out and let the grooves channel sit on the V shaped part of the tailgate. Then you can lock the tab into the metal hole where the black plastic tab was.
Yes how true I just installed one on my 2023 and initially couldn't push it in and was wondering where it was going to latch till I watched another video where they removed that plastic nub with needle nose pliers so the locking pin has a place to fit in not removing that plastic piece you can just lift the lock out
